What fuel pump ??
I'm putting the cylinder head & fuel injection from a '78 280 on a '72 240 block. I forgot to pull the fuel pump and damper off the parts car before it went to the crusher. Do you have a suggestion for an after- market pump ? Brand? And where do i get a damper - anybody have one for me? Thanks all !! - Jeff

Injection problem ?
Sean Dezart - Your friend needs to find out which temp. sensor tells the computer what temp. the engine is. Sounds to me that the sensor is reading low - and yes that would tell the computer that it needs to supply more gas to warm up the engine. If that is what is happening then that would explain the increase in emissons. Try disconecting the cold start injector and see if milage increases. The temp. sensor involved is probably located on the thermostat housing. (not the one to the guage ). I hope i helped. let me know how it went. - Jeff

The heck is this?

Fuel injected 240Z
2ManyZs -- Perfect explaination - I sorta thought it worked that way - I understand about the fuel 'pulse' from the pump, even though it is a DC motor. If I can find a fuel pump that does not produce a pulse do i need the damper? Or is'nt there such a pump. Thanks for your input! - Jeff

Fuel injected 240Z
Thanks Steve !! I'll look around and see what i can find to put out 35 - 40 psi - The 280Z 'owners manual' shows the locations of alot of underhood parts. One pic. shows the fuel pump ( near the tank ) and next to the pump is a thing they call a "fuel damper" --- Do you know what that is for?? And do i need one? - Jeff

Fuel injected 240Z
Thanks steve ! I plan on putting the 280 FI on from the parts car i bought. I am bolting that N47 head on the 240 block ( because i already remanufactured the 240 block ) the 240 block is bored .030, TRW pistons & shotpeened rods. Do you have any objection to the N47 head on this 240 block? The car will be for street use only. What i realy need to know is the PSI the injectors are supposed to run at, And will the fuel pressure regulator adjust for any fuel pump i put on -- providing i put one on that puts out more pressure than the injectors need to see.

difference in rear ends?
The R200 is a stronger rear end than the R180. R200's came stock in later model Z's. I'm not sure what year they started getting them but I am sure it came stock in '78. I think the differance is the ring gear diameter is larger on the R200 - making it stronger. *** If anyone has differant info then please correct me. *** - Jeff

Your Best (and worst) COP Stories
My cousion and I were next to each other at a light- it's dusk. I'm driving my '76 280Z,he is driving a '71 nova(one wheel peel). We were so engrossed with the anticipation of our launch we did not see that an officer was the 1st car at the cross street. The light turns green and we hit it hard - both spinning to beat the band. Ofcorse the officer pulls out our way - lights flashing. I pull over on the shoulder and SHE pulls up to my window. She says"don't move,I'm going to go get your buddy!!" I find out later that he stopped less than 1/2 mile up for gas. She wrote both of us for wreakless driving. Court date for him is 1 day before mine - Judge YELLS at him for dragracing in"HIS TOWN" - he gets full fine ($175) and all the points (6). When i show up in the same Judge's courtroom the next day- He wants to know "where have i seen your last name before? "cousion was in here yesterday- same ticket. He lets me off with careless driving - (1/2 as much of each) -Jeff

Puting 280 FI on 240 head!!
Thanks for all of your help guys -- I just finished removing the wiring that i need to put the 280 head in the 240 block. Now to referbish the head and get the Z back from the print booth!!! I think i will be satisfied with the throttle responce and reliabilty of the FI & electronic egnition, don't you? - Jeff

Puting 280 FI on 240 head!!
2ManyZ's - Machining the port injection clearance in the 240 head would be easy for me to do (I am a machinest - cylinder head mold maker). But as you mentioned the posible trouble with the water jacket, I don't think I'll try it - just refresh the 280 (N47) head and mill it to match the dome height with my 240 head. If you think of any other conserns or benifits then let me know. Thanks for your input already. - Jeff

Puting 280 FI on 240 head!!
2ManyZ's -- the reason that I would put the FI on the 240 head is because of all the work I already did to it. I milled it .020 and did the cam bearings and a 3 angle valve job with new valves and valve guides and valve guide seals. BUT... if I can get the same compression from the 280 head i will do that. I was under the impression that the combustion chamber diameter at the block face would be to large. If I mill the 280 head down to the same combustion chamber depth would that reduce the dia. at the head face? Isn't there more volume in the 280 combustion chamber? milling the head face wuold reduce the volume, is that the way to get the compression equal or more than the 240 head?? my 30 year old carbs need lots of TLC. then I still do not have the responce and reliabilty of the FI. If you had the parts in your garage wouldn't you make the change?? The wiring is not a problem for me. -- Jeff

fuel pump not sucking?
James - No pump COULD be part of the problem!:classic: ROFL - Jeff

fuel pump not sucking?
You can also feed cleaner backwards though the hose that is connected to the inlet side of the fuel filter with a oiling can or the like. - Jeff

fuel pump not sucking?
I just went through this very thing yesterday!!! Take the fuel line off at the fuel rail- turn the ignition to run ( do not crank ). put your thumb over the hose - there should be air pressure.( yes AIR pressure if the pump is working ) if this is the case then take the fuel line off the tank and be sure it is not cloged. If it is not cloged then stick it in a can of gas. The pump does not need to be primed. If your pump pumps gas out of the disconnected hose then the problem is in the tank pick-up hose, as mine was. thankfully I do not need that tank!! Hope I helped. - Jeff
