240Z Sports
Good point 2many, I see where you are coming from also. I was going on an assumption of haw other countries may refer to the 240... such as Kats' site reads "Datsun 240Z Sports" as the title www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/ The world may never know Nate

Very rare 240Z emblem
I believe I had seen it in a Video on the Z's (maybe the History Channels) that the Z's were shipped over as Fairlady Z's (or badgeless I can't recall I'll watch the video later) and the 240Z badges were added here in the states because they felt the Americans would like the Fairlady bit. Am I mistaken? Kat's and Alan, were they only Fairlady Z's on your sides of the pond? Becoming more confused, Nate

240Z Sports
To my knowledge there was no "Sports" package and the term Sports is just a term refering to sports car. To add even more speculation I believe the S in S30 means that it is a Sports Car chassis. The Datsun 510 is actually a P510 and I believe the P stands for Passenger. The Datsun 620 pick up had no identifier in front of 620 to my knowledge so makes you wonder on that though. Again this is all just speculation. my 2cents Nate

Found: Z with a G nose
Hey Will, Due to the fact that we are conversing through words on screens some of the finer points of the English language aren't always included via typed messages. Sorry to offend let me explain... A. I left out a fact in the original post... on my way to Sav. Ga... I wasn't in GA yet.. the car resides off I-26 exit 31 (17 S) in South Carolina. B. I was born in Texas. Then moved to SC when I was just 2. I am now 24 and have spent 17 years of my life in the Charleston area. Therefore making me one of these Rednecks, and yes I do have a dog and drive a 4WD pick up, a Frontier to be exact. Now in defense of my home state (although sense I got married I now have to refer to Western New York as home:tapemouth)... I took your advice and visited the US Census site and unfortuantly found nothing on literacy rates but did find info on % 5 and over that do not speak English well and % 16-19 Not enrolled in HS and not a HS graduate numbers are as follows respectfully... Chatham 2.6 and 10.2. Charleston 2.4 and 8.9. Now this is quite sad that this is still a problem in 2004. Now in my defense I have never lived in Charleston county. I live and have always lived in Berkeley county (read only semi-backwooded ) and the numbers for Berkeley are 2.2 and 7.1%. Of course all this is in good fun and no offense meant, I have frequented Sav. , GA many times and plan to many more... plus it's cheaper to fly in and out of SAV than CHS. I are edyakated Nate:stupid:

Found: Z with a G nose
Hey Alan. As always, OUTSTANDING information and extremely informative. I was beginning to think what I had heard about these factory optioned non-ZG cars was false but you have restored my faith in mankind:D I think I will have time this weekend to head back out there and check it out and you can be assured I'm taking a copy of your response to help I.D. this G-nosed Z in what I consider to be about the weirdest places to find a Z in the U.S. (very back-wooded, redneck, and country). I'd love to see some of those pictures too. I'll PM you with my email. Thanks Nate

Found: Z with a G nose
Hey Ben, appreciate the reply. I am aware of the ZG and how they look, awesome amoung other fine words to describe them. What I am talking about is I have heard of dealers here in US back in the '70's installing the g nose which was sold by nissan as an add on. A perfect example is the yellow 240 on the "dream car garage" poster that I have seen labled as Mr. K.'s and it is also used on the Nissanusa.com site in the heritage section. It has a G nose and wire wheels with no flares. I am just curious if there is a way to tell the Nissan add-on apart from the the MSA part. Thanks again. Nate

