Tacho suddebly quit?
If you ever find out what the problem was, let us know as I have the same problem in the 77. My guess has been a dry joint or similar in the tach itself as a broken wire to the tacho would dis-able the ignition circuit. I've lived without a tach for 3 years now, so I can wait a little longer... MOM

What brand plug are you using? MOM

Puzzling misfire
My bet would be either as Alan suggested, mixture or valve seals. If clean or new plugs work well, then the electrical system isn't the problem. Look further a field as to why they are fouling? Good luck.. MOM

HybridZ.org left me confused :S
440K notes a problem that you may well take notice of. It's all to easy to swap and change, however if you are considering competition, then a re-think may be in order as to which category your vehicle may find it's self in. In the worst case scenario, you may find yourself unable to compete in ANY competition as there isn't a class/category for the vehicle. Best advice is to join a car club and ask the eligibilty committee if what you intend to change is permitted. MOM

Front Door Seal
That particular bit of rubber, Scotts won't have. They specialize in selling rubber mouldings by the metre or part there of. Try your local Nissan dealer as it would only be available in Aus as a OEM part. PS keep us updated with your search, if you do find a source let us all now... MOM

Driving Light Mounts ~ Safari style
Guus, These results are from the 1973 Australian Rally Championship. Car details are vague, they may/maynot be works cars. Although, I would suspect they may be as in 1974, there was only 1 240 entered and none in '72. Apparently there are photos. Luckily, the Kilfe, I now. I only need to track him down, so I have another mission in life... Round One Uniroyal Southern 500, SA Date: March 10-15 6 *F Kilfoyle *M Osborne *Datsun 240Z Round Three Bunbury Curran Date: April 14-15 3 *F Kilfoyle *M Osborne *Datsun 240Z Round Five Warana Rally* Date: September 22-23 5 *B Evans *B Lake *Datsun 240Z The Southern Cross and Dulux are proving a little more difficult as International Rallies tended not be be as well documented. Gas drips out of right side by above tire
There is no argument, don't now where you got that idea from. I only mentioned that... Quote: I have seen others in Australia post about gas spilling as they accelerate Can't recall those posts? I just find it odd that the fuel system plumbing was different in both cases. But then again there have been so many differences between markets that I should not act so surprised! MOM

