240Z Auction - Barrett Jackson
Wow this thread has taken a great turn in discussing the merits and pricing of good unmolested orginal cars. I’m about to post my car on ebay please let me know what you all think. Here is the add I’m about to place with a link to over 50 pictures. Don't forget to play the price game so I can see if I'm in the ball park with my reserve. You are bidding on a 1971 Datsun 240Z the VIN number is HLS-3016977 with a manufacture date of 12/70 on the door tag. The color code is 905 found on the tag next to the radiator. This is an original, unmolested, no-repaint, original interior, no accident, 39,700 mile Series 1 car. All the stickers and chalk marks from the factory are still in place. I have all documentation to trace all owners, the original bill of sale, the first transfer of PA title, and all repair orders both from the dealer and from independent service centers over the last 38 years.. Photo’s of this car, the undercarriage and interior are available on http://s836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/Atannen/ this car is 99.99% original …the radio (AM/FM) is from another Datsun and the power antenna was changed. I have the original AM radio. The fuel pump has been replaced by and NOS part and the breaks have been replaced by NOS pads. The original rubber covers on the break bleeders were still on the car. The chrome passenger side mirror is incorrect for the car but is a Datsun part and was on there so we left it. The A/C is a port/dealer installed model I have all the instructions and warrantee card from the date of install. The wood grain appliqués on the console are an aftermarket item done by either the dealer or the first owner. You will note two controls on the console one is for the choke and one for the A/C, some A/C aftermarket kits of the time used this style. The arm rest was installed by the second owner and is and aftermarket item that can be taken out if you wish. The reflective tape on the rear hatch was applied by the original owner. Please remember that this is and an original car that is close to 40 years old so you do have some small nicks and scratches as you would with any used car. If you had a time machine and could go back in time to 1973 and buy an extremely nice used 1971 240Z, this one would be it. Like all good cars this car has a story to tell. On July 5th 1970 Donald Morway of Pineville, PA went down to “Rettenbaugh Motor Sport†in Ambler, PA and put $1000 down on a 1971 240Z that cost a total of $3715.00 including the A/C. Some time in early January 1971 he picked the car up (paid the balance) and began to enjoy his new ride. His first service was 3/24/71 with 606 miles on the car. Donald held the car until 1993 he serviced it regularly (have all service records) and drove it sparingly (when we bought the car I called him directly and he told us that he had 3 other cars and the 240 sat in a barn next to a 57 “T†bird). Donald serviced the car at the Datsun dealership named above until it closed or was sold. He then switched to Foss-Hughes Datsun in Doylestown PA. Sometime in the late 80’s Foss-Hughes became (or switched to) Thomson Nissan/Toyota in Doylestown and Donald became friendly with its service Mgr Jim McClusky. Jim bought the “Z†from Donald on June 6th 1993 (I have the title transfer papers) with aprox 28K on the clock. Jim serviced the car at the dealership (getting his employee discount) until February of 1997 when he auctioned the car off to a dealer in Point Pleasant NJ called “Wheels Of Timeâ€. At that time my friend Stu Rauchman was looking for the car of his youth a 240 Z, and asked me to help, one day searching the classic adds I saw that Wheels Of Time had a 240Z with only 33K on the clock. I went down, looked at it, called the previous owners and made the deal for Stu that day. On March 24th 1997 the “Z†found a new home with Stu Rauchaman in Marlboro NJ. Stu serviced the car with regular matenince until (marital issues) he was forced to sell the car in 1999. Ms Audrey Spader of Colts Neck, NJ bought the car in June of 1999 with the stipulation that if she needed to sell the car (we) Stu had the right of first refusal. Audrey again kept great service records etc. Some time in late 2000 Audrey needed to sell the Z and Stu bought it back from her and held on to it until Oct 2003 (marital issues) forced the sale of the Z again. Mr. Louis Amorosa of Piscataway NJ bought the car in October of 2003 again with the stipulation, that if he needed to sell the car (we) Stu had the right of first refusal. Louis like all owners before him kept great records and then in May of 2005 Louis had to sell the Z, (marital issues…). So on June 7, 2005 I (Adam Tannen) took title of the Z with 39,548 miles The car has spent the last four years or so in the garage (under a cover) next to my 71 Cutlass Convertible. As I have a family (read kids) the Z doesn’t get much use because it only fits two, I need to pass the Z on to a good home. I have posted some photos here but again please visit http://s836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/Atannen/ for over 50 more including details of the undercarriage and engine bay. Should you have any questions please e-mail atannen109@aol.com or call me @ 732-547-0145 anytime before 9pm eastern time.

