When I purchased my 72 Datsun 240Z, it was equipped with a 280Z radiator that extended below the clip. The splash pan was missing. I was able to locate one in California (the owner had removed it because it was in the way. It was in almost new condition.). I removed the 280Z radiator and purchased one from US Radiator (Five core high efficiency. They also manufacture the "Dessert Cooler" and triple cross-flow radiator). I then installed the splash pan. I have had no overheating problems (even at the Dallas/Ft. Worth ZCCA Convention the end of May and first week in June). The temperatures were constantly 95+ degrees F. Includes a lot of slow city driving with long periods if idling.
  2. Dealer installed (January 1972, for delivery) Libre (American Raceing w/caps) on my 1972 Datsun 240z (Silver Bullet). Thirty years later they were professionally cleaned and powder coated. The firm that did the work said they would charge twice as much if they ever had to do a set again. After blasting, cleaning and baking the first coat of powder was applied to the spokes. Upon removal from the oven orange peel was present from continued outgassing. They had to correct and apply a second coat. The same thing happened with the polished rim. I don't recall the exact process or materials used. Have put over 15,000 miles on them and all it takes to clean them is a damp cloth. Balance weights are on the inside of the rim.

Underwent 17 weeks of Basic Infantry and Advanced heavy weapons training just South of Naptown in a defense department recreation area known as Camp Atterbury. This was during the Korean war (police action!). Don't know how the defense department manages to find such training areas!! The 31st Dixie Division (Infantry) DD was located there. The division band marched thru the area at 5:00 am every morning waking everyone to the tune of "Dixie" Best time was a weekend pass to Naptown to the old "Circle Theater" well known for vaudville and burlesque. Korea was even worse than Atterbury. The targets shot back!!

Hi Gavin: :classic: Great installation!! They really improve the comfort feeling you have when you get out of the car after having driven 500 or so miles and no back pain. Did you have much of a problem with the brackets? They appear to be very supportive and comfortable. Ken

Gav: Check my galley. I have Recaro's installed and with the brackets pictured I am able to drop in stock or Recaro seats in a matter of minutes. Ken

Most of the time, this damage to the door skin is caused by improper adjustment of the window frame. This is especially true after installing new door weatherstripping. Some complain that they have a hard time closing their doors, or have to slam the door to close it. To cure this, loosen all the window frame bolts, adjust the door to fil properly, then adjust the window frame to fit properly. If the top of the window frame is adjusted too close to the weatherstripping, it will act as a lever and apply great force on the outer door skin where it meets the inner portion of the door, resulting in the outer skin pulling away or spliting. This can effect either the top front or rear of passenger or driver door.

Just noted you have a 280Z EFI! The info I posted is for the 240Z. I don't know if you have a similiar system function on the 280Z. Sorry....

Check your throttle opener valve setting. There is an adjusting screw that does not let the throttle snap shut when you remove your foot from the accelerator pedal. This is part of the emission control system. This is mounted on the left side of the balance tube and consists of a vacuum control valve which operates the servo diaphram which in turn controls the carburetor throttle valve. If this screw is out of adjustment it will retard throttle return and result in a longer delay for the engine to return to idle speed rpm. This should solve the problem.

I have just posted photo's, which may be of interest, in the fabrication and installation of Recaro seats in a 1972 240Z (SilverBullet). Minimum modification to the original floor mounts and allows either a stock or Recaro seat to be dropped in place with the removal of four nuts and washers. Please see my photo gallery for the photo's.
  21. Since there seems to be some interest in the installation of Recare seats in a 240Z I have posted photo's of the modifications to the seat and existing seat mounts in my galley. Removal of four nuts and washers allows either a stock or Recaro seat to be installed with a minimum of labor and time. This was done ( before ZCCA rule's change) to allow the car to enter Street Modified class with the stock seat and Nissan Modified with the Recaro seats. Most of the time the Recaro seats are installed as they are more comfortable and I can drive 500 miles at a time with no backache. I am 6'0" and weigh 210 pounds. They fit fine, provide full adjustment and tilt forward. Three inches of headroom above my head.
