I was thinking of rebuilding and have some questions that rise from lack of experience. Is it possible and or wise to pull the engine and have a machine shop perform the rebuild and then I just reinstall it. This would be both bottom and top end. In addition, since I am rebuilding I was considering beefing it up by boring etc. Would the machine shop know what must be done or do I need to have some motor knowledge to advise them. I would like to max it out. It is a 1974 260 so my understanding is the car already has the stroke so maybe a bore and domed pistons, beefy cam...??? Any suggestions would be appreciated Oh by the way I am in Arizona so any suggestions as to a local shop would help Thanks zdude1967

I am installing headers, 3 into 2's on my 1974 260z. There are some differences such as the headers do not have the 6 tubes that extend into the exhaust ports, from reading some other treads I think these are the smog tubes. On my original manifold these were cut and welded shut So I assume this means there is no problem with not having the tubes on the headers as I guess the smog is disconnected. Is this correct. The other difference is the original manifold has the tube for the exhaust gas to recycle -the headers do not. What do I do about this. Any suggestions Thanks zdude1967

Quick follow up question. I planned on storing the carbs in basically the same position as they are in when installed. Bob is this the position you are suggesting? Also I have a bad history with ez outs if I break one anybody have a suggestion where it should go in phoenix for professional removal zdude1967

Thanks for the information. I am installing 3 into 2 headers with a 2.5 inch pipe and flowmaster muffler. I have the headers already but am open on the muffler. Any suggestions???

I am putting on headers and will need to remove the exhaust and carburetor manifold for the new gasket. I want to make the process as simple and successful as possible and want to be able to just bolt the carb manifold back on, start the car and go. Is there any special process for handling the carb manifold, such as storing with the carbs facing upright or any other thing I should know to make carb and manifold removal and re-install successful. Will I need to re-adjust the carbs after the go back on? G
