  1. My '70 has been non-op for about 14 years, stored mostly indoors. Running when parked with gas and oil. 102k on the odometer. So, what is the best procedure for waking this baby up. Gas looks like thin molasses, master and clutch master cylinders are shot, I have new ones. Fuel tank is to be drained and reconditioned. Carbs had petrified fuel that is VERY sticky. They are being replaced. I have not tried to turn the engine over yet. I did not want to try to start her until all the other systems are restored. Mike

7277, where did you source the brass fittings? Mike

The body is fine. I worked on driving the jet out of the jet bearing after it was out of the body. I pulled on the jet and it came out of the plastic part. It looks like a press in fit, with 2 tiny 0-rings. Anyway, the plastic part is not damaged. As far as the jet bearing, only the collar has a little nick. Its your call, of course. Mike

Bruce, I'm used to British SU terminology. Is the nozzle the same as the jet? And, does the jet slide up and down, for choke, in the jet bearing? My Hitachi jet on one carb was absolutely glued to the jet bearing. In my efforts to free the jet-which I ruined-I think I might have messed up the jet bearing. How would that effect my core value. I plan on buying your rebuild and sending you my cores. I have a '70 Z with 4 screw tops. Mike

I've looked a few carb rebuilder sites, prices are similar. Any recommendations as to best quality of work and service? I am going to order soon. Thanks, Mike

7277, your engine bay is now my benchmark. So clean! I see that you did away with the fuel rail and its return line. Any fuel pressure issues in terms of overflow? Also, the crankcase vent, can't see a filter on it. What did you do? BTW, this site is great! I mentioned desmogging on the ZCar forum, all I got was bitched at about how illegal it was. Give me a break! Mike Mike

Thanks, John. That thread helped alot. As far as defining my desmogging goals; I want to maintain the pcv valving, fuel evaporation system, but clean up the cluttered look of the engine. I want to eliminate the air pump and rails. How is driveability without the throttle closing delay system? Mike

I'm new to the forum. I'd like to remove the air pump and injectors on my '70 Z. Are there threaded plugs that will plug the holes in the exhaust header and what thread size? How about the vacuum canisters and lines attached to the intake manifold, can they go? I do not have to have the car inspected or smog checked. Mike
