Okay so I keep seeing this thread on the front page and decided to give it a look. I was leary to even look at it as I thought it was more comparing the 350 to the much more classy Z's that we own. But now that I've read I'd like to say a piece and ask a question. I don't own the book nor have I read, although I have seen it for sale at a Books-A-Million before but saw the 350 and... well you get the picture. As far as the forward goes... I don't think it's a matter of Mr. Morton not saying what he felt to be true, but a matter of the author/editor deciding that it's not exactly a favorable comment and then placing it elsewhere in the book and then finding some other fella to "My life was incomplete until the day Nissan released the Z!" After all, when somebody says something semi-unfavorable people go "Wha! Did you hear what he said!??!" for the next few weeks maybe even years... The written word on the otherhand is permanent and esentially last forever. Proof of this? Well i think the Goertz myth is proof. Which brings me to my question... I agree that Goertz didn't design the Z. Who did? I've yet to see that pop up. Alan, Chris, Steven... I'm sure one or more of y'all knows, do tell. Also, What class did the 911 race in? It was also a 2.4L 6cyl during that time. And the 914?!? It seems to me the 912 would've been a better advesary than a 914. Nate

Maybe it's a more east coast style ride but I have to say I like the first one, although I think the spoiler is a bit excessive as is his asking price too . I can't believe the Orange one didn't go for more! Of course maybe Kenny and I have the same motivation for our fondness of it :nervous: Nate

If you have to explain it to someone it isn't worth the time it would take to do so. It's your car. Maybe he's jealous? If I wanted to buy your car I would tell you, "gee you should sell that thing and buy (insert any car name here). Heck you'd be lucky to get $200 for it... you know I've got $200 right here and I brought a trailer to tow it home with." Anyway, Camaro - sports car or muscle car? Neither, it's a pony car. Grouped together with the Mustang and the 'Cuda. I have similar issues everyday at work, The 3 guys I work with each drive the typical American trucks, a Silverado Z71, a F150 STX 4x4 and a Ram 1500 4x4, while when not in the Z I drive a Frontier 4x4 . So I used to try arguing with them about American vs. Jap, compact vs. full size and oneday I just realized it isn't worth it... we all drive what we like and none of us will budge - regardless of the fact that mine is more reliable, better gas mileage, more ground clearance and better off road capabilities.

Love the spook, my personal favorite. Black looks okay, if you're gonna leave it that way I would paint/clearcoat it in black. Personally though I feel that it looks unfinished when not painted, ala Honda Civic "ricer". Here is a pic of a silver 240 Panasports and a painted spook... should give you a good idea of what yours would look like.

I like slots... old school type of cool. But sorry, I don't dig them in 17"... at least not on the Z... doesn't look quite proportional. I think slots in 16" would be about the biggest that would look right. 15's definetly look good.

Here's a 1979... Notice that the bed and cab are one... definetly based on a car (el camino-ish). This one is the same body but a different grille.

Hey I'm goolglin' like crazy! Can't find it. I've seen one of these before... and i'm looking at all the ones of the era Chevy Luv, Isuzu P'up, Ford Courier, Mazda B series... can't find it! Arghhh! This one has been debated to quite the extent in a few other threads... do a search and you'll see. One of the fellas before, quoting that he does rebuild or has been a transmission builder or designer in the past, says that it is perfectly exceptable to pull a manual trannied Z with the rears down and the driveshaft in and the tranny in neutral. I can say that I pulled mine ~1000 miles Charleston, SC to Geneva, NY this way with no problems. Of course the best bet would just be to remove the driveshaft. And even better would be to use a double axle car trailer, if your tow vehicle allows that is. so to answer more directly... No, as long as your Z is a manual. Nate

He says it's basically just a parts car now... but if one was planning a resto anyway I'm sure most of it could be saved (sans wiring though).

Hmmm, yeah you could definettly make it fit! Looks alot like the ones we have on our 2 V12 Detroit Diesel powered generators at work... I'll check tomorrow for more info.

Negative. Mine must not be working properly then, because mine WILL NOT lock unless the door is closed. Doesn't matter what combination of pushing the lock turning the key and position of the handle I try - the door MUST be closed in order to get the lock to move. On the other hand, the 86 Toyota MR2 I had needed the handle up in order to remain locked when the door was being closed. All in all, I'm just ecstatic they used a Z (esp. a 240 :classic: ) in the introductory episode. But we still need a show where a main character drives a Z, just as long as they don't make any Duke's of Hazard jumps with it.

Yeah, the minis are cool he had an orange mini "ute" like a mini but with a pickup bed on it - man it was way awesome! Good thing you got the Z in the pic with the Defender, added a little class to the photo. I NEED a PATROL!!! I would give Bens left arm for one. Man you need to get that Gnose on ASAP. You'll look like a tool either of the other two ways.

Tail lights were North American, could not get a decent look at the defrost lines... I think I saw vertical, but not 100%. I also did not see him hold the handle up- furthermore, my doors will NOT lock unless they are shut, and to my knowledge mine are in tip-top full functioning order. I guess you have to press the "I believe" button on this one and assume that since he is making a habit of kidnapping and killing women that he has the door "rigged". Tomohawk - The door panel in the show was definettly a 240Z panel, looks exactly like mine. And as far as her being "fragile" and "knocked-out" that was never shown... she was locked in a moving car and punched in the side of the face. They never show her getting knocked out.
