Well if they where fitted on arrival, how do you explain the 8 month delay in 5 serial numbers. ie 10300 in Jan 74 and 10305 in May 73? There was a suggestion that some 240's where part of a shipment that nearly made it to the UK, but had to turn around and be unloaded in OZ. The rumour was largely un-substantiated, however, this sequence of serials is becoming compelling evidence that this did occur.

Zspecialties Alternator?????
105 and a direct swap.... some warning bells here, I suspect that the alternator may be rated at 105, however withour changing the regulator you won't be getting any more amps than you already have. Really the best advice is if you want a direct swap without a diode etc, then find a 260 that's in bits and use the altenator from that.

Now for something also interesting, after I looked at the serials, I thought to myself that it must be close to my '73, sure enough mine is 103305, just about a brother... But complianced May 73... go figure.....

Yes, the compliance plate indicates that it is indeed a '73 zed. Still, it is interesting as it must be one of the last 240's manufactured.

Beeper Switch? from Kats's thread.
I've never seen it. I had the dash out of the 260 and there definatly was no buzzer to be seen. The 240 doen't have one and the other 260 I had from new wasn't supplied with it either. [strange as it was loaded with just about anything the dealer could load it with]!

Beeper Switch? from Kats's thread.
Ah! more documented region specific accessories. Wonder if it was a dealer option in Oz? MOM

Beeper Switch? from Kats's thread.
OK, So all the US spec S30 came with a beeper that let you know that you had left the key in, correct? MOM

Beeper Switch? from Kats's thread.
Never seen this! Must be unique to HLS 30...as the Wiring Dia. for HS30 doesn't support this either. MOM

Beeper Switch? from Kats's thread.
I noticed this comment in Kats's Z Restoration Thread, not wanting to hijack the thread I'm starting a new one and wondered exactly what it is/was? 5.Steering lock mechanism/the one has currently available style,it's cylinder is relatively fat and a beeper switch is on the entrance of a key,but the other has early style which got narrower cylinder and a beeper switch is in the middle, right hand side.Do the judges mind it? I can't say I've seen this on any HS30 models. Was it unique to HLS30 models? MOM

Way of the Future?
Looking at the options available at this point in time, a drop in change over is the L28 Diesel. Hadn't considered a bolt up like this at all. Guess, I'll have to transfer over to hybrid z now for the follow up! Any idea what mpg, kpl [l/100km] I ;'d be getting? MOM

Oh well at least its renewable energy! Gas here is LPG, very cheap and plenty of it for the next 100! I believe there is an LPG conversion available that has a donut shaped tank that drops into the spare tyre well. However, sooner or later the price will rise as well. Diesel motors can run on just about anything but water, but I haven't heard of a Diesel conversion. Some of these euro diesel's claim up to 90 kpl. Toyota has released a hybrid car here which is attracting much interest, dealers are back to to good ol' days of a 4 month wait, so utilising hybrid technologly may not be to far distant. MOM

Way of the Future?
This thread is dedicated to all Prophets, Soothsayers and Crystal Ballers. I'm sure many have noticed the rise in Oil Prices, and the consequent flow on in petrol prices. In the short term we will all learn to live with this and adjust accordingly, however, it is short sighted and does not address where we will be with our cars in let's say 20 years. How do others see the situation? Is it feasible to convert to gas? How about some type of diesel or electric or a hybrid or should we consider selling up now while we have a chance? Personally, I would love to see some type of hybrid conversion available, realising that the obvious loss of performance, whilst still having the classic "Z" styling is going to be a trade off. Remember that the day of $10 per litre is getting closer. Regards The resident Prophet of Doom MOM

You're lucky to have a choice! Use the ones in the front, after you do an overhaul. Better to do it now before you mount them and find not servicable. The " clunk" is easier to fix, maybe you may like to start your zed learning experiance there? Good luck and don't forget to use the search fuction on this site. MOM

What is z difference between:
You can change/swap over the vaccuum advance. This difference between the 2 is actually in the springs, these are the items that determine your advance. As long as you change them over your advance should be the same. MOM

Check if they have a "flat top" or "round top". Round top are considered better as you can adjust the mixture, flat tops are factory preset. Many people on this list bag flat tops, however several list contributors like myself have serviced them and found them more than satisfactory in normal conditions. In either case it would be wise to obtain a "kit" and overhaul them. MOM

HI Simmo, Welcome to the wonderful world of zed's! You haven't mentioned the type of SU's you have, you are definately on the right track in dumping the single down draught that it has. This usually came about by dealers/mechanics who didn't know anything about Su's and generally replaced them with a 280C [Cedric] carb. I can't help you with any Sydney based info, however there are a lot of Sydnesiders on the board and I'm sure thay will make themselves known. MOM
