Great pictures of the RF choke coil, I can even count the turns of the coil. Someday if I can borrow one of those coils I can measure the uHy inductance so a new one can be purchased or made or somebody else could measure it. Here is an RF choke on eBay that would reduce interference and is rated at 2A but it might have less inductance than the 240Z choke meaning it might not work as well. It might be small enough to be mounted inside a fuse holder can't tell.

Looks like the spring is there in the radio fuse holder you have? Maybe two cylindrical fuses could be used in that existing fuseholder, maybe a short one and a longer one. Or to make a radio interference limit coil, I remember seeing one a long time ago. If I remember right it was a single layer of a small gauge enamel wire wrapped on a coil form. This might be more trouble than anyone would want to go to (I personally love these kinds of challenges) but if someone has a coil and can measure the number of turns and the gauge of the wire (or the uHy inductance value) maybe one could be made by wrapping that same gauge of wire around a deliberately burned out cylindrical glass fuse (a low amperage fuse so the fuse wire would be quite small to avoid interfering with the coil function) used as a coil form. The glass fuse would be slippery though for the wire to adhere to unless something sticky was put on it for the wire to stick to. Okay after this no help at all I am going back to watching a car show on TV. Picture of fuse holder with coil visible inside the fuseholder
  3. I made the Z choice decades ago due to the fun/price ratio, good looks etc. If I got desperate for a cheap sportscar I see 944s on craigslist cheap. Don't prefer the styling though.

I don't know if this idea would be of any use but I had an intermittent with my radio cutting on/off so I connected an analog voltmeter between ground and the radio circuit that I was having trouble with. I used wires with alligator clips on both ends. Then I propped up the voltmeter on the passenger floor so I could see it from the driver's seat.
  5. On my radio shack aftermarket power antenna I had to make a metal strap part to make it work because the mount on the bottom of the antenna was not in the right place. The strap was maybe 3 inches long and maybe 1/2 inch wide with a hole drilled in both ends with one end going on the original mount on the car while the other end was screwed onto the bottom of the new radio shack antenna. I remember that this slightly changed the angle of the antenna when the antenna is raised but I have never noticed it looking off when walking up to the car.
  6. For sure it would be weaker IMO. I took the liberty of zooming in for a closeup and notice there is metal wear on the lever arm, I wonder if it could be bent away from the frame it is rubbing on if that makes sense? The lever arm would need to be bent away from the viewer just a little as viewed in your picture.
  7. A friend keeps me updated on plots. Hypothetical situation: I am in my Z with a horde of zombies approaching from a block away. Taking pity on them to make things fair I unplug 4 spark plug wires. The question is do I successfully escape the approaching zombies or am I lunch?

The original speaker in my 71 240Z I used to have didn't make an air tight seal against the plastic panel that covered it, I am no audiophile but if the speaker could somehow be sealed around the edges of the speaker the bass would sound better (better tone). I agree, the original radio I had in my '71 Z sounded horrible.

More information would help. I believe the original switch is a single pole double throw momentary switch center off (spring loaded to the center off position). Some of that may be redundant not sure of exact proper terminology. Do you have a picture of the antenna mast that you installed?
  10. The heater in a friend's 240Z didn't work because the stiff control wire going from the control lever on the dash to the heater valve popped off on the end that was attached to the dash control lever. For temporary heat until the control wire could be fixed I just turned the heater valve above the passenger's left foot with my hand.
  11. I got a couple of them from JC Whitney around 1979 for the '71 240Z I had back then. I couldn't make them fit right and sent them back.

Maybe the gas pedal got stuck
  13. Could this work on a 240Z and you would use two of them? Would you just need to supply 12 Volts, 45 PSI fuel and new throttle linkage?

Similar story here except for the time since replacement, I snapped a bolt on my Z's water pump when replacing it a few years ago and have been driving it all over, no leaks. I put anti seize on the bolt threads when they went back in (can't remember if I used new bolts).

I could make that scenario a win-win by towing my Z with my other car though that might be bending the rules if i can only save one car. The Lambo would be in trouble.

I need to find one wrecked/flooded a little worse to get one down to my price range. My dad bought/sold a flooded Tempest around 1966, I think a result from a hurricane. I remember he asked me for reasons why the radio would not work. I told him the speaker might be the culprit.
  17. This is going to make it look like I watch TV all the time... but, I was watching Bithin' rides today and caught a few seconds of them driving a 2?0Z and they mentioned it had a turbo. They were exclaiming it was fun to drive. I saw season 2 listed I assume this is season 2. The Z was silver in color but wasn't on screen long enough for me to decide to figure out what model it was.
  18. It was a mail in valuation.
  19. The TV show "What's my Car Worth" featured a '74 260Z yesterday Oct 5 2016. They came up with $15,000 for that particular 260Z.

Not too late to restore it to stock...

Just saw a Wheeler Dealer episode on the Velocity channel today, 2 Oct 2016, where they worked on a yellow 240Z. They did a cam regrind to stage 1, took out the AT and replaced it with a 5 Spd, overhauled the carbs and put in a header. They showed them driving it before and afterwards. The DirecTV guide listed 2015, I assume that is when it first aired. Only English copy I can find is for sale for online viewing, no free viewing that I can find. In non english, the first 35 min 10 seconds of that show are here: (season 12 episode 6) http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50923-wheeler-dealers-240z/?page=2

Before I got married i was terrified of women. After I got married I realized my fears were justified. :-)
  23. I ran into a similar thing. The new gas filler hose I bought for my '70 240Z was too long as well, can't remember how much too long but it made a bit of a forced narrowing closure of the hose to make it fit. If I look straight down in the hose now it is slightly closed off down towards the tank. Doesn't hurt anything.

Zilch. Its sort of a zen thing.
  25. until

How many people usually show up? How many Z's show up? Decades ago I was a member of ZONC before I moved away, not sure I would know anyone in the club today.
