Remove smog pump?
I have taken my Z to several places here in Spring and never been subjected to an emmissions test as well (or even a visual under the hood). When I first got the Z it ran extremely rich and burned oil because the valve seals were dried out; hard to believe they gave it a sticker. It runs much cleaner now... regular use, new plugs, adjusted valves/timing, electronic ignition, Z Theraphy carbs, etc. and all the smog stuff is now gone.

How do I get rid of that old musty odor?
Ozium is what I used, and it does contain ozone which I believe is simple charged oxygen molecules. It occurs naturally in the environment and it is what you smell after it rains. I do not know it's impact on plastic, but I suspect it is less than almost anything you would put on it while trying to scrub out the smell. I don't understand how it works, but as others have stated, it does work well.

How do I get rid of that old musty odor?
You may want to go down to the local auto parts store and buy a can of the ozone spray. Roll up all the windows and close the vents. Spray the contents of the can for a couple of seconds into the interior and then close the door. Leave it sit overnight and repeat a couple of times if necessary. You will be surprise at the difference. I had a house that got significant smoke damage years ago, and after they did the ozone treatment it was odorless free. I used a small cans from the auto store when I first bought my Z three years ago and it did wonders there as well. For $6 and 10 seconds of labor, it is hard to go wrong. Of course if you do not neutralize the source that generates the odor, it will come back. Jack T

Houston Texas Classic Datsun get together
I have an interest, but lately I am out of the country a lot. If I am home, I'll try to participate. I'd love to ride in another Z just to be able to compare against mine which is a work in progress. I really have enjoyed working on mine, willing to help out others if they need help. Jack T

What kinda of Z-car guy are you?
I guess I would be labeled an enthusiast. Sometimes I feel guilty because I am making modifications to a '70 that stray away from originality, but I can't seem to stop. It all started when I needed to replace the wiring harness under the dash and could not find an affordable replacement. My answer was to redesign the harness and drop in a modern 16 fuse block. Then I upgraded the distributor to a Mallory, followed by replacing the radiator with a four core unit, adding a polished Euro style balance tube, replacing the alternator, adding a header, upgrading front and rear brakes, replacing the bushings, springs, and struts. Only the Z gods know when I will stop tinkering with what was already a good thing. I am thinking about redoing the interior, which had already been "customised" by a PO (but really needs replacement) and saw where you can now buy burnt orange leather accompanied by black vinly; sounds like an intersting upgrade. The only things that eases the guilt factor is the support from members on this site that stress... its your car, do what ever you want. My wife has now given my Z a female name and refers to her as my mistress,,, I spend a lot of money and time with her, she lets me do what ever I want, and knows that late in the evening I will go home to the wife. (My wife also gave up her spot in the garage for the Z.)

More Respect for Zs in the UK
I do a lot of flying around the world, and while it has lost its romance it does still provide a lot of time to read. I picked up the November issue of Thoroughbred & Classic Cars (a UK publication where most of the cars have the steering wheel on the wrong side) and buried in the middle of the magazine is a really nice article on a 70' 240. Looks like both their appreciation and values for the Z over in the UK is on the rise. As it notes in the article, "there's a strong market for such cars now that the old snobbery against Japanese cars is subsiding as a new generation finds out for itself just how special the 240Z is". New paint ... Finally!!!
Mlaw7 I like the color it almost qualifies as an TAMU maroon; look forward to seeing pictures of it when it is finished, or even better yet bring it up to Spring for the Saturday night car show on Spring Cypress at Champions Forest. The car show should start back up in March. Zcurves, where in Spring are you? I am in Gleannloch Farms.

240 to electronic ignition
I installed a Mallory Unilite as well. Purchased from Summitt Racing which cut the price significantly compared to a couple of other suppliers. Been in place for two years now, very happy with performance.

what is Nissan coming to??
I agree with Mike, horsepower can be overated. Seven years ago I went to buy my first sportscar. I drove lots of different sportscars (including a Boxster) and at the end of the day I picked a Miata because it was so balanced. Nothing like winding it up and still not be very far over the speed limit. The 240 is not far behind, very balanced and fun to wind up. I bought a used BMWZ4 coupe because the Miata was just too loud on the freeway (got to the point where I almost needed to wear ear plugs). Great ride... smooth, quiet, and much much faster than what I ever need. At some point down the road I may retire and have to reduce the number of cars (my wife doesn't understand why I need three cars that have a total seating capacity of six) and the Z4 will go before the Miata or the 240. Maybe I'll live in someplace some day where I can utlize the extra HP, or even better have affordable access to a track. Jack T

240Zs Australia
I just got back from working several weeks in Brisbane, Australia. Here in the Houston area I rarely see a 240Z on the street. Last Sunday I took a couple of hours off work and went to the Coot-Tha Classic Car Hill Climb. On my way there, via a 15 minute cab ride, I spotted three 240Zs parked on the street and they all looked in great shape. Once I got to the hill climb event, I got to watch 3 different 240Zs participate in the event. They not only held their own, but one was in the top ten while even competing against indy style cars. Great to see the 240Zs so well represented; they appear to have a great appreciation for Zs in Australia. It still feels strange to be in a place where they drive on the different side of the road, must be very very careful when jaywalking. Jack T

370z
About a month ago I was looking for a replacement to my miata (which I loaned to my son in college) so I went out and test drove a 370. It was an absolute beast, the power was incredible but in the end a lot more than I need in a daily driver. It looks much better upclose than any of the pictures you will see in the mags. My only dislikes were that the digital fuel consumtion gage was out of place, as well as annoying, and the level of road noise was not much better than the miata. In the end I got a one year old BMW Z4 which reminded me more of my 240 than the 370 does (straight six, long hood, rear axle right behind the seat). Great time to buy used cars (regardless of what you buy). It had 14K on the speedo and was 20K off original sticker.

73 240Z on Passtime
Srbigbutt, Twsut, and Zedyone... I am in Spring as well (Glennloch Farms). Everynow and then I take my '70 240 up to the Saturday night car show at Spring Cypress and Champion Forest. Over the last year or so I've seen four other Zs at the show. We should make plans to show up one night as a group.
