  1. I think I am going to buy the new chrome trim anyways, its fairly scratched up and I makes no sense to have new paint, new seal, new glass and a beat up trim strip. I am going to have to find a windsheild guy in the Atlanta area that knows how to do this, however.
  2. Getting all the glass out and ready for paint, it seems impossible to re-use the chrome trim. Is there some sort of secret to this? I am being as careful as poss and the thin trim still bends and tweaks, pretty sure I will need to order new ones.

Ive had 2 240s in the past. I like the 280 for the FI & better console/dash layout. Both are great cars, and to each his own. As far as rust goes, they all rust just fabulously! My sons and I have got this one up on jack stands this weekend and have started taking parts off, amazing condition, must have been garaged most of the time, as even the bumper and exterior trim bolts and screws have very little rust or corrosion on them. Looking forward to getting a proper paint job on her.

Probably going to keep the huge bumpers, the car is just too darn nice to start modding it- I should have bought a rust bucket ! I need to get the rear rechromed, and the rubber parts are a little cracked. The rear window louvers are cool, IMO. They stick to the glass w 2 sided tape, actually. There is a little tiny key lock for raising to clean the glass. You can find them on ebay occassionally.

I drove it 6 hours back from NC, 70-90 all the way. With the 4 speed the passing response is instant. Ran like a top. I want to get the new paint on for spring. Only thing that bugs me are the bumpers- ruins an otherwise classic shape. I have looked into changing to 240 bumpers however I dont want to mod the rear end (fill holes, etc) because the car is so nice. Replacement rubber parts for the bumpers are really expensive (about $1800 for all 6 parts, F & R. So no easy options there.

Hi- had several Zs prior, but just took the dive again. Been lurking a while on this site, now I have work to do! Just bought this Z which I found in NC while on a business trip. It was so clean I just had to buy it. I know how hard it is to find a Z that is not rusted up, this one is 98% rust free, floors, rails, spare tire well, all are just as it left the factory in 1975. There are a few very small spots in the usual places behind a couple of wheels, thats it. Here's the particulars: 110K originals miles Painted once, orig color Perfect interior, no cracks in dash, everything works, even the clock! Seat recovered in correct pattern. Original carpet & spare Panasport wheels Tokico struts and springs Energy Bushings all around Axes and U joints rebuilt Toyota front calipers Larger MAF Headers & MSA 2.5" exhaust New raditor All hoses replaced Came with a folder 2 inches thick with all reciepts since new, plus the original window sticker! Right now Im just cleaning up a few items. Plan is to fix the bubbles, strip all exterior parts and put a nice paint job on it. Also like to swap out for a 5 speed at some point. I could just drive as is, but the car is such a time machine that it deserves a 100 percent body and paint job. I am really enjoying working on Datsuns again. I have several german cars but they are so expensive to tinker with. Anyways, this board has been a huge help, hope to contribute at some point. Cheers!

THis is what I mean- the rubber has shrunk and cracked due to age, etc. The rest of the car is 99% just perfect, so I guess Im going to have to bite the bullet and pay thru the nost for NOS parts.

Yes, the prices for the new rubber parts are just insane.

Ive read all the threads on the coil & resistor. I dont get it- if the purpose of the resistor is to protect the points, then why is there a resistor on my 75 car with EI?

Correction- to replace all 3 parts of the rubber trim over the front and rear bumpers on the 75 model is around $ 2000- these parts are only NOS and apparently are not being repro'd. The corners alone are around $300 each from MSA. The parts on the car now look bad (30 years of aging) with cracks and shrinkage, dont do the car justice as the rest of the car is perfect. Including the rechrome of the rear, Im looking at having $2,500 into bumpers! So, im looking for alternatives!

Thanks for the help. I knew the shock holes would have to be filled, but there are several elongated oval opennings that run from horizontally from the left to right, was hoping the early bumper would cover those. the more I look at those huge chrome bumpers the more I think I need to mod them somehow. I have had several mid-70s cars in the past and it always amazed me that the car designers could not have come up with a better alternative than simply hanging a huge piece of metal off the ends of a car.

Just purchased an extremely clean 75 280Z. Great shape, will post some pics later. The rear bumper needs re-chroming due to muffler fumes fading the chrome above the tailpipe. Front is perfect. The issue is all the rubber parts have shrunken and/or faded over time as they will do. These are very expensive and hard to find pieces for the 75 cars. Including rechroming the rear, I could easily have $1,000 into the front and rear bumpers. Going with 240 bumpers is a hassle too, as either they are very expensive new or will require similar work to the chrome and rubber parts if used. And, I really dont like the look of the after 72 bumpers anyways. IMO, it takes away from the really clean lines of these cars. Im not going to seriously cut up a nice clean Z but not hung up on 100% originality either. I like the lightly modded look, and was thinking of going to fiberglass MSA bumpers. Once I take ther rear off, there are many holes for the shock units and several other large openings (stock) in the rear valence. Will the early repro bumpers cover up these holes or will they need patching with metal/glass? I think this would be a good swap- any comments?
  14. Ever use a ShamWow? They are great....
  15. Hi- I just bought #2 from you- sent you a Pay Pal- thanks.
