Dash, side and parking lights... out!
My best guess would be your switch has a corroded or loose connection. time to get the meter out and test.

Welding, Metal-Ready and Rust
Also after cleaning, hit it with some weld through primer, It helps prevent youre welds from rusting in the future.

Help with floor pans...
I have had some mixed results with flux welding. I suggest going for mig gas wire feed, especially for someone new to welding. it does not cost that much more, the welds are stronger, cleaner and have better penetration. I would also use replacement pans they should be stronger. Practice welding on scrap steel, sheet metal can be tricky as it warps with heat and you can easily blow through the metal. Settings on you're welder can vary so again use scrap for practice. you will also need other tools, an angle grinder or pnumatic grinder and clamps, ect.

Good to know Jeff. I might try beadblasting in the future. My boss at work has Beadblasted alot of metal for me over the years, Might give it a shot sometime.

There is a 2x2 there? I did not see it when I was there 3 days ago. was it picked through much? Did you find anything you could use? haha

Marker light rubber refresh??
I do not trust Armor-all anymore. I am not sure if the stories are true but I have heard that it tends to dry out rubber and cause it to crack.

Marker light rubber refresh??
You bead blasted the rubber? Anyhow for exterior rubber I have been using "Mothers Back-to-Black". It has worked really good so far, the old bumper rubber on my car looks great. I also used it on the side markers. Time will tell if they stay looking as good.

Funny, it always rains when I go to that pick and pull.

Toasted Clutch?
Are all parts still out of the car? if so it is not a bad idea to have you're flywheel machined, they will pull the alignment pins out and the flywheel will be even across it's surface insuring the proper mounting distance for you're new clutch and pressure plate. this may not be the cause of you're slip-age but considering the time to pull all of these parts it would be good practice. I have a 5 speed that I just changed the clutch on, I was shure not to buy A 2X2 clutch kit, it came with the pressure plate, clutch, throwout bearing, and pilot bushing, works great. Not shure about you're callar as I did not take measurements of mine. hope I am not confusing the situation.

Great day for a drive/pick and pull score
Thanks sblake, that's what I thought. The 77 at the yard actually still had the space saver wheel in the back. what a POS that tire is, think I would rather drive on a flat than that thing. Venus: Ok I understand now, but you're post was... well cryptic? anyhow life is good.

Is what i found worth anything?
Hey the dash looked ok from one pic, and the tail lights. A little bondo and that car is ready to sell!! one thing you gatta love is stainless steel trim!

Great day for a drive/pick and pull score
Darrel, Good to know about the tank. My Z is a 78 the one a the yard was a 77, not shure if they are interchangable. The shifter was gone. Anyhow my car shifts fine after replacing the bushings and fluid. but the gas tank is making me think about a return trip. guess I would need to weld the hole shut :pirate: I have no experience tinning gas tanks.

Great day for a drive/pick and pull score
I might be needing a lot of help from Dave in the near future (need my tax return and catch up on finances but I would like to throw some business his way since he helped me out of a jam). There was one hood vent there but it had broken studs and mine are in good shape actually newly repainted. Anyhow my Z is running great and I am loving life.

Great day for a drive/pick and pull score
Ya, She's great. She actually enjoys going there, helped me pull a lot of the parts and she dropped the gas tank, after some looking over I left it (had a strange plastic plug in the bottom that I am sure would not hold gas). The SU's where there but lots of parts were missing and I have efi not carbs. Anyhow I mostly just wanted parts to finish my car and got most, I was hopping that others might find parts for there's before they are crushed. The 240 was an automatic, it still had the center console and heater vent/radio panel and some other interior parts, both had engines and the 280 had the transmission (might be a 5 speed).

Great day for a drive/pick and pull score
Finally got to drive my 280 around for the first time since painting it. Wow almost forgot how fun it is. Any My girlfriend convinced me to head up to the pick and pull in Lynnwood. We found one 71 240 and a 77 280 and scored most of the parts to finish off the interior of my 78. Also grabbed one door handle from the 240 (should have snagged both) the 240 still had some good parts including a red interior. Both have good hatches.

Rust....uh oh...
Got my doglegs from tabco I remember them being the cheapest. Not the best fit but with care they do work.

Toasted Clutch?
Ok I am no expert. but my fly wheel looked resurfaced to the outer edge. Any how the friction surface on that flywheel looked odd to me.
-
Toasted Clutch?
Hard to tell really... But the flywheel looks a bit polished how worn down is it? could it be time to have it machined?

Center console and turn signal question
I believe all center consoles from 74 through 78 will work, but the 74's have a choke slot.

Weird Myths or Facts about your Z car
no worries, its a humor thread. And I am more grey now anyhow. Why is it when I make a typo I can't get the white out off the screen later?

What is this
Sounds about right but is there not a check valve that would prevent a vacuum leak if something were amiss?
-
What is this
Ok so I ran a strait line from the vacuum canister to the heater controls looks like my heat works now, cool it never worked since I've owned my car but there are some other issues with the air ducting I will need to examin. time to read up in the FSM....