Alan & Guss, I have been in touch with the Director of the Dulux, he has confirmed that he has further information, however is interstate until next week and is un-able to give us results. The 72 Dulux as far as I have been able to determine was run in the Albury area. Further information concerning Bob Watson's car is that it may have also been driven in the "Golden Alpine" in 73. I'm awaiting a photo, which hopefully will have the missing numbers... Mike- Home-market S30 Factory Options
Not seeing the trees because of the forest! Up to 73... RHD Euro: Passing switch. RHD JDM: Passing Switch. RHD Aust: No Passing. LHD US: No Passing. Anyone have any other markets to add? MOM- Home-market S30 Factory Options
Alan, I'm not to clear on whether you believe the passing light was standard or an option in RHD cars? My 73 does not have this feature, however the 77 does... In fact the 73 is pretty bone dry with no heated back hatch or hazard lights. Mike- Driving Light Mounts ~ Safari style
No, however you have asked and I will seek... Incidently, Guus, make a note of the 72 result Alan has posted as I didn't see 72 in your Z-point site... I don't suppose you have any further history of the car in question as it doesn't appear to have returned to Aus. in 73? If it did it may have been a recce car? MIke Mike- Amco accessories
The things you learn from this site amaze me... I had one of those switches in the dash of the 73, removed it because i thought it wasn't original. Can't wait to get home and have a look around. FWIW, I don't seem to remember a second hole in the dash, is it possible that there where different dashes? MOM- Driving Light Mounts ~ Safari style
Guus/Alan, I need more info, Who, what, where?- 1972 Southern Cross Rally
Bob is aware that Tony Fall is still alive... I copied the thread over from the Racing thread that was getting enormous before we all decided to use different threads. I gather Bob has opened a can of "worms" with 851? I had hoped to have seen him last night, however he is still occupied with the Old BP Results, perhaps next week... Mike- Driving Light Mounts ~ Safari style
Great work, Now I have a car to historically replicate! Mike- choke handle for 72!
For a cheap, quick fix, obtain a piece of wood dowel, same length as lever, drill hole into one end and jam it onto the metal lever. Use your imagination and customise it.... MOM- 1972 Southern Cross Rally
Follow on from previous post... I am happy do do anything to help. I can't recall exactly what I told you last time, but the car was used in the Monte Carlo Rally in 1973, which was the year I drove it in the 'Cross. I was told at the time it had light weight body panels, and it had a front windscreen with de - icing elements in the glass.I have just looked at a photo of the car (the only one I have) and the registration plate is riveted to the RH front of the bonnet. The photo is not very clear, but the numbers 851 are visible on the plate along with some other indistinguishable letters / figures. Bob Needless to say, I will be getting a copy of the said photo... MOM- 1972 Southern Cross Rally
I have recieved some new information from Bob Watson on the 73' SC. I have broken this post into 2 threads. The first is Bob's original post to me, which is buried somewhere in the Rally Anyone Thread. The second is his recent reply to me, it adds a little information on Bob's car which was previously unknown! Mike, Jeff Beaumont and I were part of the official factory "Datsun" team (before they changed to "Nissan") in the 1973 Southern Cross Rally. The other team members were the late Tony Fall / Steve Halloran, Shekhar Mehta / Roger Bonhomme, all in 240Zs, and Frank Kilfoyle/ Mike Osborne (I think) in a 180BSSS. Mehta had won the East African Safari that year. Bruce Wilkinson ran the team . My car had been previously run in the Monte Carlo Rally that year. It was left hand drive, had heaps of power and a lot of traction at the rear, so it was very prone to understeer, which made it very hard to drive. Tony Fall took me for a drive during a testing session in the Kinglake forest, and his technique was to constantly weave the car so that it was always in a slight oversteer attritude, even on the straights. His comment was "if the bastard understeers, your'e dead". The rally was one of the wettest Southern Crosses ever - only nine or ten cars finished the course. Tony Fall hated driving the Z in the wet, and more or less indicted that the sooner he retired the better. Sure enough he rolled near the end of the first night, and was last seen disappearing into a caravan with an attractive girl. The rest of the team soldiered on, but Andrew Cowan inevitably won in a Mitsubishi Lancer (one of his 5 Sothern Cross wins). . Kilfoyle finished seventh, I think we were ninth and only one other car finished behind us. Conditions were atrocious, and I must say it was one of the scariest and most difficult drives of my career, wrestling with a very powerful left hand drive factory car in pouring rain and slippery mud. I have some photos of the car, but there was so much mud around that the number plates were probably unreadable. I will check. I know the plates had Japanese registration. Nissan finally won the Southern Cross in 1977, Rauno Aaltonen was first, Harry Kallstrom was second (both in twin cam 710s) and I finished third with Peter Godden in a Gerry Ball single cam 710. Bob.- Home-market S30 Factory Options
I just broke my rule... I suspect unless you have the moderator ability to dis-entangle the thread into separate topics, now before it gets to big with other replies then we will be wading through a mire... MOM- Home-market S30 Factory Options
I thought we were discussing "parking lights" not "passing lights", doh. I couldn't understand why the DM would have a seperate swich... Now I can place it all. The button on the end only had a white "dot" on the end... MOM- Home-market S30 Factory Options
It would make more sense to only discuss 1 accessory per thread, else it will become a dog's breakfast... MOM- Are all ball joints created equal?
I have seen some Japanese "joints" these would probably be the same as Nissan had used, so would be acceptable. Have you priced the OEM's? Please post the prices of both if possible. TIA MOM- Home-market S30 Factory Options
