AutoZone Test Results: battery/alternater/volt reg all bad. Possible?
One thing to remember is that the only way to test all outputs of an alt. is while it's on the car. The indoor bench testers can only show if the alt. can maintain a voltage...this isn't really the alts only job...It's main purpose is to charge, that's current and can only be done with the proper load on it, your car. 2+2 vs 2 Seaters
Right, so i can't find the angle that makes a 2+2 look "better". Not that it look's that bad, well ok it does but hey it's still a Z right? And i was digging the Idea of a s30 sport wagon 'till I saw the pick and passed out (ow, my head). Hey CAMO, I actually kinda like the 2nd and 3rd pics. What are they? Nate:cross-eye

AutoZone Test Results: battery/alternater/volt reg all bad. Possible?
So here it is. I've all but said it. I work at Autozone. I'm a shift manager otherwise known as a PSM. The Skinny: The fella should not even test your battery unless it reads 12.5 or higher when not even in use. If he proceeds to test it it will read one of 4 things. 1) good battery 2) good battery, low charge 3) Charge and retest (tester did not receive adequate info during test and requires a full charge to give an acurateresult) 4) Bad battery Charging system test reads voltage at battery (regulator output) and current supplied (drawn) durring charge cycle. Your regulator should be between ~13.1 - 14.5v and the amperage should be at least 60% of the alternators rated output. RESULTS: Your battery is bad. Let them use the Duralast Charger for free at Autozone or Trickle charge it yourself. In the end the battery will still test Bad. I believe by running on the battery after the alt. crapped out one or more cells in the battery collapsed. I would still say the alt. is bad but to be sure take it out and let them bench test it in the store. AutoZone can also bench test your reg., but since it's only like $15 I'd replace anyway. Happy testing! Nate:cross-eye

hop in car smell gas....clear a few things up
ID/OD doesn't apply to hose, they go by inside size though. When you go to the parts store and tell them you need 5 feet of 5/8" FUEL line, they know:paranoid: Nate:cross-eye

Is my battery going bad? or my alternator? what the hell is going on!!!
Don't know everything about the Z's since I don't have one yet...But I do know about cars and I'm an Elec. Tech. The 13.5-14.7 volts you read means the voltage regulator is doing it's job but it doesn't always mean the Alt. too...just 9 out of 10 times.:classic: The best thing is to have a parts store run a charging system and battery check on the car. The alternator must be in the car and the car running to read current draw (amps). NAPA is evil:bandit: ... try Autozone.:cheeky: Nate:cross-eye

won't start
Hey Marshall! I did a little test last night with a standard coil (good) and an Accel coil (good) they both read the same. So before you toss out the cash go ahead and test the Mallory you have. Nate:cross-eye

Marshall, You should be able to determine weather it is good or bad with the above information...if anything the values might be a little higher...I will try this tonight with a new Wells and a new Accel unit to see if I am right. Chances are that you wont notice any difference going back to stock parts. The temp switch I'm not sure about. Good luck Nate:cross-eye

Marshall, Why couldn't they test it? Is it because it's a mallory? Even if so they should be able to test it. I'm not 100% sure that it's the same resistance values as a standard coil, but if its not working chances are that it's open. The Autozone part is a Wells unit. The part # is C840 and the values are as follows: primary .7-1.1 ohms secondary 8.96k - 13.44k ohms This test is done with a standard ohm/ multimeter. Even though you have a mallory the test should still work if anything the values would be little higher. If the unit is bad it should be Megaohms or plain open. The Wells part is $20 here so the price should be the same or close. If you have any doubt on the resistance check $20 is cheaper than $50. Happy testing! Nate:cross-eye

#0001 is it RHD or LHD
I feel like churnning up the waters a bit since I think I'm the only sailor here!!! Where should I start? Oh Yes! American by birth, southern by the grace of god! Americans are set in their ways. It's a known fact. We are proud, big headed, hard headed, and honestly believe we are the best country on Earth! Okay so maybe it's true. But, lets get right down to it. Heres my standing on it. Where was the 240 designed? Japan. Where was the 240 built? Japan. And what side of the car do they drive on in Japan? The right side. Why? Cause the backwards! J/K!!! That's what I believe. Could be wrong, but I doubt it! HeHeHe! The 350Z. Having worked at a Nissan dealer for a little while I became privey to some info. The 350 was a combined effort between Nissan North America and Nissan Japan. The car was designed at Nissan Design International in Lojolla, California. Engineering took place in Michigan and Japan. And the preproductions were built in Japan. Some left, some right... What was first? Just as Alan says... It's busy under the drivers side of the bonnet on the lefties... Is it the same on the 350Z? Who knows? I just know they did some weird stuff under the hood. IE the battery placement. And 2many... I happen to think the 350 looks pretty good considering whats out there. Have you seen any of the domestics lately? GAG!!! That's my $.02 Hey Al... Did you know Your suppose to put Ice in Tea? And may I suggest some hush puppies instead of them 'ol stale crakers you're eatin'? HEHEHE...j/k...

hey guys what do you think of this car?
I'm lookin for... A 240Z..., doesn't have to run just most of the pieces, Not rotted out...the usual spots are O.K. just not holes through every panel especially roof and quarters, i'm not going to try and restore someones parts car. Now for the catch...$1500 and less preferably less. And I need it to be farely close to the western NY area...I'm in Buffalo. If it's a really good buy I'm capable of going as far Northern VA but probably NY or PA is more reasonable. Maybe I should wait a few years. I want a car to restore, If it's driveable now thats great but by the first snowfall It will be gutted and the process will begin. In the end she will be orange with black interior, 2.4 with header, cam, tripple carbs (mikunis, webers any suggestions), MSD ignition, tokicos or bilsteins all around, panasports, air dam, possibly small spoiler, maybe louvers, tint, decent stereo, and a definite award winner! I found these pictures on line once and haven't found the owner yet but I thought i was gonna die because he stole my idea...

Wow sounds like a great oppurtunity to refinish a piece of automotive history! Are you a VW fan? I'm sorry! JKROFL Like the title says I'm not an expert but... from what I understand... ...She is 14,946 car produced ...The L stands for left hand drive ...hey it's a sports car 4spd desireable but the autos were strong! ...P/S= panasport? are they similar to 8 spoke Empi's? If so they are probabl Panasports. ...I think the steeing wheel is stock ...Empi's are big on European cars, the Z is Japanese... personally I love Empi products, but not any that I know of for Z's. ...rear window vent? Louvers possibly? I dig 'em, others don't. ...engine #'s?????? ...I'd love to scoop it up from ya, but I'm 2500+ miles away. ...Sounds like you could shoot for $3000 plus. Good luck. P.S. I'm also a VW fan. How can you not love a cherry Oval or Split!!! or a slammed '65 with 5spoke empis and a luggage rack, or...
