Crap, I only get 17MPG.... :( ... what i can do...
I can get 450km out of my 260 [2+2 auto & flat top carbs], and 350km out of the 240 manual! Both have 60L tanks, I've never been able to work out why this is!

Chassis number HS30 - 103276
It would be strange that my 240 has a 240 dash and is a later number than yours with a 260 dash. My money would be on a PO changing the dash over. Can anyone beat my car num?

The Neglected 280ZX?
Well i don't have any actual import figures for 2+2's, but they were the much mis-aligned model of the series. Mainly because of the emission controls. Get rid of them and the car became another beast! I have owned a few over the years, mainly due to an expanding family. [it's true what Datsun thought about single, then couples then young families buying the expanding car]! I did, never regretted it as I could take my wife of the time and our 2 boys wherever we wanted in a head turning car! Now I own a 2 seater as well and find that they all have there uses. The 240 is undoubtably fun to drive and is purely used for gravel use, whilst the 2+2 is magnificient on the open road, even my partner loves driving it!

The Neglected 280ZX?
Gav/Ben, Have to differ on the 2+2's. There are a few that have been restored [i have one]. They are in the minority and will no doubt become the rarest of all zeds in the country in due course.

su carb oil
I use ATF, others have their own ideas. Do a search on SU Oil, you can be sure that you will get a variety of suggestions! [must admit I haven't heard of olive oil yet, but it must be pretty close to the correct weight]!

Chassis number HS30 - 103276
Ha, Old saying never hit reply button without checking.... I went and looked at the chassis num on my 240. Guess what 103305! I would be doubting the source of your info!

The actual cutoff date would have been different for home or export, [especially into the US]. Your number isn't far away from what was quoted, where did you get your info from in the first place? If it was Zhome, then some of the numbers they quote are a bit "rubbery'as they haven't taken local production into account. In reality, one would expect a overlap in parts, a case in question is later model 260's imported into Australia, were for all intents a combination of the 280 and what ever was left over and couldn't be used in the US.

how many 260Z 2+
Well it must be a first. A zed in Corsica! Over to our European members from here on. Fred, Alan etc.......

how many 260Z 2+
2+2's where built from 73 to 78 [in Australia]. Almost any figures are rubbery as they do not include the home market! Which year and which world region are you buying in?

no go
well if the cylinders aren't firing then they wouldn't be looking good! Is there spark on all cylinders or only 3?

no go
Why not pull the plugs and have a look at there condition? This can tell you a lot about the cause of your problems! Good luck & don't forget to report back!

Distributer Shaft Play
Your on your on there, I have no knowledge of these units.

Emblems
Try levering them out with a wide bladed paint scrapper. Gently does it.

Distributer Shaft Play
ahhhh, that ain't around the corner from Oakleigh! You won't have any problems changing over, They didn't import duel points into Australia [as far as I'm aware]. Just remember the order of the leads and simply change the distributor over.

Distributer Shaft Play
I would think you're worried about the dizzy play. That would come from worn bearings. Advice I have is that the bearings are NLA. This happened to me and I had to replace with another dizzy. I think it came off a ZX and has created a few problems of it's own. I have recently acquired a "proper " dizzy and will replace it in due course. In answer to your question, there shouldn't be any play, if there is then the timing will be out [or rather the gap]. If you have a wobble in the dizzy then you will need to replace it with another. Hope this helps.

Automatic or Manual
I got both, however you can't compare them as Alfa thinks. The 240 is manual and goes like the clappers, so does the 260, but remember it is a 260 2+2 and is heavy as, also is running with original, but overhauled carbies. It's like comparing apples and pears. Anyone with a auto & manual 240 out there?

Distributer Shaft Play
I think there are 2 things you're asking here. 1. Distributor shaft play. 2. Dizzy play. Which one would you like an opinion on?

Flat top carbs and I need help
Mike, In the interests of making the thread readable, is it possible to remove those threads and replies which diverted the attention of the intended thread? If you feel that this is not possible or would rather not, could you please copy the salient details relating to flat tops into a new thread. The info in the thread must be regarded as interesting to people who[m] for whatever reason do not want to change to pre-emission SU's
