Oh Alan, I can't exactly agree with you on this point. Although I can't exactly see the consul in question [bigger picture please steve-o]. Late model 260Z's can fitted with a similar piece of factory equipement. The first zed I brought way back in 1977 was a 260 2+2, spanking new and sported this luxurious device. The current 77 that I've restored also came with it, although it had subcumbed to the ravages of time and has been replaced with a handcrafted wooden piece of furniture. The centre consol appears to have been an evolving piece of furniture and each "model" year seems to have a different centre consul. So, how about a pic of the consul and we can discuss it over tea and crumpets!

Mean't to look in the manual last night...forgot. Zhome quotes 2+2 curb weight as 2855lb a tad short of 1300kg. Approx 350kg [770lb or a whopping 37% increase in weight] more than a 240. Not sure what exactly curb weight is? Full fuel, 2 pax etc??????

Alan, There is that possibility that they are in agreement with us on this matter. I know, its remote, but possible! RHD rules!!!

Can't quote you on weights, but can speak from experiance. Wasn't the original question concerning 240 to 260 2+2 comparision? As I said a 2+2 is excellent for navigational events, it's doubtful if you would be competitive in Tarmac events. Think of it as a mini vs a 240 in Motorkhana's. Horses for courses. You must be mistaken, me bad mouth a scrut, never, never, a thousand times never, however, have you confused officials and their duties? A scrutineer and official scrutiny is held before a rally to check the car complies with all entry details in the supp regs, and complies with the NCR & NRC [if a rally]. The point I was making is that some zeds entered in Targa aren't legal in their class. ie 240's entered in original capacity when they are running highly modified 280 engines. The rules are rules and one only needs to protest for them to be adhered to, alas it's something that the organiser dreads but it will happen one day.
  5. Pretty sure your thinking of the by-pass solinoid. From memory, the pump always ticks over with fuel delivery being monitored by water temp and RPM.

Nuh, those events are to fast for me. I just charge around in the bush dodging trees in a 240Z {avatar}. Unless you have a full race setup in a rally car then I wouldn't give anyone a chance of completing, let alone winning Targa. Don't believe all you here about classes either, some 240's competiting aren't 2.4L 240's, Try a 280 bored out to 3.1L or there abouts. Until the scrutineers have the bottle to pull one of these apart and disqualify a crew or two then a "true" 240 will never win. Let this be a warning to all competitors as if I ever get to compete, I'll certainly be protesting all 240's entered!!!! I have often tinkered with the idea of using a 2+2 shell in the forest. Technically it's longer wheelbase should be a bonus, but unless you can keep the weight to around 1000kg then I still can't see you being competitive.

Might be cheap, but it's grossly overweight. If your thinking Targa Tas, then could I suggest you rethink and find a 240z or 260 2 seater shell to use. Don't get me wrong as I use a 2+2 in Navigational events, this would probably be the only type of event that the 2+2 can be competitive. Lot's of luck in your Targa endeavours, it's the pinnicle of Tarmac events and attracts a huge 240/260 audience.

Only if you supply the tea & crumpets! MN

I'm sure this will start some intense debate. At the unveiling of the 350Z in Japan, the prototype car was RHD. (see news item posted by Z-point & subsequent thread). This implies that the pre-production mules would have been RHD and thus #0001 will be a RHD 350Z, not the LHD 350Z that is being sold on e-bay. When one thinks more about this, it becomes evident that #00001 240Z [or any of the Z series] would have also been RHD and not LHD as has been suggested. I'll now duck for cover, have a great weekend, look forward to some debate on Monday!
  10. Ok Alan, Never having seen a LHD zed, I have often wondered what was mirrored and what wasn't? You mentioned the handbrake and exhaust/carbs, is there anything else. Incidentally, when one thinks about prototypes, one wonders if they where LH or RH drive? My bets on RH drive!

Z Kid, You didn't say if your 240 engine was past it's use by date? If it isn't, may I suggest that you "hunt around" for a 280C sedan and pinch the motor from it. It's a far better upgrade if thats the path you want to follow. As Alan T said, you will find it slow revving in comparision to the 240.

  17. Halz, Why not start a new thread, Car Club in WA. There appears to be enough on this list for you to start one up. These discussions in the For Sale Forum must be pushing the limit.
  18. Ahh..... Thats Dons personal page that he created several years ago for the NDSOC. At least I know I wasn't imagining it when I couldn't find any info about them for Mike. Appears nothing has changed within that club and all members again need crystal balls and rely on mental telepathy for communication.
  19. They must have moved web sites. All I get is unable to locate server!
  20. Thats the car, how did you manage to break into the NDSOC site?
  21. Lindsay knows the person and the car. It was garaged there for a while last year. Unfortunately, I can't download your uploaded pic, so I don't know what it is a photo of? I was speaking to the owners son last week and he didn't mention that 004 had been sold, then again I didn't ask either. Send photo to 240z@universal.alphalink.com.au so I can see who you're talking about.

I have scanned a feature that was published in the Racing Car News on the Dashing Datsuns in the 1972 Southern Cross Rally. Unfortunately, no matter what I try I can't get it uploaded. If anyone would like copies and upload to this site please mail me with your address.

Not sure about model, the advantadge here is that Subaru marked their diff's. So look for a sticker with 180 on it.. Now if Alan only lived in Victoria! This is the best part about these forums, the depth of knowledge that is out there, if one only new the question....

Hi Rick, Thanks for your insight into your setup. I'm not sure which Historic Series you're referring to, however, the Historic Rally Car [hrC] Eligility Regulations Cat 2 [1968-1975] Wheels section 5.6.4 states that wheel size may be varied by one size from manufacturers specifications. [see page 11-79 of the CAMS Manual. This was derived from the Historic RAlly Association eligibility regulations. Consecquently, a 15" rim is within guidelines for this type of competition. Generally, we need to raise the car for this type of work. The rally tyres I have when fitted actually lower the car to what we now know is an un-acceptable height. Sounds like you've got a great setup for sprints and motorkhana's, it's more or less what I ended up with, less rear sway and 16" rims. As for the L180 Diff, best bet is looking for a wrecked Subaru.
  25. For a quick 280 transplant, go to your local yard and look for a 280C. Thats the nissan sedan. They only came with a auto so generally there just run in, unless the PO did the head. If you sold your trans, then you might be in for a shock. 5spd boxes don't come cheaply. A 4 speed option is available, look for a 180B or 200B box. Not sure if the bell housing is the same though.
