Ok I have cleaned the turn signal switch, Repaired burnt wires, and spent many hours under the hood and such.. I went from not having any turn signals to it blinks once and blows the fuse. I am at wits end if anyone can help with this issue please do before I go nuts. I am looking into a new steering column for it as well as hoping someone can tell me where to get a wiring harness for my car... built in 1982 but the title says a 83 280zx non turbo , N/A , Standard tranny 5 speed. The engine is sound and so is the transmission needs trim and such but this is why she is my project car.

Ok guys now I just talked to my dad and no I didn't tell him about the speedo thing. But I made him a deal and I get to keep her for my own if I find a Z that is automatic and guess what I did so I get to keep the car. and thanks guys for helping and picking fun at me you can pick all you want but only one man gets to poke roflmfao.....

HaHaHa you guys. and it wasn't a glass orb but a crystal egg. And it ended up with a hairline crack in it. At least I have been working on the car and will be retuning it in better shape than dad left it. I just need this piece. And was coming here first cause i thought someone would know where to find one and help. I will be having her repainted before he gets back and a new dash installed. I just really didn't want to spend a lot on this part for everything else that I will be spending on it for him. Sorry to rant just this is my dad's car and I broke something and reallywasn't planning on spending money on a part that could have been repaired just doing some fix the car up kind of thing for him cause I know that he was going to sell one of his z cars was hoping that he would keep this one and sell the other. And if I worked hard enough then maybe he would sell the other to me as a project car.

Here goes..... I am just a driver to an 1983 280zx 5 speed N/A T top (Dad's car). While he is out of state I have the honor of keeping his car yeeeaaaahhh for me. At first I though omg I am not driving that thing it needs a paint job has red interior and a door panel on the drivers side. Well I decided to drive the car (Which I have named Zippy) and well as ugly as she is I can't help to find a reason to go go go go. My husband kept saying I thought that you wouldn't drive it. Now I have been working on her tracing down burnt out wires and all just to find a short in the turn signals. Nope no luck yet but I spent easy 3 hours a day working on her. And nope I don't do things like that either I have a saying when it comes to working on cars "Mechanics need to feed their families too" "I am not touching that it is nasty wash it first and then take it to the shop" so no I am not one that you would find under the hood of a car. Zippy is ugly now but runs like a champ and handles like a dream. Dad had replaced all the vacuum lines and worked on her. I really don't want to give her back when he gets back into Texas but guess I will have to. :cry: See my car is in the shop and her name is Baby. She is a 1995 Pontiac Bonneville and ohhhh how I love her. I use to race her and well that cost me since she is not supercharged . I will be getting her back soon and well I don't just want Baby (family car) I want Zippy too. And yes I am that kind of person to name cars just a habit this way you know what car I am talking about and how much I like it. My husbands truck (nice to look at) Bertha the bawd A$$ B!tch (92 Chevy Silverado EXT cab step side)well you can see how I like that thing. I don't that is ok so long as I don't have to drive her that is fine he loves her. Yep that is his other woman. . See that truck every time I drive her she will break down or throw a spark plug or something but he can go everywhere and no problems. :stupid::stupid: Well now you know why I said I am just a driver for now. I am hoping to get Zippy or at least get my own Z and have fun with a project car and oh yeah I really like the 5 speed and t tops and want to find one of my own or talk dad out of his. He has two maybe I can get the other one???? Well I can hope cause I would be under the hood working on her and have friends that can teach me to paint her and work on her. I don't know much but will learn. See I am a bartender and housewife so I have time and the friends I am talking about well they are regular customer's at the bar. They are mechanics , paint and body guys and car nuts. Hell they want to help me with my dad's car they are like can I drive it? Let me drive next. She is a WIP and they see her for what she use to be and can be not for her state now. And Yeah I do try to race her.... No way in hell will i let a mustang pass me oh hell no. But that is me. And yeah I will be looking into putting a turbo on her for dad either way. Maybe if he sees that I really like the car he will let me have her even if I have to buy her. He gave my brothers cars when they hit 15 me I got a Honda elite scooter. Ok I have been working on my dad's 83 280zx 5 speed non turbo. Well lets say Zippy has a short somewhere and the turn signals don't work (taking her to a shop to get that worked out). Either way in the process of tracing it down and repairing many burnt out wires I had to take out the dash and well I took out the Analog Speedometer cluster and my 3 year old well he broke the tachometer and the fuel needles off of it and well finished off the Speedometer as well. The speedometer didn't work any way but now it is really broken. I really don't want my dad to see it when he gets back like it is now..... So what I am really saying is I need to find a Gage cluster for not too much money. So If any one has one or knows where I can find one please let me know. I am having the wiring fixed so it can be registered and inspected in Texas since his came from out of state. Dad was kind enough to let me drive her while he was out of state while my 95 Pontiac Bonneville is in the shop. Another story but I really want to find one so that he can see that I love this car too (and maybe when he gets ready to get rid of Zippy well he will let me have her or sell her to me). Thought I wouldn't but I do she is so much fun to drive.

I have replaced all burned out wires and still no turn signals. Well I say no turn signals they will flash once and burn out the fuse. And I have noticed that all the cars lights flash All Of Them Inside and out. Giving up and taking her to a mechanic and that is that It is too hard for me to trace a wire when my husband is at work and chase down my 3 year old too. I gave it as much time as I could just getting too frustrated with it right now. And as of today I haven't taken her to my friends house so that he can help me but really dont have the time to do that.

OK I found some burnt wires and repaired them. Taking her to one of the guys that come to my bar to help me trace down the short. I have been spending at least 3 hours a day tracing wires down and repairing the ones that shorted out. I have gotten from the back to of the car to the fuse box. Now I will be going from the fuse box forward. Now for the dash and Fire wall. But that will be next week. Have another regular that will teach me to paint her and do custom fiberglass work on the inside. As I do more to her check my myspace page to see my progress. Thank you guys for the advice I have checked all that was told to me but I have come to the conclusion that it is a wire that is shorting out. At least that is what Dwane said and he has a FSM on her he use to be a mechanic and will be the one tracing the short in the front of the car early next week.

The relay is not clicking when I operate the switch. And the Emergency Flashers keep blowing the fuse. the mystery wire that I have no clue what it is is attached to the yellow with black stripe.

Yeah that is the one I found with out a problem and changed. When I say without a problem I well took the t's off and put my feet up in the air and head in the floor board. Thought i would get stuck a few times but i couldn't see anything else undone and that is when I found that Relay. But I did notice that the relay clicks when the car chimes that the keys are in and when it says that the lights are on. I have been having trouble getting my photos of the car uploaded here so i loaded them in my my space. www.myspace.com/liquid_candycane. No I forgot to take photos of the engine and I will and get them posted too. But I have a mystery wire in mix of it all. Not sure where this repair came from but not worried about it now I have unplugged it and it didn't do anything and so I plugged it back in. The car is mechanically sound I should be able to drive it all over. Just cant cause I need the turn signals here small towns.

Thank you for the information and I will check it when there is daylight. And yes it was the flasher relay that I changed.

Ok I have my fathers 1983 280zx and need to get the turn signals to work now I have changed the Relay on the drivers side. And went all through the car tracing wires from the back. They all look good. Now the hazards work but I can't get the turn signals to work. Please help I don't know what to do. My husband thinks it is funny when I am working on cars but I want to do it my self. He sits with me and rally just watches. Now I will be getting in the repair manual tomorrow but not sure it will cover this repair.:stupid:
