Triple Mikuni thread
Hey fellas! Just stumbled upon this thread and the info is outstanding! Just curious if anyone has continued on with their tuning projects this year? I'd love to see some updates. Some things I've been curious about recently are how people are fuelling the carbs... where are the lines ran, pressures, distribution blocks, regulators, mounting locations, return vs. no return line... etc. etc. So I've been scouring the interwebs looking at engine bay pictures. I picked up my setup as a complete unit that the previous owner was swapping out for a RB25 turbo project. It ran great when he pulled it out and it ran great, and still runs great, after I dropped it in. Rebello 3.2L stroker w/ 44's. I'd did the swap right before moving to Florida in 2013 and since then I have had very little chance to drive or tinker with it. Between the humidity here in the FL swamps, absolutely horrible drivers and high car theft and vandalism, I only occasionally take it for short cruises... which is killing me slowly. However, with a change in job and location this summer things should start to free up for me to get back at it The other day I ran into my first starting issue though... she had to cool down after getting fuel... vapor lock I'm thinking? Anyway, thanks for all the time you guys have put into this extremely valuable thread, and as soon as I have something useful to contribute I'll make sure to post.

What Are These Holes For?
Those are for the shoulder belts. I'm not sure if the belts were an option or standard, so I'm not 100% on whether the hole was left open or covered in some way. Mine is a '72 built in 9/71, when I got her in 2005 the shoulder belts that were installed had a 1990 manufacturing date stamped on the tag. Also, I think I have an extra set I could dig for if you're interested.

Urethane bushings squeaks
Yeah, I saw that... and that's a bummer for sure. More or less just wanted to add a solution for people brought here by the squeaky bushings title. Hope you get it sorted out...

Urethane bushings squeaks
Hey Steve... Prothane Super Grease was recommended to me back when I installed my bushings in 2006 and they've never made a sound. Prothane Super Grease - JEGS

Central Florida?
Hey Steve... sure did! The Mikunis need a little tuning, but she's back on the road. I got a local shop to fab the exhaust up last Thursday and I was at cars and coffee on Saturday. Pulls strong, 5th gear is awesome and that STi LSD is the way to go! Any info you get from your buddy would be greatly appreciated. Apparently there were a couple clubs down there that recently merged and are now calling themselves Sun Central Z Club or something like that. It seems like they are ironing out the details, but they have a website and are on Facebook so I'll be keeping up with that. If anybody here has any input that would be nice.

Central Florida?
Hello all! This weekend I am being relocated (as per Uncle Sam) to the Orlando area. While I am very sad to say goodbye to Indianapolis and the rest of the Hoosier State, I am excited to partake in year round Z weather. I will be starting the tear down and body/paint work after I move in so I will also be interested to find out more about some local shops. I figure anything from Tampa to Daytona is fair game. Are there any active clubs in the Central FL area? Anybody have any body shop recommendations?

MSD 6AL - 280ZX Dizzy - 240Z Tach
Thanks guys! I sat down with the wiring diagram for the Z, the MSD and the 8920 and made a composite that made more sense now that I can visually see that the Tach is removed from the ignition circuit by the MSD box... so no worries there. tlorber- I hadn't even thought about being able to have the stock tach rebuilt/upgraded... and I think you have changed my path! I've been researching aftermarket products and just haven't been 100% happy with any particular brand. I think the Autometer SportComps look great, but I really wanted to keep all the warning lights and indicators in the gauges without modding brand new $$$ gauge. So now I will give some serious thought to having the tach and speedo rebuilt. So for now I will connect the MSD and coil up and attempt to verify the new drivetrain and just go "rpm's by ear" since I intend to start the full teardown for paint and body this summer. Thanks again guys!

MSD 6AL - 280ZX Dizzy - 240Z Tach
I am in information overload here and I am looking for setups that have worked for others. I have searched and searched and with all the info out there on all the Z sites I can't determine what actually worked under what circumstances. I mean seriously, you can prove and then disprove the theory of relativity within a post or two in some of these threads. The short of it is that I am in the process of connecting an MSD 6AL with MSD Coil to a 280ZX Distrubutor in a '72 240Z with the original tachometer. The more complete version: I recently picked up a somewhat used Rebello 3.2L with triple Mikunis and have already put it in place... along with replacing the entire driveline... ACT Clutch, T-5, STi R180 LSD, Wolf Creek Halfshafts. The ZX ignition module was not being used in the previous owners setup and it was running the MSD instead. The wiring for the MSD seems pretty straight forward... because there isn't a module the green/purple goes straight to the dizzy which is wired for it. The coil is straight forward. I "think" I need the 8920 Tach Adapter... but in a thread somewhere somebody was swearing up and down they were using the 8910... and then there is the 8910EIS. And in a few spots people are saying 8610, which MUST be a typo because that's CSB crank trigger kit. I'm pretty certain I will need one, but which? I remove the ballast right? Where do those wires end up? Aren't they going to the tach? Is this where the Adapter comes into play? Also, what is this about the ignition signal running through the Tach and if a wire somewhere is disconnected it won't start? I plan to connect the MSD up tomorrow and fire this baby up with or without the Tach, I just want to know that a solution is on the way. I've actually got a brand new Mallory Uni Lite in a box that will eventually find it's way on this motor, but I want to prove the engine works in this car with it's last known good setup before I start swapping parts. Thanks!

