Due to the recent death of my father in law, I have been asked to value his 1983 280ZX. My mother in law would like for me to keep the car, and I do have interest in keeping it in the family, for selfish (I have always wanted a Z) and sentimental reasons. I would, of course, like to pay my mother in law a fair value for the car, if I decide to keep it, or have a rough idea what to ask for it if I sell it. I know that "value" is in the mind of a prospective buyer, but I need a starting point.
I am struggling, to say the least, as to how to value it though.
It is a 1983 280ZX 2 + 2, non Turbo.
It has no dents, has been professionally repainted (although, not the original color), and the interior was restored by my father in law (his hobby).
The car starts and runs well, and does not appear to have any major mechanical issues.
There are some electrical issues:
..radio won't turn on
..after he replaced the center console the A/C would not come on, but I understand that he would flip a switch behind the glove compartment and it would work?
..warning light display (red square) stays red all of the time
..electric mirror controls have will not function
Here are a some pics.
I realize that this is a subjective exercise, but I know that y'all have had a ton of experience.
Thank you all for a great site and any help or suggestions that you may be able to offer!!