240Z Auction - Barrett Jackson
Almost two years ago I sugested what Travel'n man says in this thread. I wasn't a memember at that time but said it to someone who was intrested in buying my 71 series 1 39K all orginal 240. (he was a mamber) He posted my remarks at the tiem and I was called all sorts of names. I got the word about what was said and joined the site. I spoke openly with Carl, Arnie and Mike about how this group could control the market as any good car gets discussed here. They all have said that price on cars good orginal cars today are much different than several years ago. Good orginal cars are getting harder and harder to find. I'm about to place my car on e-bay again and I hope to get around $20K+ for it. Here is a link with about 80 photo's http://s836.photobucket.com/albums/zz285/Atannen/

Low Mileage Series I on Ebay
"adam (CK1), no offense, and with all due respect...after eleven months, a downturn in the economy, and debate throughout the previous threads...... you're asking 12.5% MORE than your original ($20,000-Jan '08) price? ...($22,499 as advertised in the classifieds on this site) " 7277 No offence at all. I'm at $22.500 because everyone likes to get what they feel is a good deal...I would like around $20,000 for the car so at $22,500 there is room to move. BTW when I first posted on e-bay I had the reserve at $25K.....moved down the second time and now I'm here. As to the downturn in the economy and 11 months I will defer to Carl's post " I also want to remind everyone that this tread was started at the first of this year - and I believe all of us are now realizing that very clean, low mileage, stock and mostly original, unmolested examples have gained in value this year - as they become ever harder to find. I also believe that most of us realize the location of the car has a direct impact on its selling price - Z's on the West Coast sell for thousands less, than Z's in the North East, or indeed East of the Mississippi."

Low Mileage Series I on Ebay
First I need to thank Mike B for pointing me to this thread, Second I would like to apologize to anyone who I might have offended with my comments to Jerry...I had no idea that I was speaking to you all (Just Jerry) and I had no idea that I could learn so much from this forum. Next I think I need to take some time and explain where I was/am coming from with this car. I'm a collector/enthusiast of American muscle cars, I bought this car from for a friend who was separated from his wife. I only bought it because of the documentation and what I thought was a very very original car, based on all the info from the previous owners. During my two attempts to sell this car I have been asked for more pictures by more people than I can discuss here. I know the hobby is just that a hobby, but I was send out 40+ e-mails per day all just asking for pictures. Yes Jerry is correct I did send him that answer because during our conversation he told me, and please for give me I'm doing this from memory and paraphrasing "We have discussed your car on the boards and it's not worth $20K" at least that is what I heard. I was, as you can imagine, upset that some one who hasn’t seen my car could just make that blanket statement. I now know what he was talking about and what Carl as well as some others wrote, I would like to address some things that I believe are true about this car but may not fit Carls definition of original. 1. The car has not had a major part replaced,,,yes it has had a tune up etc but no other mechanical parts have been replaced or changed from those that came with the car when delivered. In my world of American cars that can't be said.. 2. The choke on the console with the A/C knob on the dash seem to be installed by the company contracted by the dealer to install the A/C. I have the warrantee and the instruction manual. The wood grain appliqué seem to be also added at that time. 3. Yes the driver side mirror has been added by a previous owner. But as far as I know it is Datsun part. 4. Yes the radio is a Datsun am/fm from another Datsun but I have the am from this car so no harm no foul 5. Detail the undercarriage. This was of some discussion in the thread here. What I did was wash down and road grime that had been on the car after I drove it the first time for undercarriage pictures. I dried the undercarriage off and used some dressing on any of the rubber so that it would be more photogenic. I would like to share those with you but they are lost in cyber space so I will redo them next week and send them to any on request. In closing I would just again like to thank Mike to pointing me in this direction and say that this is a great car for anyone who wants what I consider a more than average original. You all have or know what they are about and I guess I didn't know that there are still so many in this shape available.
