  1. When I replaced my w ater pump on a '70 I wish I had been more gentle in backing the bolts out, might have avoided breaking one off. If there is a next time for my car I will rock the bolts back and forth getting them out though I put the new pump on with new bolts minus one bolt and nary a leak.
  2. I got lucky one summer afternoon a few years ago in a salvage yard in Idaho and pulled r ear lights out of a '71. I will keep them in case of a rear end collision. That same salvage car yielded the stock steering wheel that is in my car now though it was for a '71 and I have a '70.
  3. Drove up to Eureka Calif and back home, nice pleasant drive with the radio playing through the twin 8" speaker box I have in back. Very fun drive, car ran great.
  4. Montezuma, KYBs are on the 240Z I have now and I had them on the one I used to have. I am not an aggressive driver but they have been fine on both cars. I have never been on a track. Mike
  5. Drove down to get my Z inspected for new license plates since I moved to California where my Z originally came from. There is a nice hill not far from here, my z was singing as it went up that hill it was running so good at 75. What fun! I flat trailered the Z to California for the move and by odd coincidence my new neighbor spotted it on the freeway as I headed for my new place. He has since come over and looked at it.
  6. The brakes smoked 30 years ago on my first Z and it turned out that the brake piston got stuck.

I made one out of a piece of radiator hose clamp with a sement ground off in a bench grinder so that two ears stick out. Hope that made sense.

Try pushing/pulling the turn signal stalk towards you and away from you.
  9. They sell "parts grabbers" that look like a long spring with a spring loaded angled wire jaws on the end that might work though that hole might be too small. A skinny long stiff steel wire (or copper?) with a V shaped bend on the end might work. Or cut a hole (shudder) behind the control box? A long wire with a very strong magnet attached if there is anything ferrous? If a door hinge bolt is removed is that in the right place to fish something through? Maybe a wire with gorilla tape on it facing out. I have used a vacuum cleaner to fish things out of places, not sure I see how to make that work here though. All the ideas I have.
  10. I have been inside one of the barns, I think there is just one. The barn is packed with Zs and there were many Zs outside as I recall from being there 5 years ago. The barn roof appeared to have a few holes but the cars seemed to be holding up well from what I saw. Most of them had some kind of damage from a wreck if I remember right but not sure that is true for all of them.
  11. What I discovered is that the charger I had wanted to overcharge causing acid to come out. I bought a battery tender and it doesn't overcharge the battery so it does not release acid. My thinking is that the battery tender has smarter voltage sensing so it does no harm.
  12. Little known tech secret, batman's batmobile had the time machine option. It was expensive, but well worth it.
  13. Chris, You are right there are a lot of good parts. If it doesn't sell it is coming to California with me. I already removed the dash and instruments and stainless steel parts. The parts are coming with me for sure. Mike
  14. Not sure who would want to know this but my 1972 parts car is for sale on craigslist for $100. I don't want to have to move it when I move. 240Z parts car
  15. Throwing dynamite seems a better option than laying on top of it (near the end).
  16. I think I will abandon the car cover idea. Thanks for the ideas. I have a car I keep covered (not the Z) and the wind started wearing off the paint so I got those large spring clips to hold the cover tightly on at the wheel wells and both bumpers which probably helps with minimizing paint wear but it looks like that would not work for towing.
  17. Has anyone towed a 240Z for 800 miles with a car cover on it? I like to keep my car out of the sun when I can though I know that a car cover flapping in the wind can wear off paint. I do have a very soft cover that I could attach with strong spring clips at the wheel wells.

I have noticed in Oregon that some stations sell their premium as non ethanol. In Idaho I always burn non ethanol but I have to go to one of a few stations to get it.

    That looks really nice.
  20. Don't have a tranny here but someone has one on a local craigslist. 1980 Datsun 280zx Engine and Transmission Are you anywhere near the Humboldt county area? I bolted a rear bumper on my car to replace the fiberglass one that came with the car. I had pulled the new to me bumper off of a parts car and cleaned it up.
  21. I check the classifieds infrequently maybe every month but I don't need parts right now. Because I can't make the search function for forums work that well I like the current classifieds better than having the classifieds as a forum. I might be the lone ranger on this one.
  22. This is the original fascia nut and odd looking squarish washer that came out with it: One of the captive nuts on the fascia on my car was stripped out so to fix that I made my own captive nut by cutting a rectangle shape out of a repair metal from Thrifty hardware and drilling and tapping it for the 4MM original machine screw. I used a bench grinder to make the new nut have the same size as the original and to have the beveled edges the original has. The existing machine screw size is 4 MM and according to my drill and tap sheet the drill size to use for tapping is 1/8" (or 3.3MM) which worked well. The fascia nuts I had were stripped out bad enough that I could not be sure what the pitch was so I won't list that to avoid posting inaccurate info. The existing captive nut can be easily removed by prying open the two metal retainer strips that are in front of and in back of the nut that hold it captive. I had to use care to pry the strips just far enough so that the stripped nut was removable as otherwise the new nut would want to fall out if the strips were sprung out.
  23. My learning experience with poor grounds doing weird things was with an old Pontiac my late dad had. When you hit the brakes the interior lights on the door would come on. I never forgot that lesson.
