  1. Just like a sailor, a babe in every port.
  2. If anybody has a manual for the Hitachi AM radio in pdf I would love a copy of that. I found the manual for the later radio on xenons30.com but that doesn't work for me. J

Snipped from zhome.com: 1970 Through 1973 PRODUCTION According To Nissan Released Production Numbers: Datsun 240Z's Exported From Japan 1969 though 1973. Note- it is possible that the last few months of 1973, were in fact the 1974 Model Year 260Z;s. So it is possible that the difference between total units produced of 168,584 and 240Z's produced of 164,616 could be 3968 260Z's produced in Oct. I dont know the details but there are many. First of all they are 2 different body styles. The last year of the S30 was 78. Try www.zhome.com. They answer a lot of questions there. John
  5. I am pretty sure my dash harness has been molested. I picked up a Series 1 Hitachi Radio and went to test it and found both my antenna pigtail and power pigtail missing. Does anyone have pictures of the connetors that connect the harness to the radio fuse wire and the harness to the antenna switch connections? These pictures would help the seller find the correct pigtails for me. Thanks John
  6. If you need to rotate it exactly 180 degrees you can do this by dismantling the top end of the dizzy and rotating the guts 180 degrees. Takes about 10 minutes and does not require removing the oil pump. Chilton shows the parts blowup. Study that and you will see how it can be done. I did this last month and it works great. John EDIT: Not sure if this can be done with a Pertronix.

Welcome to the club. You came to the right place. Lots of threads on "waking the sleeping beast" A couple of years really isnt that long of a time compared to most around here. First you need the FSM which might be available here: www.xenons30.com then I would change all the fluids and filters(dont forget the fuel pump screen/filter), pull the plugs and try to crank the engine over with a wrench. I think its a 22mm on the older Z's, not sure about the 79 and newer. If she turns freely I would leave the plug wires off and crank it a little bit to get oil moving around the top end. After that put the plug wires back on and keep your fingers crossed. Good luck. John
  9. So what did you do about the fuel rail?
  10. No rush. I'll be at a show all day tomorrow.
  11. PM sent.
  12. Yes, it's always worth something for the core but it will cost the new owner about a grand to get it recapped (including shipping). I actually need a series 1 core and I am in Hudson WI. The gages are worth a little money, especially if the speedo starts at 20 mph, not 0. Also, the dash wiring harness and long pigtail fuse block if in good shape are worth something. What they are worth is pretty much dictated by the market and what someone is willing to pay. If you want to get rid of the dash I would need a picture of the area by the hazard switch so I could see the indents and the empty spot above the hazard switch. Let me know if you want any more info. John
  13. Sounds like it's time for dominic to buy a z. I've driven a 2002, they are nice looking and fun to drive but the Z is a totally different beast.

Thanks for the clarification Ron. The old adage comes through again: Believe none of what you read/hear and only half of what you see...
  16. Ummmm? This thread is 7 years old and dominic hasn't been here since he started this thread.

Not sure if it is the same but I installed new rubber on my 70 and it curves towards the windshield if that helps. John

There's a 77 280 hood for sale on craigslist in pheonix right now. I am pretty sure it will bolt right on and he's asking 200 for it. That is a fair price, maybe you could get him down to 160. The only issue with the 280 hoods is they were vented. I kind of like the look. John
  19. I am pretty much a purist so I really don't know much about engine swaps. Maybe Ben can help you out. By the way, my handle on zoom is Old School. John
  20. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DATSUN-BRASS-SHIFTER-BUSHINGS-240Z-260Z-280Z-E-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ110522480912QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories There is a nut on the bottom of the shifter. When you remove this nut and pull up the shifter there will be a rubber bushing there too. Replacing both of these items should tighten up your shifter. The brass bushings replace stock nylon bushings. I am not using the brass ones yet but I hear they work wonders. John

Dan, Looks like a lot of work but you seem to have a handle on it. Post more pics as you go. BTW, Last week I installed the door panels you picked up for me. They look great. I cannot thank you enough. Good luck and take care, John
  22. Probably just the rubber bushing. You could replace it for cheap. You're along way from having to worry about that though. You the same smoothz as at zoom?
  23. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/SBC08 Bend over and get ready to be abused.... Good luck.

Thanks. It's supposed to rain all weekend up here so I might just have to start the blasting on the mesh. The centers look like aluminum or magnesium. Any warnings before I blast away with coal slag?

Thanks guys. Got to test them in a tarrential (sp?) downpour today. Seemed to ride alright at about 55 through some bends and hills with a strong wind pushing on the drivers side. I read somewhere that the Sumitomo HTRs are just a slight bit sloppy on wet roads but I am not convinced of that yet. I just can't believe how quiet and smooth they are. John
