So, i got under my car, took a look-see and i found a few rusted out holes in my exhaust piping. Rather than deal with a bad sounding car when it COULD be so beastly i'm planning on replacing the whole exhaust system. However, i've spent the better part of the day trying to find some places to buy off the internet and haven't found ANYTHING. I'm really hoping someone else has done the research in here and can link me to the sites i need. Black dragon and thezstore.com weren't much help =/

I got back under my car and the U-joints all had a thin layer of rust on them. I know the actual U-joint is only $10-15 each, but how expensive is it to have a shop replace them for you?

I got under my car the other day and the first thing i noticed is that my differential was caked with oil, new and old. Would all this oil being on the OUTSIDE of the differential as opposed to being inside where it belongs cause a "Clunk"?

haha, nice one Mr Camouflage. I was thinking i was just going to end up getting an entire new exhaust system, headers included. i figure, $400 to give my Z a nice burly sound, well worth it. I would do the exhaust putty idea but the loss of power isn't a big enough deal to me to justify it. And no, curtis 240z, My family motto is something like, "If you can't do it yourself go figure it out." and the only reason for something to not be a DIY project is if you either don't have the time or you've run out of duct tape =P But with this one i'm thinking i'm going to order the new exhaust and claim the "Not enough time excuse." You guys have been a ton of help, i'll have to repost after i get the parts and let you know how it went.

How feasible is it to buy a new door shell without all the components and swapping my old components into it?

haha, i wasn't sure the dish soap/water solution would do it. It worked wonders ony my bike tire tubes but i didn't have the same faith that it would work on my engine. I'm definitely going to have to try this tonight. Thanks for the input =D

I could smell some fumes coming from somehwere in this area, but i wasn't able pinpoint them. is there a better way to find the exit point besides just feeling around, my fan pushes a lot of air back so it's hard to find any small leaks.

Assuming i do find a leak with fumes coming out, what do i do from there? I won't be able to pop the hood until tomorrow when i can get some light on it =/

When i'm accelerating in my 1979 280zx it sounds like one of my cylinders is firing hard and this sound increases with my RPM's. Sounds a lot like that "Put-Put" sound the cars make in the old cartoons. Is there any remedies for this? i want to get this taken care of before i get an exhaust system that only amplifies the "Put-Put" =P

Hey guys, my name is J.J. I bought my Z when i was 17 and my Lincoln continental was totalled. I took the 2 grand from that, bought myself a 1979 280zx i saw in the paper for $1000 and then spent the other $1000 plus my entire savings fixing it up. I've never looked back. It now runs like a champ except for a few clunks in the rear when i shift and accelerate, but i'm looking into that thanks to all the information on this site I've been fixing my car up myself so be looking for me in the Car Tech forum because i'll probably be needing some advice =P
