  2. Simple. Much lower emissions standards. Motor Bikes don't have Catalytic converters either! Motor bikes are also (generally) a hi-performance item. They are light and if they us allot of fuel for their size no-one seems to care. They still use less fuel than their car and go quick as! OzLime
  3. Interesting point, but I have a Honda XR 600 sitting in tha garage here which is a single potter. That's 600cc in a single cylinder! An L24 only has 400cc per cylinder! (2400/6=400) So I don't think this point is valid. Put 6 carbs off the likes of a hy-po Honda CR-600 road bike and I think you will have more than enough flow. Some Moto-Guzzi Bikes in this country (Australia) where fitted with 45MM dual barrell Delortos (1 of). Same carb as what where fitted to some Fiats (2 of), Ferraris (4 of) Lamborgreenies(6 of) and my Z! (3 of) So bike carbies are often no different. Especially on hi-po road bikes. This mod would work as long as the barrels where big enough, I'm thinking 40mm for an L24. The throttle linkage could be a nightmare, six balances! wow. As long as jetting is available to allow proper tuning, the barrells are big enough, and they are side-draft. why not! 6 Bike carbies from a wreckers would be signifigantly cheaper than three Webers these days. I love my Delortos but they haven't been made for 10 years or so and the price keeps going up. Good for me I guess, since I already have them. Luckily they still seem to be making parts. Bike carbs could work out to be a cheap speed mod for someone willing to spend the time to set it up. I say go for it! OzLime240Z

Hi All, I've done some research into the Toyota Caliper swap and I've decided to go ahead with it. I've sourced some calipers from the wreckers and done some measuring. I have standard Australian issue 260Z mags, I don't believe the US ever had these. But I would like to keep them and while they are 14" they curve away from the mounting surface enough that they should fit around the caliper. However.... I've done some measuring, which was hard without removing the original Z caliper from the car, and a bit inaccurate due to not being able to get the measuring stick where I wanted it. I've got 11mm clearance on the mag from the original caliper, and the Toyota caliper seems about 10mm wider than the Z, that leaves 1mm. Maybe. So my question to all you knowledgeable people out there, the Toyota caliper has a lump on the outside between the top and bottom piston housing, what does this lump do, can I grind it off? Can I even grind a little bit off? I'm sure someone out there has done it before. There is a picture attached showing the lump I want to modify (read remove or reduce). Thanks in advance OzLime240Z
  5. Wow, what a great result. Long live the Z! You are pulling some serious horsepower, what you got hiding under the hood? OzLime240Z
  6. You'll find it about 10 years ago well-kept and $2500, that's the stuff dreams are made of. OzLime240Z

Hi all, Got my car dyno tuned yesterday, the jetting in the carbs was wrong and I knew it all needed some work. They ran it up, found out what jets needed changing etc on the carbs, changed the jets and fine tuned. After all that they ran it up one more time to check the results and this chart is the result of that. Remebering that I didn't go in and say "How much HP does this make" this was purely a tuning run and the chart that resulted. I was wondering if these are the sort of results I should be expecting from an L28 and how it rates as far as other peoples engines go? Also this is the HP / Torque at the wheels, how do I then convert it to HP at the flywheel? This test was done in third gear. Thanks OzLime240Z
  8. Hi all, I’m a relatively new Z Car owner and I was wanting some help with where is good to buy parts from in Australia, by mail-order, internet, or walking in. I live in Brisbane and I am already aware of the Zcar Workshop, but I would like to know of others around the country. Then I can compare prices or track down that hard to find part. So the plan is to use this forum to develop a list of Z car parts suppliers (new or 2nd hand) and Z car servicing in Australia, complete with their contact details to help all the newbies out here (like me). So here is a couple to start: Z Car Workshop www.zcarworkshop.com.au Underwood, Queensland, Australia Parts and servicing for early Z cars. Dashboard Restorations www.dashboardrestorations.com.au Acacia Ridge, Queensland, Australia Specializing in high quality Z dashboard restorations.

Check out http://www.dashboardrestorations.com.au/ for their local site, has a bit more detail on how they do it. Also this guy : http://www.usq.edu.au/users/degroot/240z/ used them to restore his dash. He lives in Toowoomba a town just out of brisbane. His car is very nice. I myself have no experience with them however my 240Z has a replacement dash that I assume was done by them (since I'm in Brisbane) and it is really good. I'd go as far as excellent. So how do their prices compare to dash restorers in US? Catch you round OzLime240Z
  12. Thanks I'll have a look this tonight and see how neat the one they stock is. I want one that fits really neat, so neat that it looks like original equipment so I may have to see if I can use one off another car yet. Anyone else got a suggestion? Thanks OzLime240Z
  13. Hi Guys, My 240Z doesn't have a radiator overflow bottle. So what? Yeah good point. 240Z's don't have one from the factory. Well, I have an L28 in my 240Z and I would like to put one on. As she warms up it dumps water out. And as she cools down it sucks air back in. So the level in the radiator slowly creaps down. So I think one would make a great addition, but I want to do it neatly and properly (show car). Has anyone fitted a over flow bottle to their Z? If you have, or even if you haven't can you recommend a bottle off an other car, or maybe even an aftermarket one that is easy to fit to a 240? Thanks In Advance ozLime240Z
  14. Sounds good, I'll try and get there. We could have a decent flock of Z's. That would be cool. Seeyas OzLime240Z
  15. We all spend allot of money on our engine and carbs so I guess it's important to keep the fuel, oil, and air clean. I'm not convinced K&Ns keep the air clean. Until about 3 days ago I was set to buy a set for some exorbitant fee. Now I've done some research I don't think I'd put them on my car if someone gave them to me.... It would seem foam is better. http://www.pilot-odyssey.com/~hoser/web/K%26N5.htm http://www.pilot-odyssey.com/~hoser/web/K%26N4.htm Some good points about surface area. http://www.seansa4page.com/resource/airfilter.html I like the comments in here about stopping the big stuff. Dont' we want to stop more than the big stuff? http://www.ctracing.com/air.htm It strikes me that K&Ns can't be all that good a "filter" because if you hold them up to a light you can see through them. Paper or Foam you can't. Also Paper and foam have a lot more surface area so air can pass through at a slower rate overall to acheive the desired flow rate. Sure Maybe K&Ns flow better, but that's no good if they don't stop anything! My 2 cents, but I can still be swayed. OzLime 240z
  16. I thought I wanted a set on K&N's for my 240. Then I red this: http://yarchive.net/car/k+n_filters.html I'm not sure what to think now. What's every elses opinion on this? OzLime240Z

I have an L28 in my 240z, it was there when I bought it. I have no idea what it came out of. I'm curious as to what it came out of.. but since it's an Australian car I suspect it's out of a 280C, or maybe a 280ZX, we didn't have 280Z's Either way it has a F54 block and an N42 head. My main concern is if it is out of a 280C how does this effect the redline. What is the Red line on the 280C? Is it as high as the 240? Or have I been over revving my engine So I guess my question is what is the redline on a L28 with F54 block and N42 head? Thanks In Advance Ozlime240Z

Hi All, I've only recently, like one month ago, become the proud owner of a nice 240Z. Anyway I'm chasing a Car club worth joining in Brisbane Australia. It doesn't nessasarily need to be a Z club, just a good club that does good runs and I can get help from to get me involved in the occasional competitive hill climb. The 240 begs to be raced so I'd love to give that a try. Thanks in advance OzLime240Z
  20. Yeah I'd be in with bells on. Maybe it's being held by the QLD Z Car Club. I'm not a member yet, but plan to be. Also the guys at "The Z Car workshop" in Brisbane might know.
