Undercoating wheel wells
My car is in the process of being painted. The underside has recieved undercoat (colored to match the 918 paint). The front wheel wells have not received any undercoating-- I am asking for trouble by just leaving these sections painted only?

Z Music
Here's a great often overlooked band--The Faces You can bet their boxed set "Five Guys Walk into a Bar" will be playing in my Z when I finally get it done... It's music from 1970-73--the 240 years!

What trim goes in while the windshield is out?
Looks like things are wrapping up at the body shop--my car will be completely painted by next week! I'm wondering what interior trim pieces should be installed before the windshield and doors go back on the car. The headliner? Any other vinyl trim? Thanks

What engine would you choose?
What year is this hypothetical car? The year makes all the difference to me. I know I'd personally put the L24 back in it if it was 1970 model. I've been going through a similar dilemma...with my 72 240z... My rational self says rebuild the L24....but my darker side says-- it's a 1972 model...store that L24 and put an L28 in it already!

Online Z Car registry
You are right--this is incorrect. The 73 cars do not show up until September of that year. My build date is after yours (August)--and it's still listed as an 72 model.

building up your L24 ?? wishlist creation help
Are you looking to rebuild? If you want to rebuild--you may want to talk with Dave at Rebello--although their website does not mention it--they 'refresh' a lot of L24 motors. He claims that he can get 180 out of an L24 without going the 2.7 ITS motor route. http://www.rebelloracing.com/index.htm You might also want to take a look at the November 2007 issue of Classic Motorsports--they did a L24 rebuild. A condensed version is still on their webite at http://classicmotorsports.net/project-cars/1970-datsun-240z/datsun-recieves-new-heart/

More interior rebuild stuff...
The 'after' shots of the blower box look great! How did you prepare it for paint--and what paint did you use? How did you fabricate those foam pieces?

Rear Transverse Link Mount
It's actually in 3 pieces. Only the bolts were keeping it in place. I guess I know what that 'clunking' sound was in the back of my Z....

Rear Transverse Link Mount
MY body shop removed this rusted and busted piece from my 72 Z. Is this the rear transverse link mount? What year should I replace it with to accomodate an R200 differential? Thanks

Eibachs and Rota RB (16s)
Great look! Well done, Adam. What tire size did you end up going with?

Recent Just Dashes or Dashboard Restorations Experiences?
My dash is there as well. Sorry to hear about your experience. Rob Fuller of Z Car garage uses them and recommends them highly. I'm hoping for the best, but it is taking longer than I thought it would. Rich

Right you are Arne! This kit does include spindle pins--and some misc. pieces--but the price is still too dear...

Door panels
It sounds like you need more than just the skins. The whole panels can be harder to come by. Check with Charlie at Zeddfindings--that's where I got mine from. http://datsunzparts.com/

Motorsport Auto's 2010 West Coast Nationals
Let's hope it's a go! I was thinking my Z would be ready for this year's event--but it's looking more like 2011. I brought my daughter to last year's Motorsport Z fest and the only thing she enjoyed was the carnival-like swing ride. Here's to dragging her there in 2010!

I concur. Les is a great guy. I have bought many parts for my restoration from him. Even though he is a busy guy, he always makes time for you.

Manufacturing Door Panels
Interesting idea Justin. I got my door panels from Zeddfindings--http://datsunzparts.com/ Charlie is great to deal with, his panels are OEM--and are fairly priced. Rich

heater control panel
Geezer- I knew I'd seen that panel before-- I'm the one that bought it. It is in great shape. taaroa477 (Redding, CA) looks to be a great vendor--it arrived so carefully packaged that it looked like a mummy. Rich Just for reference--I was out bid on one a few months ago that went for $189.00 and it had the maplight with it. A map light with surround just sold 43.40.

Inner fender and cowl rubber cushions
Are these the cushions you are referring to? (See the picture below). It looks like it might be best to replace them with closed cell foam. See this link: http://http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36657&highlight=fender+foam The inner fender rubber (long rubber strip) is available from Motorport Auto for $21.95 a side. Early 240z
The series 1 cars are currently more collectable. Keep in mind that the later series cars did include some improvements over the earlier models. For example the mounting point for the differential was relocated and the speedomoter was changed to start at "0" instead of 20mph. With that said... a 72 Z might be the most "refined" of the 240z cars. But then again...I may be a tad biased...I own one. Now if it only had that E31 head....