Nice Survivor!
It's a '73 just as it says. I don't think they give them the new model year until Sept... mine is a '72 built in Sept '71. Plus, if it was a '74 it would be a 260Z.

Anyone need a Roof?
Any word on the tear down? I sent a PM with no response... I'm what you might call a motivated buyer

240Z first lap of race at Laguna Seca
Heck yeah it worked! Nice run man... loved watching that 40 year old Z hang in there with that S2000 and that 370... and then pass that Honda through a little late breaking magic in turn 1.

its been too long
Hey Ernest! Good to see you found your way back SC is home for me (Charleston), but being in the service... I've been all over... IN now and down to FL next year. Carl Beck is still around... I see him pop up in threads pretty often... imparting his wisdom to the masses. However, If the Carl you remember was Carl Stahlnecker aka: "Bambikiller" then I have some rather sad news for you... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/thread22113.html Welcome Back!

I spy a z!
Hey Steve... I'm just up the road from you in Noblesville! I spy a white-ish (maybe primered) S30 Z! Yesterday around 1pm I was on my way back from the Kokomo Automotive Museum and on the way out of town I noticed a truck pulling a Z on a car trailer on the other side of Hwy 31. The Z had a widebody kit and G nose... and looked pretty rough.

Mallory Unilite, Ignition Boxes, Rebello 2.7L, Triples
So here I am 2 months later... I ordered and received the Mallory and two new ballast resistors and still have yet to install them. Still haven't called Dave either. Even worse, earlier this week I was rediculously close to selling the Z and getting a 70-72 Skyline KGC10! I called the guys up at JDM Legends and had a 20 min conversation with them about the process and they were even interested in buying my Z. But, last night around 11pm I decided against it and to keep the Z and move forward with resto-mod. I've gone back to an original idea I had back before I even found my car of creating a Z432-ish look alike. Flares, fender mirrors etc etc. I'll let y'all know the progress with the dizzy soon since I've received a new boost of enthusiasm. Oh yeah... the Skyline is still in the ultimate plan... I'm just going to start playing the lottery to get it

Mallory Unilite, Ignition Boxes, Rebello 2.7L, Triples
Got swamped at work Friday and totally spaced on calling Dave... it hit me later that night... so I'll probably be getting ahold of them in the first few days of this week. I've decided that I am going the Mallory route. There are a lot of satisfied people out there with it and it's the price isn't that far off from a rebuilt Z dizzy with pertronix or rebuilt ZX with a new ignition module. Like I mentioned earlier, I've discussed what I was looking for out of an engine with Dave a number of years back and he agreed, at that time, that the 2.7 would fit the bill. Well actually he said the L28 would be easier/cheaper... but I wanted the original engine and I have to move too often to tote a second engine around. Notice I haven't mentioned any specific HP number. The number that came up before on the 2.7L with SU's was 225-ish, triples will most likely be higher. I don't have a particular number that "I need" to have. Driveability... absolutely. Power... YES. Bragging rights... sure. I expect final weight with stereo, additional electrics, a/c and driver to be around 2600lbs... should provide plenty of grins at all RPM's

Mallory Unilite, Ignition Boxes, Rebello 2.7L, Triples
Darn your voice of reason! Just as I was about to click "check out" too. I talked with Dave a few years back about the build, but the topic of "which dizzy" never came up. I'll give them a call tomorrow to discuss more in depth, however I feel pretty confident that the Mallory will be fit the bill for anything from bone stock to big bore strokers. By the way, your avatar pic has planted the idea of that airdam in mind...

Mallory Unilite, Ignition Boxes, Rebello 2.7L, Triples
Thanks for the recommendation Mike! Do you think it would be worth installing the 6AL at this point, or just wait? I'll know more about the powerband when I get in touch with the Rebello gang again... but that is still up to a year away. I started talking to them about it a few years ago and then didn't decided not to pull the trigger. If they say it will build power into the 7000's then I will definetly add on an ignition box. I haven't come across anyone with the 2.7L because it's so easy to grab and build an L28, but I really want to keep it #'s matching and since I move around the country so much it is a hassle to move a third car AND a spare engine. So I'll be that guy
