Ipod options
Hmm If you do not smoke a standard I pod fits just right in the ashtray. you could put the stereo in the glove box (out of sight). Country music degrades the engine and handeling performace of s30s I would suggest heavy metal or at least some zepplin.

Suspension is next future planning
Hmm, I am wondering what the down side to cutting a coil off of the springs. It will be awhile before I start on this so I have some time to decide.

side moldings on '77 280z
Nice looking car. Looks like you dont need a repaint to me. I am not a fan of the side molding so I left mine of when I painted my car (I had the holes also.), But If my car was in that condition I would have but them back on at least till I had a fender bender or failing paint.

Locked out of my glovebox
I am with Unkle only that there is no reason to damage it more by drilling it out.

Thanks for you're input Arne, So the KYBs are looking like they may be my choice (on the list anyhow). For the bushings I like the idea of going OEM but I have not found complete bushing set in rubber. I think what I may do for now in jack up the car this weekend and just examine the condition of my car and familiarize myself with it closer in order to see what I am up against. Also I have been eyeing the compression rod socket upgrade but I am not shure if it is needed. I am not interested in lowering my car, but it does sit pretty high and raising it would not be desirable, I have read mixed opinions about cutting springs.

To plug weld, grind and finish that much area and blend in you're current paint would come close to a respray if you hired out the body work. If you wish to restore compleatly at a later time just put replacement trim on to cover the holes untill you have more of an idea of how far you want to go. Can you show pictures of the car? My 2 cents

Thanks, but before I spend money on a DVD I think I will familiarize myself first with the FSM and read up more online including the Atlantic Z tech. I posted to get an idea of what other people's experience are on what they have done to restore stock performance. If I feel the need I may order the dvd, moving pictures may help or not, depends on if there is more info in the dvd then elsewhere.

Yes I have read up on the tc rod bushings, so its the rear ones that are pron to damage with poly bushings. So no need for strut boots? that would be a good thing, MSA and black dragon sell them for more than some of the struts. So now on the list is struts, bushings front brake shims (mine are missing) and rear brake components. any other little things grease? spring compressors?

do you want to paint the whole car now? You could just put new side molding on to cover the holes for now.

Suspension is next future planning
Next up for my car is suspension. My Z is a daily driver, Seattle potholes are proving that my suspension is toast. I am not looking to turn my car into a track racer and I will be keeping the original springs, not lowering it. So for now I am writing up a list of what I will need before I start: struts, strut boots (mine are in shreds), bushings. I could go with urethane or rubber or a mix. I know this is a common beginning enquiry, But for now I am just pre planning and making up a shopping list, I figure the more I plan ahead the more money I will save in the long run. Anyhow I figured that my Z when new probably had great handling and suspension to begin with so going stock would be all right. so for starters KYB or Tokico HP? I am sort of in the dark on this one.

Questions on brass casting plugs
I thought they were called freeze plugs because they are designed to pop out if the coolant froze, preventing damage to your engine. Where I grew up Alaska cars would have a heater plug to replace one of them so you could plug you car in at night and keep the engine warm in order to make it easer to start in the morning.

Yet Another Newbie...
Cool, show pics. As for bikes: Moto Guzzi Breva 750 and 1977 Kawasaki KH400 (yes the two stroke triple, halls on a straight road).

dash lights not working
This is true, the running lights are powered from green with white (I missed that fact). I agree the dimmer may be the culpret. Try bypassing it to ground and see if any lights come on.

dash lights not working
I am betting the combo switch or connection from it. The little contacts do tend to corrode. try putting a meter on the green with blue stripe. If you have power there and no power to green with white it's most likely the combo switch. if you have power to both it could be your dimmer which operates off ground I think.

If youre heat does not work look for vacuum leaks.

[2012] What did you do to/with your S30 today?
Gun metal will look awsome. 2 stage?

Sheared bolt.
I have a sheared off bolt also. I will not use an easy out, I will first try a reverse hand drill, I will try peening counter clockwise, use heat and a penetrating lube. I may also weld a nut to the top of the stud. If you do drill and the tapping does not go well you could tap it out larger and use a helicoil.

It seems everyone is looking: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?38875-Door-Window-Squeegee&highlight=window+squeegee I am holding off for a little while on that one, at least untill I hear good news from someone.
