Ebay Engines
I see these motors listed all the time. The ads always mention that the work is completed and warranted by a shop in Riverside, Ca. Anyone know which shop this is? I tried to get the info out of him by emailing his ebay site--but the response was--this information is only given out after purchase.

Z Specialties Brake upgrade kits
Has anyone replaced their stock brakes with a Z Specialties 4-piston caliper brake upgrade kit? Is it similar to the one listed on MSA's site? http://http://www.datsunstore.com/product_info.php/cPath/8_133/products_id/17 Thanks, Rich

My dash cracked!!!
There's also Dashboard Restorations USA in southern Washington. They follow the same process as Just Dashes--total cost about $850. My dash is there right now. Dash caps are great for a few years--until they begin to warp on you...been there, done that... Rich http://www.dashboardrestorations.com/

Grassroots Motorsports 240Z Project Car for sale
Did anyone else see this in the for sale post by Tim Suddard? The cracked block was never mentioned in Classic/Grassroots motor build articles. I wonder if the block cracked before or after the L24 rebuild article? Rich Let me put in a plug for Classic Motorsports- a great magazine! The one magazine that gets read cover to cover in my house.

Center Console Pad?
Rich I had one of these arm rests on my 72 z. I agree it is was very comfortable--as it sat higher than the other available armrests. Does yours mount on the inside of the console? Mine did--and too much pressure applied to the armrest caused the screws to strip. I ordered a new one from MSA, thinking it would be the same model. It's not--it mounts to the backside of the console. I am going to give the MSA one a try when my console returns from Dashboard Restoration in Washington. Rich

Grassroots Motorsports 240Z Project Car for sale
I became a subscriber to Classic Motorsports to follow the build of this car! If I wasn't already in the midst of the restoration process with my own Z-- this would be the one I'd like to put in my garage. Here is some additonal info I have received from corresponding with Tim this year: The Noltec Softride Poly bushings that are mentioned as worthless in the online article have been replaced with new factory rubber bushings. The zx 5-speed transmission is paired with a 3.54 differential. (This may not be the pairing most enthusiasts would recommend for spirited/ mountain driving--but then again, Florida doesn't offer much in the way of hill climbs...) Rich

Engine builder
Check with Dave at Rebello on shipping. He can have the motor picked up and delivered for you. He quoted me $150 from southern Cal--from Vegas might not be much more. Another option is Classic Datsun in Vista. Give Les a call--his shop builds a lot of motors. What motor are your currently running? L24? L28?

Poly bushing : Not worth it ?
Here is a rubber bushing source (Z car source) http://www.zcarsource.com/content/p/9/pid/48726/catid/7478/OEM_Rubber_Bushing_Kit__70_74___new Price is quite a bit more than poly $354.

Refurbishing heater blower
Does anyone have advice on refurbishing a 240z heater box? Are there replacement parts available for the foam seals/gaskets? Thanks

Dash wiring harness/ What is this?
Thanks for the input everyone! Ken-- Total cost for redoing the dash is $850. I'm also having them do the console for $195.

Dash wiring harness/ What is this?
In order to ship my cracked dash to Dashboard Restorations I had to remove the wiring harness. I tagged and labeled everything—until I came across this…. Does anyone know what this device is and where it goes? It is attached to the driver's side of the dash wiring harness.

Difference between '70/'71 and '72 Cylinder Head
Exactly when was the '73 cylinder head introduced? Was it introduced during the final months of the 72 cars or did it make an appearance after the beginning of the 73 model year?

920 Gold
John.. I am finding the same issues matching my orange Z. The car is at the body shop now. It looks like we may be using the tool lid to match the color--as the exterior is not actually 918. The outside of my Z was repainted orange in 1984--and I had always assumed it was a close match to the original color. It wasn't until I removed the quarter windows--and found the original paint beneath them--that I realized that the '84 paint job was quite a bit off! What difference does a 2 stage (base/clear) have on the final appearance? Does the clear make the color deeper? Is there more shine? Or is the clear merely a protective coating?

5 speed with 3.54 rear gears
Thanks for the insights.. Adam--thanks for the correction on the moustache bar. Kenny-thanks for the info on the truck diff swap--which looks easier than a R200 swap. Anyone know how much is lost in off the line acceleration between running 3.54 and a 3.9? For those running an R200 diff, do you have an handling issues--like the ones mentioned on John Coffey's Betamotorport's site? Rich

5 speed with 3.54 rear gears
It appears that a lot of 240z are now running an 81-83zx transmission with 3.9 or 4.11 gearing. I was looking at doing this as well--until I came across the May 2008 Classic Motorsports article on their 240z drivetrain swap. They used a 81-83zx 5speed transmission with 3.54 gearing. There appears to be some advantages to this appoach: 1. It looks like a straight swap--it's an R180 (instead of R200), so you wouldn't need the Zx mustache bar, etc 2. Lighter weight differential I realize that the R200 is a stonger differential--I will be running a rebuilt/ lightly modified L24 motor. Is anybody on the Z boards running a 3.54 diff? Thanks..

My dad filled the dance card & Fairfax meet with a visit from Hiro
Congrats on the new addition to the family! What a great looking car. Are you sure the collection is complete???--Your dad could still collect one of each color...

Non Z. My rides. five&dime
Your photography continues to amaze. It was your photos of your dad's lime-green 72 and your great looking 510 that initially drew me to this internet club. Keep the pictures coming! What color orange is that 510???

Thar she goes..
Thanks Arne.. That was thread that started it for me. I thought I was doomed to live with a leaky sunroof until I came across your posts. I forwarded the thread to my body shop. We have discussed the process already--but having extra pictures of the steps never hurts.

Thar she goes..
Thanks for the compliments. The car looks better in the photo than it does in real life. There's a good deal of rocker rust, floorboard rust (that's what was lurking beneath the beloved tar-mat) and a badly eaten hatch threshold---in other words, the usual...

Ebay....what parts can be trusted for my 240Z?
I did find a trustworthy Ebay vendor in Motorsportsdirect. They have great pricing on Tokicio products (HP or Illumina). Many of their products offer free shipping.

Thar she goes..
The image you are about to see is true-- This is not some slight of hand--or some trick with mirrors or light-- After 10 years my 72 240Z has finally left the garage for the paint and body shop. The sunroof is coming out and being replaced with a new roof panel--thanks ARNE for the inspiration/ and proving it could be done. Thanks to GUY for his encouragement and advice. The car will be primed and repainted 918 and returned in late November. What will I do with all that extra space in the garage until then?...

What to replace in the steering system
Thanks for the replies. Should the wheel bearings be replaced? The car has been sitting for nearly 10 years.

What to replace in the steering system
Finally, my 72 240 has left my garage for the paint & body shop. While there, it will be stripped of its suspension and steering components. I know what I will be replaced in the suspension---but I haven't given much thought to the steering system yet. My question is--what can I expect to replace (or should be replaced) in the steering system? The only steering parts purchased so far are a new coupler and rack bushings. Thanks
