Window Channel issue?
So I searched this on the forum, apparently no one has touched upon it in at least a few years (or it's a problem unique to me) so... Anyway, when I'm at speed and roll my windows up, they won't be in the track by the time they're at the top, and I'm left with a gap... If I stop the car, they'll roll up normally. I'd like to attribute this in terms of my car's immense speed being enough to create a pressure differential, rather than simply having an out of adjustment track I lean towards the former once more because upon asking my father (who had at least 5 of the things, 240 to 260), he claims each of his cars had the same issue. So IS this normal?

MR30 Skyline on ebay
ehh, not really so ugly... RS Iron Mask cars (meant for more appeal to our types in the first place) are ugly in the meanish, darth vaderesque vain though I'd take even that hatchback in the US, but people would probably think I'd just stuck Skyline emblems on an Olds Ciera ::

New import cars suck-old ones were great/I'm right you are wrong/whatever else.
Harley sells a specialist product for which there is no substitute, and for which people will pay a premium Actually, that's what US companies should focus on IMO, however that would require cutting (or re-allocating, perhaps) jobs at volume factories. I'm not suggesting that regions like the midwest should become poor and jobless, the government is responsible for ensuring that this does not happen while at the same time protecting the US' global outlook. Tomohawk's sentiments are entertainingly left and right wing at the same time  Economics would truly have brought the world together in a harmonious, singing for world peace fashion if it were not for the fact that some percieve a significant "us" vs. "them" barrier that exists among many, which many others just don't percieve. To some, apparently only the US' version of capitalism can bring value to the US (and the world), any other capitalism is evil.

New import cars suck-old ones were great/I'm right you are wrong/whatever else.
...When it comes down to it, other countries are better equipped to mass-produce cars... No slight on the US, but that's not our competitive advantage. What our competitive advantage IS, however, is up for debate and wholly outside the scope of this thread. In any case, yes, the economic situation and culture of Japan are more favorable to car building... But ignoring any excuses, you simply can't call the Japanese car crap (as compared to American cars, which are admittedly improving). If we stopped sinking so much money into the pointless US auto industry, in the long run we'd be better off. Both candidates for president want to pay ridiculous amounts to bail the auto industry out; a better idea might be to help phase it out, so that we entered a more viable worldwide economic position, and helped those who would lose employment find jobs.

Simply, I don't think the US is a manufacturing economy at all, and large scale production of automobiles should be left to foreigners Of course, then the US auto industry could then use its talent (there is much to be had) to produce specialty cars, which would be worth the price, instead of trying to compete head on with Japan and Europe...

Im a newby
Good year I'd have to do a lot of soul searching to think of what to do with the original engine, and probably would end by keeping the turbo, and then taking it to its logical conclusion with more mods, . Afraid I don't have any spares, I'm sure you know of all the typical places to order this stuff, I'm sure some individual on this board must have what you're looking for though Pics?

Supercharged Hot Rod 240Z
...to each his own But just to warn you... one of these days, for every bastardized Z I'm going to take a Camaro and swap in a twin turbo Z's suspension and engine to attone for all these years

I wasn't alive anywhere near the era, but I got the impression that the Z (and 510) were the first cars to break that stereotype of Jap crap (not that it's now completely broken or anything)... As earlier Japanese offerings weren't even competitive in the US market, and the Z then proceeded to equal and beat the competition. Since then, Japanese cars that performance oriented types would scoff at have been sold... But the point is, they've actually sold, and in large numbers

Z Update
Rule #1: A car with EFI is nice for power, smoothness, and efficiency... But if you're a novice, lacking in skill, knowhow, and equipment, attempting to repair a car with some fault in the EFI is downright antisocial I have rudimentary knowledge of how the system and its components work, and in fact have two cars with Bosch L-jetronic (what your car has, or maybe L-jetronic lambda depending on the year) myself (and another with mechanical K-jetronic, a whole different nightmare), and I'm still wary of working on the system unsupervised. Experts like SBlake probably feel differently The hick way out, is to pull the EFI for carbs (which may or may not be legal, my Z is a 75 and thus smog exempt). I won't suggest that though, because IMO the fuel injection is part of what makes 280s special... And it's also neither the easiest or cheapest way out, IF you diagnose the problem PROPERLY, yourself. It'd probably going to be cheaper and easier to fix your EFI than to initiate a carb conversion. I'd suggest picking up a book... damn I forgot what it's called, but it's something like Bosch Fuel injection, search that on Amazon. Good luck, that car needs to be sorted out, 280Zs are the best

Supercharged Hot Rod 240Z
Ouch... As much as I agree with the above statement, harsh one I'm sure there are plenty (even on these boards) who will appreciate such an endeavor however... When it comes time for me to build my ultimate Z, it will retain more of what makes the Z ultimate in the first place... including the suspension and engine In other words, a turbo, some lowering springs, and if I could find it one of those neat dohc heads As a Japanese car distinctly designed to appeal to the American market, it seems that the modding world is most often stuck somewhere between the muscle and JDM spheres (aka old white men, young Asian kids). I've noticed that for many Z owners, the Z is considered an exception to the "Jap is crap" notion... A sentiment alienating them from both camps.

