  1. Well, it looks like the L24 engine will pretty much last quite awhile if tuned on a regular bassis. Sounds good to me!
  2. I was wondering how many miles can a 1970 240z engine can last. Who know this answer? I'm thinking it can last about 150,000 - 200,000 miles not being abused. Is this about right? Thank you!

Do your homework is a very good idea. Talking to people that know this car really helped me on what to look for and how much to pay. I'm going to see a 1974 260z on monday and I'm going to take a digital cammera and then let some people that I met on this site look and judge the car for me. The guy that's selling the car is really firm on $4000.00 U.S. and it better be in exllent condit. for that price. Well see. Taking your time on buying things is the key for a good buy, unless you absolutly know for a fact it's a awsome buy for the price.

I like it, now I just have to get the person with the car to pass it for me on the sale. Ohh well, one herdle down many to go. Now everyone get that smog junk off there car. I wonder what the performance gain would be?

http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/StdPage.asp?Body=/GenInfo/OtherInfo/Frequently_Asked_Questions_Part_1.htm It's the 8th. question down. Would I see any performance gain if I got rid of the smog crap on the engine?

Yes, the nice laddy at the Bureau of Automotive Repair told me this. It was kinda funny how I found out, I called them on there 1-800 number and at the same time I went on there web site to see if I could answer my own question and as soon as she picked-up the phone I found it under the general questions about the smog rules. So for every year that goes by a year gets knocked off untill the state wants to change the rules again. Very good news for the 1974 and earlier Z's. So rev up your engines and get rid of those smog crap that's on those engines. As of Jan. 1st. though! Does anyone have any sound files of the 240 or 260 engine on? I would love to hear those sounds on my computer. Thank you!

Whats the cost on doing the carb swap? Where to buy?
  9. If anyone knows where there's any files at please let me know. I just wanted to hear this car run, can't wait unitill monday when I'll go check out the real thing. Datsun 260z in mint condition and it's original. Smog exempt next year, cool! Bye, bye smog crap on the engine.

Good news, the 1974 Datsun 260z will be exempt next year, on Jan. 1, 2003 it will no longer be nessary to smog it for the state of Calif. I just have to make sure it will pass this year and that's it. As soon as it passes I'm going to take most of the smog crap off, let me have all the horsepower that it can provide.:classic:

Ohh well, I guess this car was not ment to be. Calif. has some tuff smog issues. I'll just keep a eye out for a 240z in the future. Wow, missed it by one year, that's stinks! I wonder when Calif. will make it 74' and older? Maybe I should check with the state on this.

I'm going to call some smog places around town and the DMV to see what year is smogged exempt. There's no subsitute for doing your homework, right? Thank you!

It's a 2 seater and yes I have to agree with you it's a better looking car than the 2+2. Hmm, do the original carbs have any other problems besides not being able to smog? I think the car is now smogged exampt, right? (The state is CA.) Ohh, so the L26 engine does'nt like the unleaded fuel, correct?

How much should I offer to this person that has this car? I was thinking about $2000 - $3000 for it.

Hi, I have a opertunity to purchase a 1974 Nissan / Datson 260z 2 - door in excellent condition. Is there a downside to this version of the z? I heard some talk about the carbs used with this engine limits the horse power plus they don't really work well. Is this true? Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
