Original seatbelts for 1970
The magnet may have been a PO modification as all that I have seen just clip together. Just out of interest the belts in my 77 are retractable with a push release on the side. [still no button]. The Kangol belts where most probably a modification of there lap belts, as to all intents and purpose's there is little difference in design apart from these being a 3 point pount against a lap of 2. I also seem to remember that around that time ADR [Australian Design Rules] where very primative and mostly none existant. Set belt laws were poiliced on a State by State basis and for a long time belts were not required by law in many states, so the possibility of these cars being inported without belts possibly exists. Interesting discussion, maybe Alan know more? MOM

Original seatbelts for 1970
The belts is my 73 are Kangol. Non retracting, with a latch type closure ie not push button. The center may have had an adhesive logo at some stage.

71 HS30- in Melbourne Australia
Well, this is absolutley brilliant. Now an actual number imported has been posted. How accurate do you think this data is? Is the source reliable? I would probably agree with the 600, I guess we will never now exactely, however as every week passes one more probably bits the dust [rust]!

GRM 240Z vs 350Z comparo
Personally, I would rather have a recognised Marque car any day!

71 HS30- in Melbourne Australia
I would guess that you may have had a 10% response. That would mean approximately 1000 cars left out there? Does anyone have any numbers on what was imported into Oz?

Fuel for your 240K
Well, I've fallen into disgrace and in-advertantly purpetuated a mis-truth that was circulated by others on another list. After carefully checking the Shell site I can positively state that I was wrong! Optimax is 98 Octane LRP is 96.3 Racing is 107 and CAMS A3 [V8 supercar control fuel] is 98. I can't wait until the question shows up again on the other list! As for the head, I couldn't see any advantage, but I was wrong before so I'm probably wrong now! MOM

Speaking of VIN's, how many has the RHD register up to now? MOM

Fuel for your 240K
Shell LRP is a higher octane than Optimax. It's also cheaper. So when in Rome.......

Speedo Question
OK, now we know what it does on a carbureted 260. The question remains what does it do on a FI 280?
-
Back of the Speedo
Me thinks you have mis-read what I wrote. Being based in the land of Aus, I deliberately prefaced that this refered to our 260's, which came equipped with those notorious carbies, up to '78. These late models had all different pollution control systems and the wires coming from the rear of the speedo was part of the anti-pop or anti-backfire system. As to what they do on 280's fitted with EFI, I have no idea. For all that I know they may not connect with anything! Sorry to have missed your earlier question on this. MOM

Is this a sign of worn rings?
I would think that no carbon indicates no combustion. It may be that the air/fuel charge in the cylinder doesn't burn [explode] at the outer extremity of the combustion chamber. Hence no carbon. Have absolutely no idea if this is a answer but may be feasible?

Back of the Speedo
In the ozzie 260's [read 280 with flat top carbs], this was part of the emmission control system. From memory part of the anti back fire system, as to whether you can chop it in a FI system I don't know, but you can in the ozzie 260. HIH

Underhood Relay Query
If its any help my 73 doesn't have one. [And it's original again]! I doubt it's original, Bosch sort of conjures up many odd PO fixes or add-ons. My bet is a relay added to the starting circuit. HIH MOM

Att: Victorian Z Owners
Gav, If you're planning a drive later towards the penninsula I may be able to meet up with you guys. Just give me an ETA for Springvale/Wells/Freeway and I'll see what I can do. MOM

Att: Victorian Z Owners
Yep! Unfortunately not able to make your meet on that date. MOM

Identify this part
I should have added that the fuses in the box are part of the charging circuit. The ampmeter works by sensing the drop in currnt between the shunt [which is the M that you mention].

Att: Victorian Z Owners
Gav, THere are a lot of S-30 owners out there in Victoria that are hankering for a S-30 register. Many S-30 owners have other interests apart from Sprints, hence target there interest towards clubs that support the style of event that they seek. Goodluck, and feel free to add my cars to your register. Mike of the Mire [MOM, for short]!

Identify this part
That is the shunt that is used for the ampmeter. Leave it be least the gods of darkness will prevale!

What's wrong with Automatics
Nothing wrong with a auto. I've got both and enjoy driving each one!

Bosch distributor
Doubt it would be the shaft, I believe [but haven't done it] that the bearing can be pressed out and replaced. Presto.... no movement and dizzy like new!
-
Bosch distributor
Is the conversion to electronic? Where and how much will this cost?

Confusion reigns
There are 2 types of 5 speed boxes [in Aus that I know of]:- The early 5 speed boxes where a flange fit. ie bolt on to the trans shaft. The later boxes and more common [in Aus] is a sleeve fit. I had no idea that the speedo gear carrier was different as I've never had the different types side by side?
