  2. Wow- That sucks! Nate
  3. This very sad news. I can't believe I've missed this thread for over 3 weeks! I feel priviledged having actually met Carl. On one of my trips to a school in Northern California, Carl and I got together and hung out for a day. We had a great time. He offered plenty of advice and help when I was searching for my Z and when I found one down around L.A. he offered to go take a look at it even though he lived something like 6 or so hours away. He was a good man and I will always admire his honesty and willingness to help others. -Godspeed Carl- Nate
  4. Stop-Drilling just might work. It is still used in damage control on ships for split seems in bulkheads. I don't know how much of a part the foam plays in the dash cracks, I always thought it was just the vinyl drying up and shrinking... so Mike could have a valid point. I don't think JB Weld would be the way to go though. I remember seeing a vinyl and leather repair paste in Wal Mart a couple years ago. I believe it was a two part concoction with a dye to match the material... I think you would find it in the crafts section. Nate
  5. Awesome! Thanks Stephen. Nate
  6. I installed the Eibach/HP combo a couple of months ago and I am quite pleased with the outcome. Comfy enough to me without compromising the "sport" in sports car. In fact now when I turn into a corner, like a left hand turn at an intersection, even just a little aggressive the tires start to squeel... guess I should get the 16" panasports now :devious: I do have a question for y'all though... Has anyone else noticed a substantial amount of negative camber in the rear after completing this upgrade? Here's a pic of mine.

...but back to the Speed Racer bit... There was a guy a few years back turning C5 Vettes into Mach 5's, a bit pricey for me but the mach 5 was my dream car as a young fella. The website used to be mymach5.com but it is apparently a thing of the past, this is all I could find http://www.sussexcountyonline.com/news/columns/cars/carreviews/speedracer.html Anyway I'm a dork and will take the day off work to be first in line if they actually make the movie. -Nate

  13. You took the words right outta my mouth.
  14. Lance- Good info... may make others think twice about where to go for paint/body work. Nova looks great! You can even make out y'alls reflestions in the black stripes. Nate
  15. Back in South Carolina, a friend of mine had them paint his 65 Beetle. He used either the cheapest level or the next to cheapest level and it didn't look half bad either. He did all of his own body work and he put 1/4" rope behind all of the window rubber so the paint would get behind it. Also when we got there he pulled all the lights off. He also pulled the bumpers and other chrome pieces off too. Basically he wanted them to screw up as little as possible. He went with a nice British Racing Green, you really have to trust your bodywork and the guy with the gun when you go with a dark color. That was about 3 years ago and it still looks as good as the day it was done. Here's a pic... sorry I don't have any close-ups. FWIW- Nate
  16. Hey Joe. It must be that yours are the double box ends, 'cause my combo just can't get in there. Might also be the age of the wrenches too, they might have changed the casting or whatever just a bit. Good news! Since there is a complete lack of pawn shops in this area, I swung by ol' Wal-Mart and picked up a set of Stanley metric wrenches. Again the boxend of the 14mm wouldn't fit but since these aren't my good (nor my only) set metric wrenches I took it to the grinder ( a la Zsaint). Didn't have to take much off, but I'll be damned not only did it fit but I was able to back the other two out with a couple of whacks from a rubber mallet in just seconds. Thanks to all, Nate is happy! Next step... Transverse Link Pin removal! Nate:cheeky:
  17. Ahh if it was that easy... I too am using a 14mm Craftsman Combo wrench... The wrench will not fit at any point in the rotation. It sounds as though grinding is going to be my only option, outside of squeezing a sawzall in and cutting off the nuts which I would rather not do because I'm positive there has to be a better way. Nate
