eBay audacity
Swaping vins is frowned on by most law makers in Canada and the USA. It is seen as being connected to car theft. Get a vin from a wreck, steal a nice car, pop on the "new" vin and sell it. Most states have laws that state vins must be turned in if the car is scrapped. There was a used car dealer in Georgia who got into trouble for offering a Porsche vin for sale on Ebay a couple months ago.

Value of a 70?
No idea why it was taken apart so far and as the guy who did it has passed away we will never know.....I can see doing that to a colour change car but what was put on it paint wise is so close to the original and not done very well it makes no sence to me. The only rust I saw was on the top of that frame rail in the picture. To me it looks like it wasn't preped properly before painting and grew over the 35 yrs that it has sat. As to the resolution of the pictures that's my fault. One of the 914 BBS I hang on won't load high res pictures, so I shrink them out of habit. I forget that when you link pictures you don't have to worry about their size. Will take big pics tomorrow. I'm going to look at it again tomorrow (if it stops raining) and will look at the things everyone mentioned (what's there in parts?, bumpers, spark plug wires, engine serial number/plate in engine bay). Jack it up and check underneath. Also I will look at the pedals, if there is wear on the rubber pads it means it was driven a bunch. The son is looking at getting the title and I will run the serial number thru the stolen car data base. Then we will talk price.

It was stored indoors...all the grey areas you see on the car are dust...in some places it's 1/8" thick It was just starting to rain when I went to look tonight so I didn't lay on the ground and look underneath and the mosquitoes were swarming so I didn't get a chance to do a very good inspection

Ok what areas do these rust in? On a 914 the battery tray and the long area underneath are the bad spots. I can do a PPI on a 914 in about 10 min, but I know what areas to look for the silent killer. On a Z car of this age I have no idea of what areas to look for. As there was no speedo (it might be in a box in the back) I have to agree that it's not a 2,000 mile car mabey a 102,000 Has a spare engine/trans
