How would you build a DSP AUTO-X Z
Thought i might get involved with this thread.Vic's car was a 73 because that is what was availible,my car (fp champ car 85,87,88) was a 73 because it was my street car,(caught on fire alt short). If i were to construct a first rate BSP Z i would start with the lightest chassis possible. The reason being horsepower to weight ratio. The chassis stiffness is of very little consequence because both chassis flex and the rules do not allow enough cage to make up for it With the horsepower so limited weight is everything. suspension tuning can make up for chassis differences. BTW Vic's car did not have carpet door panels, and i far as i knew (which i did ask bluntly his car was to the limit of the rules) if anyone has any questions i be glad to answer. Andy Craig

Any Racers recognize this 240-Z?
RX Sleeper, That was another car which had Dando's help in being assembled.Mike Scotts orignial car was totaled and Mike bought that car through Ricky Hines(old time famous S.F. area autocrosser).Mike tore down his old car and took the good parts off and we constructed the new car for him. That paint job was done because Mike wanted to be different. It was dayglow yellow with black checkers of shelf paper. We got about half way through applying the checkers and Mike wondered what he got himself into.I mentioned that if he wrecked he would have to duplicate the checker pattern again(uugg!).Most parts on the car are of Dando's origin, that why he ran the stickers( i helped a little by giving him good deals on stuff).Mike stopped racing i think due to work and i lost track of him.The car always ran goos and i think he even won a race back in the day.Winning a race then was an accomplishment because we would have over 20 Z's racing in I.T.S..If you want more info you can e mail me andydando@sbcglobal.net Andydando

Red Eye, That is Bruce Frederick's car which we put together at Dando's back in hte day. It does have a chromemoly cage.We put it together so it would be the lightest i.t. chassis you could build.Bruce ran the car in regional events and it was wrecked once and was back halved by California Collision (excellent job, Bob Carter) and put back together with probably a stoger chassis. If you have any questions give me a e-mail @ andydando@sbcglobal.net Andy Craig former owner Dando's FP Champ 85'87'88 PCRRC ITS Champ 92'96

Mikuni Bog
fp280Z Try going to a 40 or 45 pilot jet, then readjust your idle mixture screws for proper idle.I had this problem also when i was racing FP. I also would not count out adjusting the cam. With the size of your cam i would consider what type of track you race most ,then make the proper adjustment,ie... advance the cam for short tight tracks, retard the cam for long high speed (auto x speed) tracks. Andy Craig FP Champ 85,87,88 BSP 98 p.s. first time i posted on this site. p.s.s. you need stiffer spring and better shocks to go faster(saw your pics on spokes)

Pertronix question
Xray When we were racing we found that the Pertronix operated best with 12 volts directly to the unit and the ballast resistor bypassed.I would also recommend replacement of the coil with a pertronix unit.Use should check out the play in your distributor shaft as this would cause an air gap problem(only if real bad).Make sure you don't use cheesy connections to the Pertronix and check your plug wires, particularly the boots around the coil terminal as it could short causing all these problems (check for little white marks on the boot or any cracks).
