Let's build us a club race car ?
Many are produced for Targa Tasmania each year. I reckon that it must have the greatest amount of 240/260 zeds competing at the same time!

Lash pads
I hadn't contemplated changing cams without the head off? Is that normal?

Lash pads
I should have added, last time I did this Lash pads where like gold. I think I got touched about $40ea. [must have seen me coming]! So If possible get a cam thats been ground off a new billet, cross fingers and hope you can grind down your old one's. On the other hand if you can find a cheap source of supply of pads let us know. Good Hunting.

Lash pads
Brett, There is an in depth write up on valve & timing events in one of the ""How to" rebuild books. Can't exactly remember which one, I'm sure someone else will chip in with the right name. [2many, if he reads this will know]! Accordingly, lash pads thickness is determined by "trial & error", basically by checking the wipe of the cam over the rocker arm [not sure if thats the right name, but I'm sure you know what I mean] and adjusting the lash pad thickness so the wipe pattern is centered within the hardened seat. Hope this helps.

Lash pads
Have to disagree on the standard" height valve stem old chap. I know for a fact when I had my last head job, that the new valves [the old ones where bent] where shorter than the originals, not much but enough to have new [thicker] lash pads. I guess if your using "genuine"nissan values for that head then you'd be correct. Cam radius will depend on the thickness of the cam lobe. Some are ground from new billets, others from original cams. Hence the difference in lobe thickness.

Lash pads
Brett, I doubt that you can calculate lash pad height. The way I see it, valve stem height and cam radius will both contribute to differences in lash pad thickness. Hence the need to measure on the job, so to speak! Not saying I'm right, over to the other experts..........

Time Zones
Oh it is Gunner, I've asked Mike if it was possible to add GMT time somewhere on the main page to we all had the same reference. Like the old "who's in the chat room" that adorned the main page before the "big Crash", I guess it's not possible. Cheers

Early 2+2's
Sorry, missed this earlier as I was bent over in fits of laughter at the thought of Alan blowing a fuse over the G-Nose. OK, I don't have the mag, what have I missed?
-
Early 2+2's
Oh damn, that info was in a PM and now it's public! Oh well, look on the brighter side only I know who the one armed man is!
-
Early 2+2's
I hope your lying down as you read this Alan, It is the the one and the same guy. Now, we both await his response as I would like to prove him wrong for once, but going on past performance his knowledge is, like yours, in depth on the subject. This would be the only time that any disagreement has surfaced, so we await..........

Gav, Alfa & AlanT Thanks for your help. Have saved photos for later use. When I start the ZGRS-30 project these will come in handy.

Early 2+2's
I suppose a story like this has the ability to raise one's blood pressure. Alan, if you don't want the Bex, can I suggest some other type of Aspirin to ease the pain associated with these events! As I wrote last I may had mis-heard him, [i'm pretty deaf on the LHS now-a-days] and it was a pub crawl home with trailer in tow, but I didn't think that a clagger like this would bring you to your knees begging!
-
Early 2+2's
Well he hasn't called a wrong call yet! I must admit we where all pretty tired that day and I may have mis-heard him, so I'll e-mail him and await an answer complete with proof. In the mean time lie down & take a Bex! Mike

Exp. of interest 260z 2 seater, melb, aus.
I bumped this back up to the top for you Nat. Like a few others I'd be interested in hearing what you would like for the "beastie"as is?

Early 2+2's
Oh, c 'on Alan, Don't take my one and only chance of glory away from me! To have the one & only ZGRS-30 is now my life's ambition! Mike

Early 2+2's
No it's not original but a 3 or 5 piece fibreglass copy [can't remember how pieces we loaded now, its too long ago]! Original, well this is an interesting point as I was advised by a friend in the"know " that the actual originals where sheet metal and not fibreglass as many of us think! So what's original, the sheetmetal version or the copy of the original! The mind once agin boggles over the countless minor differences Nissan introduced!

what is this???
Huh..so as I suspected my 73 is really a 70 and my 77 is a 73, good news is that the 2/2 which was a 76 made in 73 was really built in 69! Yes, Alan I've come to the same conclusion that these numbers are all "rubbery", it's a pity, but the sooner we accept it then life can go on.

Early 2+2's
This raises another interesting point. How did a Jap home market 2/2 get into Australia. Coupe's I can understand and have seen the odd example, but who would want to import a 2/2?
-
Early 2+2's
Don't suppose you have the link to the auction, old chap? I've looked and got lost in the ether!
-
Early 2+2's
Excellent work there old chap! As you asked, does anyone know the placement of this? I gather 2 are required?
-
what is this???
Just wishful thinking, George. Unfortunately, from your description it's a '73. MN

Alfa, this isn't a replica race car. This is the real thing in factory [aussie team colours]. L28? what do you mean?. Thats definately a L24 block residing under the bonnet and he has the CAMS logbook to prove it! It's really great to see a KGL with a genuine competition history still in business.
