  1. It isn't a stupid question. Just watch as the debate gets furious! I believe that the thick end towards the front is correct, although I prefer the the other way.

I beg to differ. As the person who wrote it and ran it, I can definately say that you can run it without other people. This event was nearly official free, the only reason I included the others was that I was sick to death of driving the route and wanted others involved. The only setting up is deciding on the route then drawing up the tulips! I asked questions at certain tulips and had information boards along the route. To avoid setting up, delete the boards. However, you make a point in your reply as you mention a co-driver. This wasn't made clear in your original question. The only option (IMO) you have would be a motorkhana.

Have a look at http://www.hra.org.au/comingEvents/2006/2006TipToethrutheTulips.asp This involves no fancy setting up.

Actually, they weren't to rare when they came out. They were locally known as the 120Y, they were a popular car, just rusted out quickly. I thought there was a thread on this model several years back? FWIW

I thought the production year was from July?

Would these vehicles built before June 1968 be regarded as 68 models? If so then this will have large implications in HRC categories (at least in Australia asthe 240 could then be recognised in HRC1! Eyes are glued to the screen........ MOM
  7. Hi Paul, http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=129 is the location. From memory it was locked by the moderator to keep the forum un-contaiminated. MOM Edit: Look like the mods have moved it for you....

John is correct is assuming that your SU's are not OEM. Haven't a clue as to what there off, but it ain't a zed..
  9. In OZ the very early 260's had the same body as a 240. Look at the radiator support. There is the subtle difference. If you find one of these bodies then this would be the ideal body to change over. It still won't be a 240 however! 260's in the US may be extremely rare and desirable? So it may be counter-productive.

If the pins gone missing then It's a fair bet it will be floating around in the oil sump. Looks like you've got a big job ahead of you, I've been there and cursed the floating dowel. I keep it on top of my monitor to remind me to keep checking it for thightness! Luckily, heads are generally re-buildable, good luck.. MOM

I just remembered that the only kit I could find was Fuel Miser, not sure of the availability, perhaps you can post back if you manage to find a set?

I'm pretty sure the 55 started appearing on the not so early 260's. I've just measured 51 on my late 240, the early 260's where very similar to the 240 so maybe a changeover occured late 74/early75? edit: Just grab a caliper & measure them....

I'm running flats on the 260, purely because it's authentic. The only work that I performed was to overhaul them totally. A complete strip down and re-build. I doubt that it can be done now as the re-build kit is NLA. As I've stated in previous thread, they work fine, infact better that the round tops that I have on the 240, go figure that one out. My advice, to stay original use the flats, but only after you have re-built/conditioned/overhauled them. Good luck and let us know how you go. MOM
  14. But he said he still had spark, it should at least idle if that is the case. Condenser bad = no spark period... I think you may have a fuel problem, interested how you go...
  15. FWIW, the rack on my 260 is nothing like the one posted, however, 260's in OZ tend to be bitzers, so nothing would surprise me! MOM
  16. Hi Joseph, I've never come across the "one" on the left. Are you sure it's a zed rack? The attachment to the rack on the lower left has me confused, it appears to be part of the pinion? MOM
  17. Zedrally replied to Dat 240K's post in a topic in 240K Skyline
I guess the solution is to change over the sump from the "K". Still no definitive answer, which is surprising! MOM

If it's a down draft, then the motor came from a 260C (Cedric). I didn't realise the dipstick are different, isn't the L series block all the same? MOM
  19. There isn't a rebuild kit for the vac unit, either buy a new one or visit pinch-a-part.
  20. Websteg, it's not the scuts you need to worry about, it's the other entrants who may protest. It's highly unlikely that one would (not at least at club or state level), you don't indicate where in OZ your in, if your in Vic I can put you in touch with many other HRC1 510 owners who can offer advice. . If I can offer some advice, I think you are being initially over cautious. It won't be the first & last box that you will use, so why not just start out with a easily obtained zed box and work on getting the homolgated special as time goes by and you obtain more experiance. Good luck, PM me if you would like contact info. MOM
  21. The 510 is recognised as HRC1 pre 68. It was always thought that it was 68-75 HRC2, however much digging un-earthed the proof that it was originally sold in OZ in 1967, therefore being recognised as HRC1. We have many 1600's running in the HRA that are HRC1. The only 5 speed box that was homolgated at that time came from the roadster, which only required a different bellhousing (if memory serves me right, I'm sure someone here will correct me if I'm wrong). I guess you would only need to worry about that if you are running a State level or higher event. At club level it's generally a gentlemans agreement that allows option gearboxes to run on the 510, after all we're out there for the fun! How serious are you? Otherwise you could run PRC.
  22. Websteg, I gather you're building a datto 1600 in HRC category, am I correct? If so the the correct period is 1967, pre 68 or HRC1. If that is the case then you will need to use the Roadster gearbox. I guess it's really comes down to the level of competition that you're contemplating, if it's just clubbies then any 5 speed will do, if it's Targa then you need to be extremely careful to use the homolgated box. I probably haven't answered your question either, but I hope the info helps.
  23. No... that is the EGR valve. The idle speed a/c valve was mounted at an angle with a hook like attachment to the throttle mechanism. The manifold is most definately off a RS-30 or derivitives, which leads to speculation about the SU's. A bit of a bitza I would say.....
  24. There wouldn't be anyone in Woomera, the base closed back in the 80's, and I doubt that the current occupiers would be remotely interested. It's a pity that only anecdotal evidence is available, bit like the metal g-nose, isn't it!
  25. Thats for the EGR (emission) The 260 has them. I hate being a doubting Thomas, however I don't think the're from a 240Z.