Hold on to Your Hats...an $82K Euro Rally Spec 240z...
...I'd rather see more nice, street driveable Zs than that one, which admittedly would look great and perform well on the track (but then again anything could, almost, if prepped properly), but would never be something to pick up a date in or drive cross country Though I should be glad that cars like that exist, to keep the reputation of mine up

NISSAN GTR......wow!
The ZR1 goes around the ring faster, but most drivers would die within 5 seconds on the ring anyway... It's hardly got the fastest top speed money can buy, but again, this winds up being a moot point to most drivers... To whom the only visible, meaningful statistic of performance is the 0-60 time, which the GTR will absolutely stomp anything in, and for half the price of its nearest competitors... And it has a back seat So I guess it can't be a sports car anyway Looks hardly matter in terms of this car... but I don't understand why they had to make it so damn ugly. Oh well. When I'm a hedge fund manager it'll be first on my list, and I'll consider it a bargain.

Modernized 240Z?
I have no problems discussing this time and time again, because each time I get to bump up how horrible it looks. The more I look at it, the less good I'm inclined to say about it, but the more I want to let it's ugliness speak for itself As for the 350, it's big, but beautiful IMO.

"Other" Datsuns...
Yeah, I reallized after I typed that that the 810 was encircled by the 70s, but kept it because to me it sort of gets grouped with cars from the next era... Not that I have had much of a chance to "group" it at all, what with them being relatively rare (though I believe my aunt had a 910 Maxima at one point...)
-
"Other" Datsuns...
Haha, an 810 is cool but I'm aiming for something smaller and more entrenched in the 60s/70s... Actually, my friend drove around a "new" 510 wagon (Sentra or whatever it was)... I was almost envious, but always wondered why it looked crappier than most 510s, one day I learned the truth The 110/1200's looks can't quite compete with the B210's in my mind for pure cheese factor, though I must admit that the fastback looks quite alright A lot of the disdain for the 210 (as I read more) seems to be based on the fact that it wasn't different enough from the 110... Does a 210 amount to an economy focussed 110? I wonder why Datsun never imported their larger, fancier sedans/coupes here... My family was a Datsun family in those days, I think pretty much every one of my aunts, uncles and grandparents had 510s (my dad stuck with Zs ). It's a shame people were turned off by the 610 largely because it wasn't a 510, especially as it seems to have been in terms of engine and suspension... Though I read that the things costed more than a Pinto...
-
"Other" Datsuns...
...aka, not Zs or 510s, or Fairlady roadsters. I'm talking B210s, 710s, 610s, F10s... Those which were known as Sunnies, Cherries elsewhere... Possibly 410s, which I used to think looked dowdy as hell but grew on me when people kept saying they looked like Alfas. Nissan seems to have made the first "good" Japanese cars with the Z and the 510, but what is the regard of the models made alongside/before those? I suppose the combination of uniqueness and fuel economy allures, is there any engineering prowess to go along? As much as I'd love to have an old Skyline, Laurel or Cedric/Gloria, they're pretty much made of unobtainium here so The 610 is the one that piques my interest most because it's so damn gorgeous, and has IRS, RWD, and has the L series engine... lots of 510 DNA in general in a swishy body, the 710 seems to be a different car entirely from what I read, and was never as good in the US. The B210 just LOOKS so... gas crisisy in a wonderful way, so remarkably overdone that I can't help but want one, though from what I've read they weren't particularly known for being great cars... An F10 seems to be something apart from exciting, though as I read about the car it intrigues... Not having been born in the era my knowledge of even popular conceptions of these cars is limited They come up cheap, and with my expected financial windfall I want to get into something semi practical (aka holds more people than the Z, gets something like 30mpg)... ... I'm just afraid I might buy a 610 on spot if I ever see one  (which I may never have, actually so I'll be in luck, ). Is there a real reason no one's interest for them matches the 510s? Not all of them were as knock kneed as this one, so why did they all get buried in junkyards? ...even looks good as a near beater...

Iacoski Z Design Study Hits The Intarwebs
...As I said before, the greenhouse being so upright makes the car look like an Eastern Bloc rip off of itself, like one of the new Ladas that keeps the mid section of the car from the 70s, and adds cheesy "modern" headlamps and rounds off the edges, etc. I still like the grille... If I saw it in real life (with those cartoony proportions it couldn't happen) it would definitely be the most ridiculous looking Z ever.
