Check out this all original '73 on fleaBay
Thats no fun. Lets call it a "engine compartment flame surpression kit", but cross our fingers and hope it's a "oil slick sprayer" or "front machine gun"

Clunk elimination done, 95% victorious
Your Z (and garage) look amazing. And now your telling me it purrs like a kitten too? Meanwhile, my Z still needs paint, suspension, a new dash, and eventually a engine rebuild. Oh, and I don't even have a garage, just a car port. Thats it, im back on suicide watch.

2009 Nissan 370Z Private Preview in L.A.
Hard to say, from the few photo's I've seen, if I like it or not. I thought the 350Z was a good looking car, but that it wasn't retro enough for me. I mean, you look at a new Mustang, and say "now THATS a Mustang". But you look at a 350Z and say "nice looking car, what is it?" Honestly, I think the Audi TT looks better, but with similar lines. Anyhoo, I'll wait to see the 370Z in person before I pass judgment.

What's the earliest Auto Z?
Good stuff here. I have #09253, with a build date of 9/70. It was a auto when I bought it, and the original bill of sale (dated 12-31-70, happy new year!) says it was sold as a automatic.

Dashboard cap removal?
I just got around to pulling off the old cap. It was held on with a silicone RTV type of sealant. I tried to take it easy and slow, but even with a straight razor it pulled up chunks of dash. I'll post up some pics later. Anyhoo, the new cap looks a lot better, and covers all the damage. If you ever put on a dash cap, make sure you dont get too close to the lip of the cover. Thanks!

Which clutch to buy?
Ok, thanks to all of you. I ordered the OEM stuff from my local Nissan dealership. It's a bit pricey, almost 2x the cost of the kit from Black Dragon, but if Carl says so, then I gotta go with it

Which clutch to buy?
Thanks for the reply! The car is (and always was) a automatic. I have the 280z shift lever, pedals, etc and am prepared to cut the shift lever opening. I've done a bunch of research on doing the swap, both here and on HybridZ. Just couldn't remember ever seeing anything about a difference between clutches... till I started to order one. :nervous: My research tells me there are only 2 flywheels for 240-280Z. 1 for the coupe, 1 for the 2+2 and turbo. Am I missing something? This is the flywheel I was going to order. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MANUAL-FLYWHEEL-NISSAN-280Z-ZX_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el1116QQitemZ130097484252

Which clutch to buy?
I have a stock '70 240Z, im getting ready to drop in a 5 speed from a '78 280Z. Looking at MSA and Black Dragon they both list different parts for '70-74, and 75-83 (non-turbo coupe). Which one do I get? Im using a refurbished stock flywheel. Thanks!

A 1970 Z car approaches $30 grand!
2 equal cars. Identical. The difference in sale price is ether the buyer, or the salesman. That said, the clean z-cars seem to go for more east of the Mississippi. Probably because the eastern cars rusted to pieces year ago. The car listed in this thread is very nice, but no way will you get $19k, let alone $31K, here in Tucson.

Everything is worth what its purchaser will pay for it. Publilius Syrus - 100 BC I guess that explains the difference between a $3k and a $30k Z-car

Tach Issues
Further trouble shooting confirms that the erratic tach is heat related. Driving at night, or on a cooler (for Tucson), overcast day the tach is fine. On a hot day, or after leaving the car parked outdoors, the tach starts acting up. I'll add "replace tach" to my wish list.

Z is Overheating
Drain the oil. If it's milky, it's got water in it. Looking at the dipstick wont really tell you if it's got water in it unless it has a LOT.

Brad Richards? Center for the Dallas Stars? Sorry things didn't work out for you in Tampa, glad to hear you've got a Z-car. Very cool.

Repairing 240Z combination switch
I took apart the wiper side of the switch, and cleaned things up. The switch is pretty much a mirror image of the lighting side, and all the instructions apply. I did take a couple pics, and will try to post them later.

Honda Wiper Motor Upgrade for the 240Z
Ok, I think Im on to something. The diagram on post #1 says to hook the blue/white line from the car to 85. When I look at the attached wiring diagram it says the blue/white goes to 86. Im assuming the attached version is correct, otherwise there would be 3 lines going to 85, and none to 86.
