  1. I did the alternator upgrade on my 1971 240z which eliminates the Voltage Regulator. The upgrade is on this site from Bambikiller and is posted on another site with pictures. The problem, with the Light switch on I have no side lights or brake lights until the motor is running. Yes I did the Headlight Switch cleanout procedure and its beautiful in there now. Any ideas??
  2. Do you have any pics of the center caps you bought. I need to get some for my Cal 500s. I was polishing them last night and I was able to get a fairly decent shine with Mequires and Eagle One polish..

I got it to line up. I had to turn the differential mount insulator around so the little F marked on it is pointing to the back of the car. I kept the bolts pointing up and took the strap off for clearance. Now I just need a later driveshaft as the one from my 71 is short by a inch or two or three. By the way I have the moustach bar with the stenciled part number on the right side facing the front of the vehicle if anyone is unsure which way it goes for this mod. I had it turned around and it puts the diff too far back.

Do you have any pictures of the completed upgrade? Specifically the Moustach bar and how it is oriented and the bolts for the diff mount insulator. I noticed it will be a tight squeeze between the bolts for the diff mount and the Strap. I saw somewhere that you need to put the bolts going down instead of up to clear the strap.

So I have a 71 240 and am doing the R200 Differential Swap. Fun stuff. I have the newer curved Moustach bar with the bushings facing forward. The question I have is do I need to turn the Diff Mount around to get the extra length so the cross member will line up? Also what is the little weather van thing attached to the top of the cross member.
  6. I was thinking of going with them or MSA. Anyone have any opinions. Also I need to rebuild my 71 su's. Should I get a rebuild kit from Z Therapy or let them do it?
  7. I have my 1983 F54 block recently bored .20 over. Who would be the best source for new pistons, head gasket, main bearings, oil seals etc.. Black Dragon has a good price on a set of pistons and piston rings but I am wondering if these are chinese crap or not.
  8. I acquired a complete F54 block P79 1983 280zx motor. It did have a blown head gasket and here is my question. After removing the top end and looking at the existing head gasket and the coolant passageways. It seems to me that the wrong head gasket might have been used by previous owner or mechanic. Some of the openings for coolant flow were blocked off by this head gasket. Is this normal? I'll post a picture soon but on the gasket itself you can see where coolant was going to the gasket but not through to the other side. Has anyone else noticed this?
  9. Can you use a Borg Warner T5 5 speed from a 300zx in a early model 1971 240Z? I have searched but have found any info saying what differences are between the 81-83 Borg Warner T5 and the ones from 300zx's. Is it doable? I have read the zgarage procedure and it doesn't mention the later versions of the bwt5.

Awesome thanks for the info. Now how hard will it be to replace this wire from the fusebox to the engine area. Correct me if I am wrong but shouldn't fusable links be visible enough to see if it is open versus covered with heat shrink or black tape? Is the ACC short for Accessories?

I have a 1971 240z. When I was looking at the car the previous owner mentioned connecting the battery up backwards well. After trying to figure out why the battery was draining within 30 minutes. I took out the aftermarket junk radio from the 70s and it was splice city. I was thinking that if it was connected directly to the battery it might be the culprit. However once the radio was out I noticed this. The main white red stripe wire melted beyond regonition. It is ok at the fuse box but after that its melted. In looking at the schematics, they show a white lead coming from the starter. Mine was blue, but after taking the black tape off this is what I found. My question about the starter wire is. Where does this wire go to? Is this the white wire with the red stripe that goes from the alternator to the voltage regulator to the Fusebox? It doesn't look to have a red stripe but it could be burnt off. Is this all the same wire? Also is this the Voltage Regulator? Ed
