Hi Carl, I didn't want to hijack the thread from it's original question, however as you have (I don't feel guilty about it now) I can explain to you why you didn't find a list of Authorised Dealers in Australia. There is no list from that period, the Dealers were appointed by the Distributor, you must remember the only presence Nissan had in Australia was through an appointed Distributor. There generally was one in each State operating independantly to each other and importing directly from Japan. FWIW The population of Aust. at that time would have been equivilant to Tokyo, just to get an appropriate idea of scale. This incidentally would go a long way in explaining the importation of the C110 (again from memory) into South Australia, which was reported in an thread which attracted considerable debate earlier in the year. The Distributor then appointed Dealers, these where located in large country towns, generally any town with a population greater than 2K already had a distributor of UK makes, the authorised dealer usually was an authorised Morris or Mini agent. Show rooms where mariginal, read generally no room, sales where by brochure. Sales reps generally went from town to town trying to interest any service station (as we called petrol stations/mechanics at the time) into becoming a Authorised Dealer, after all the start of the network had to begin somewhere. I re-call the Service Sation/Mechanic opposite (1 man band) where I grew up in the late 50's/early 60's had the "Authorised Dealership" for Rambler, only every sold one car and that was to himself! Neon and other signs displaying Datsun Dealer started appearing in the mid 70's (not exactly sure of the date) after Nissan resumed distributors rights and started marketing in there own right. (I remember chasing a part for my 260 in 1978 in St Arnaud, pop. 1500 which had a Datsun Dealer) and there was a list provided in the service/handbook at that time. Sorry for the hi-jack, perhaps Mike can move the thread and re-name it from your post as it is an interesting subject. I would be interested in reading from others in other countries what other vehicle makes where sold by their "Authorised Datsun Dealer"? Regards MikeN

HS30 103305 also didn't come with heated rear glass!
  4. Ok, it's Thursday here, that makes it Wednesday PM over there, what happened?
  5. Looks like someone may have thought they could be converted/engineered to adjustable platforms. It's possible but unlikely. (I know now that I have written this someone will post that they have a set)! Junk as far as I see it.

Zack you may need to consider other options. I'll start with, dished pistons or different cam. nixcars has suggested fly cutting the pistons, any others?

My 73 has no chain, but the 77 260 has, I've concluded that the chain only came after the 240? Good question, with no definitive answer (as yet).
  8. Carl, Thats the best advice offered to any newbie to this site for a long time! We all should bookmark your reply and refer back to it everytime the urge to do what appears to be an easy job! While we all would like to perform out own work, think of the practicalities at this point in time. Start small and work your way up. Good luck MOM

I'm no expert in this but it could be one of two problems. You may need to notch out an eyebrow on the cylinder(S) or the valves may be hitting the top of the piston, in which case you would need dished out pistons. I have no idea how you are going to determine which is the problem? There are a couple of really knowledgable engine builders on this list, I'm sure they will chime in and point out other fixes.

Condesers go open circuit when they fail. Why not test it by disconnecting it, FWIW, I don't see it as your problem, more likely that the alternator you have swapped out is faulty.

Check the window on the side to see if the fuel level is correct. There is a line on the window showing correct height. If it's over then your most likely overflowing. They do breathe a bit, but it seems yours is breathing to much!
  12. You mean you have never walked around the back of your zed at night?
  13. bump for a member needing help.....
  14. Eric, you have to much spare time on your hands............

Take it from one that has flat tops on one of his vehicles, that the ONLY mod that you would want to do is a changeover with round tops. Perhaps a complete strip down and overhaul will solve your problem? Believe me, I've thought about how to do it and the only way is to engineer so system that allows the mixture to be varied. ie variable height jet that the needle sits in. All that you would achieve is a complicated round top SU. All the time and effort that you have expended would have brought you a set of round top SU's. That the reason they (the flat tops) where ditched in favour of FI. YOur other solution is to alter the float level, but be very careful as it's very time consuming to remove the carbies all the time to make minute adjustments.
  16. OH , now I know what part your after. They didn't exist in the earlier models, my parts catologue doesn't show it, neither has my 240 got one! However, my 260 has. Perhaps you can find one on a parts cars or look for a later model catologue
  17. You may have more success looking for a suitable replacement from a Electronics store. I found grommets for the firewall in Tandy many years ago, a lot cheaper to!
  18. I would doubt that there is anyone doing a classic resto in OZ, it all seems to be about modifying in some manner. The last item that people want is the original wheels. Could be wrong, but that the way I see it.
  19. Same reply as boyblunda, however, I would prefer a OD in the auto.....

You should be able to pick up a "new" valve cover from a junked engine.

Sounds ,like the best solution I have ever heard. No springs or retainers I gather. Any more info on this, such as part number etc?
  22. Thanks Alan, Prozac does a wonderful job, doesn't it! The attachment answers the question perfectly. It also show the inconsistancies within the Prefix system. In future, I promise NOT to use the system used in one particular model to another model type. Cheers from the Antipodies. MOM
  23. Thanks Garry, Thats the type of information that is invaluable. No sense re-inventing the wheel, is there!
  24. Actually, I think it would be cool to have a zed with an auto O/D trans. It's a fair question to ask, which/what later model trans will fit, after all there are many engine swaps & upgrades, why not an auto upgrade?

At least you know the problem isn't a spark or timing problem. Fuel and fuel related problems are your starting point. Have you checked the fuel filter? Fuel pump working? Thats the depth of knowledge I have on FI motors..