Found: Z with a G nose
Okay here it goes... On my way to Savannah, GA the other day I damn near broke my neck when I caught a glimpse of a Blue long nosed car on the side of Highway 17 in someones yard. Yup it was a 240 and appeared to have a... no could it be? ... yes it had a G-nose and a fender mounted mirror. Well we picked up my mother in-law from the Sav. airport and I swung by real quick to try and get a better look. It looked pretty rough. Only had the drivers (left) side mirror and the nose (which was fiberglass ) was cracked. It also had no badges on it was equipped with the most ridiculously wide tires and rims with a set of $13.99 Wal-Mart hub caps. Do to the small and very dead animal hood my wife would not let waste any time getting out to really check out the car but if I get time next week I will try to go back ( It's about an hour and a half from here) just to satisfy my curiosity. Question. How does one tell if the G-nose was a Dealer added option (which I believe I have heard of), or a more recent aftermarket add-on like MSA? Thanks and If i do go back I'll try to snap some pics. Nate

For Interest Only (Toyota 2000GT)
Hello to all, especially our friends over seas! I am always intrigued at how so many of these post are contributed by so many different countries... the internet, what a concept! I too find the Z to be my cup of tea, I really am a jeans and t-shirt kinda guy. But I do respect and admire the Toyota 2000GT. I am also thankful that the Toyota played out the way it did so that it could be an object of admiration yet so distant to ownership as opposed to the realtively available Z cars. At least this way I know that a Z is within my grasp! Hey Kats! In the US we are quite aware of the wonderful products that Yamaha has produced for many years. I am a fan of their home audio equipment, like a Z quite a bit of Bang for not a lot of Bucks. Outstanding motorcycles and snowmobiles too! Yamaha R1, very awesome! Alan! How are things on your side of the pond? I'm glad I read all the replies before posing the question that has bugged me for sometime... those darn panels between the door and front wheel! Battery compartment, nice and low... good idea from Toyota. Take care all! Nate

Monster Garage
It seems to me that anyone with a considerable amount of money does whatever just to get more, hell I know I would. Remember Michael Jordon's fruit of the loom commercials, your talking about a guy who doesn't even shop at stores where FotL is sold. On to where Jessie buys parts, I recall an episode of MG where they had to pick up some part and the auto store they went to to get it was AutoZone. Doesn't mean he always shops there but something from AutoZone has been on one of the Monster Garage cars. Nate

Advice for a 20hr trip on a 240Z
Anything can happen, and if given the chance it will. I would say the safest bet is to have it shipped but if you absolutely can't, then at least take it easy. Remember that it's a 30 plus year old mechanical object. Untill you can get near home I would try to avoid the temptation to open her up. 20 hours? Make sure you stay rested and alert. Again 32 year old car and a Z to boot, both of which mean that there will inevitably be exhaust or raw fuel fumes entering the cabin, so take frequent breaks and keep the windows at least cracked if not open. I'd imagine there are some pretty desolate roads out here so you may want to add a 3 or so gallon can of fuel to your list, because "just how accurate is that gas gauge anyway" Food for thought... I had a friend with a Geo Storm that broke down in Alabama. Didn't have money to tow it back to South Carolina, so he rented a U-haul and put the car in the back. Good luck and have a safe trip, Nate

According to 916 area code, the car is located somewhere in the Sacramento, California or surrounding area. Just more bad news to those of searching the East coast Nate

wah ur fav. z?!?!
'72 240Z... Orange w/ Panasports not sure where I got this pic from but she's exactly my dream car. Wasn't a 77 a 260 in OZ? Road and Track recorded 122mph in April of 1970 and to the best of my knowledge no other stock Z recorded a faster top speed until the ZX turbos came out. Nate

Detailing Checklist
Baby oil on the dash? I know she's your "baby" and all, but you might have crossed a line that one isn't supposed to crossROFL. I'm sure there is something about baby oil that will make it not all that great to use. Car products for cars, baby products for babies. Personally I prefer most mequiars or mothers products. Not too terribly expensive and readily available. On the dash I use Meguiars Natural Shine, Outside trim Moters back to black, body I use the Meguiars 3 step "system" when I have time, keeping in my this has always been on stock paint jobs not $2000+ professional show car paint jobs. -I find a box of Q-tips works great for vents and other small areas that attract dust. -Wipe the dash then clean the windows not vice-versa.
