Side Flashers / Side Markers
Hi Alan, I'll give my age away now, but I brought my first zed new from a dealer [brad Boyden Datsun, Airport West, just in case anyone is interested], although it was a 260 2+2, it was none the less brand spanking off the floor. Traded my V6 Capri and sadly regret not keeping both. Did we have an option as to what we could have? Interesting question, as it was already loaded with dealer options and the thought of having this "immediately" rather than having to wait 3 months weighed heavily on me. In reality it was now or never and I chose the now rather than waiting for what could be a very very long wait. They where very much in demand, and I wouldn't think any one actually put in a special order. Nismo where pretty active in Aus at that time, if anything at all, "specials" where Factory Parts ordered from the catalog to spice up the local imports. HIH Cheers MOM

Completely Clueless
Woops. just re-read your post and noted 208zx dizzy, guess thats electronic and has no cap. Sounding like a heat related problem, maybe the black box module is intermitant. You couild buy a can of spray freeze and start cooling different sections of the ignition to fault find. Good luck!

Completely Clueless
Try replacing the capacitor in the dizzy

Anything interesting
Don't forget Targa Tasmania....27 April to 2 May. Incidentally, Yackandandah is soooo similar to a country town in Tas. NE Victoria in the higher country, Beechworth, etc is worth the visit.

Carb for 240K coupe
Razor: To answer your questions, you best need to perform 2 searches. 1. Use the search function at the top of the home page using the word "round top", then search again using "flat top". This will give you a better idea of carb differences.

I hate this... Vacuum Water Cock.. in the heater/air conditioning??!!

Take the advice of a Victorian and head straight to Tassie. Don't forget Precious. Or Contact the Tas Tourist Bureux. They have a special Targa Holiday thingie where you can hire a boxster and follow the Targa Route. Tassie in Autumn is magic! MOM

Other Datsuns Section
How about a tab on the home page to other datsuns and their forums. By utilising this method we can all access info about our cousins without jamming up the Classic Z page? I totally agree that reading about different models and the similarities to Classic s 30's is interesting, however, a line needs to be drawn somewhere before the main page becomes to fractured. Mike

Enkei Datsun Works wheels
Thanks all for your replies and advice. I've contacted the owner and they are 1600 rims, therefore of no interest to me. However that said, if there is anyone that is interested in them, they are located in Victoria, Australia. PM for the owners e-mail and I'll pass on. Cheers Mike

Enkei Datsun Works wheels
Anyone have any ideas whether: 1. These where used on the rally 240 works cars? 2. What they could be worth? [in AUD please]? Ta MOM

260Z Truth
Well, when I said some S20's imported into Aus, I really only now of one. I guess if there is a least one then there may be others? One would think it would be cheaper [least expensive to import directly from Japan, rather than NZ or AUS]. Many Japanese cars are being privately imported into Aus as "grey" imports, these being latter model GTR's etc.

Datsun 140Z.... Yes 140Z
Where have I said they where rare? I hate being mis-quoted. You might see a lot of them in Perth, not many left over here due to rusting.

260Z Truth
These cars would have been privately imported into NZ. There are also some S20 zeds in Aus, also privately imported.

260Z Truth
Sean, Australia was Nissan's dumping ground for all it's un-saleable cars. The 260 2+2 was sold here until 78, complete with flat tops BECAUSE there was plentiful stock of them and they [Nissan] had to palm them off somewhere, no prizes for guessing where they ended up either! In a way it made for some interesting local version with various combinations of model years appearing when the boat came in. Regards MN

What do the Vacuum Solenoids Do?
May I suggest that you keep the bottle, it acts more as a vacuum reservoir and will be benefical when [if] changing heater modes. The solenoids are just that an air switch, I have a diagram at home, and am trying to remember the logic of it all! [one opens & the other closes, fan goes 1 speed higher than the switch allows] Even for those with A/c they can be confusing. FWIW, Nissan should have been able to design something simpler for the A/c unit.
-
What do the Vacuum Solenoids Do?
Yes, in that case you can. Just plug up the holes. [i can now understand why these where a mystery to you, maybe a PO ditched the A/c as there is no reason for the factory to add these].
-
What do the Vacuum Solenoids Do?
Those are part of the A/C.

What do the Vacuum Solenoids Do?
On 260 models [& probably 280] all air functions are contolled by vaccum. This was a product of the new style dash.

Datsun 140Z.... Yes 140Z
Finished for Carol & the Boys, Have to wait till New Year for my Xmas present [a 260z from the collection of the one armed man, and I'll remind him about the metal G Nose]. Merry Xmas Alan, and all other classic zed members. Mike of the Mire

Datsun 140Z.... Yes 140Z
Local where Alan? I'm not aware of a 140Z ever being released in Aus, seems your not convinced either? I would suspect you are on the right track with a locally spec'd up varient of the 120Y, however 'not in Australia!

HELP...new I/C etc 280Z warm starts like hell!
Thats the Fuel filter, it may be blocked/dirty, unlikely but worth ruling out. The fix on carbureted zeds with this problem, [ my 260 suffers from it, while my 240 doesn't], is to isolate the fuel lines from any heat, usually by means of a heat shield. As I mentioned at the start of my first reply, I don't now ANYTHING about FI & Turbo's, so I hope this doesn't lead you astray from the cause. Once again good luck!

HELP...new I/C etc 280Z warm starts like hell!
I haven't the foggiest about FI, however, this is suspiciously similar to fuel starvation caused by vaporisation. Check your filter and fuel pump first, just to make sure they are OK and delivering fuel from a cold start, then re-check after you have warmed the engine up [similar to the time period when your problem starts]. Best I can suggest. HIH
