  1. I am sure it is safer for a number of reasons.... First there is someone there to pull you from the wreckage, should an accident happen. second there are no kids or dogs on the track. and third the speed is probably not greater, if it's a race for real the limit is when the motor blows, or you reach your limit.

Iagree. Whoever did the custom work did a very impressive job. I can't say it's for me.. But still very impressive.
  3. Sure I used to race all the time.. I used to get a ticked a month, or more. Used to be a week never went by without maxing my car out at least once. I had my old 280 to over 145 more than once. Nice running car. I hit a large doe at about 75 once, thank god it fell down before I hit it. Been off the road sideways more than once at 100+ ran through a corn field once at 105 on a motorcycle. Glad it was already harvested. Of course Most of this was years ago I have not had a ticket in years. I try to drive more carefully now, but If I just wanted look at my car and admire the shine and drive quickly. I might as well sell to some one. If I was going to drive it like a family bardge I can think of many more comfortable and practical rides. As far as holding on for investment value, youd be better of investing in real estate. I doubt if theres any profit after you consider the money and time invested. That only leaves fun for a reason to own one of these cars. I like Zcars.. alot. But it's not a religion. I could be just as happy with one of several other sports cars, zcars just fit my budget and circumstance.
  4. Looks like the yellow is a good candidate for being a convertible. Sorry you busted your car, but now it seems like you are trying to preach to everyone else about the thing you did to bust your car. I agree street racing is a thing no one should do especislly if they have bad jugement, or drive like idiots. But it's like masturbation, theres two kinds of people ,,,, those that do it and and those that lie about it.
  5. I have a '73 and the exhaust ports are square on the 73 with an E88 head. You may have the wrong header with round ports.
  6. I think we all know we should not street race. I try not to.... I usually manage not to drive like I did when I was in my teens and twentys, and thirtys, and well you get the picture. I had to restrain myself this morning on the way to work, if you call bailing at 65 in a 35 bailing. twenty years ago there would have been no bailing out the sky was the limit... MaybeI am wiser? but I have to agree that the reason I drive a sports car is to thrash it about, slide through a few corners, burn a little rubber. And the track isn't always there when I am in the mood. Mostly I just want to enjoy the thing that makes it a sports car. and that ain't pretty paint. Also I did not want to shock any one, but Honda's and Datsuns are made in the same country. Back when I was young the Datsuns were called "rice rockets". As for the kids.... we were young too ... some of still are. Have fun.. Play safe.. Be nice... and kick thier butts when it safe.
  7. My car looked like a swiss cheese compared to the one in the pictures. I paid twice as much for mine.. It's a good deal.. Wow I need a faster connection. Next time use a lower resolution for the pictures..

Yeah.. I know I should, but it's a mater of priority. I plan to rebuild long before this baby blows apart any way. And I would much rather spend my money on more toys. The filters will cost about 100.00, and I can apply that to fun parts. My long term is to build a punched out 280 block. Still debating if I want to use a 280 crank or a 240 crank. I like the way the shorter stroke runs. But any way there is another engine in my future. I hope. Funds dependant you know.

I agree... Make sure to adjust both upper and lower limit for the float. I recently had the same problem and found that one of my floats was droppind down too far. This could sometimes allow the needle to jam and allow unrestricted fuel flow into the carb. I found this usually happened after running the car hard.

I am not currently running any filters, and am not concerned about it. I would from time to time run them on my previous zcar. I do not run the car in a dusty environment and would agree that the engine life might suffer some. But I managed over 300,00 miles on my last car and sold it running strong. I can live with a failure after that many miles. Gives me a chance to rebuild and add some more performance parts. But if I ran in a dirty environment I would certainly run filters, probably K&N's, but any would beat none in that situation.

I spoke to Mike at Pierce manifolds, and he recomended 30mm chokes. I was thinking more like 32mm, but I defaulted to their greater experience and ordered the 30's. I will let you know how this works out when I get them.

    The carbs are 40DCOE -18

forgot to mention... I did add a carter fuel pump. It made no difference. About the springs, wouldn't they cause me to be unable to reach the upper range at all times. Before I added the carbs and headers (Motorsport 2.5" 6-2-1) the car would rev easily to arround 7000, now it won't . It does seem to pull harder in the mid range, I just want my full range back. I'm probably missing something... but ????

I did not check the accelerator pump specs, because I did not see how they would come into play at the upper rpm range. Perhaps a mistake. I had a set of tripple webers on a 280z that I had a few years ago. They were bought new, and setup for the car. They performed great, no problems at allafter learning to synchronize them. I bought these on ebay, and they had set quite a while. I did however rebuild them and clean them. I did not however recalibrate them, and hoped they wouldn't need it since they came off of a zcar. I became convinved that this may be my problem when I noticed that if I do not depress the throttle all of the way the rpm gets to 6500 .. no problem, although a bit slower than one would hope for. I decided this was a clue that the mixture was incorrect. I also am getting a bit lower mpg than I thought I should.. about 14 mpg. I dont know how much since this makes added together.

I think I have narrowed a performance issue with my 240 not revving as high as it should to carburator jetting. Although I could still be chasing the wrong cause. I have a stock motor except for carbs and headers. The carbs are tripple 40mm webers with the following setup. Choke = 26mm Main = 130 air comp = 170 Emulsion tube = f11 aux = 4.5 needle = 175 idle = 40/45 f9 Does this look correct for a 240 motor? I am suspecting the choke size and emulsion tubes are incorrect.

What if you have a great car but drive like grandma.. Ha Ha! Weight is important, I have had both 280 and 240. I like the way a 240 runs, but a 280 is a much more comfortable ride, either way they can both be made to run quite well. My 280 weighed about 2500 after a bit of stripping, Ihave managed to get my '73 down to 2240. The 280 was faster, but also had many more modifications. I raced 240's with my 280 and believe that if both are stock the 280 would be hard pressed to keep up 240 below 100mph. The 280 might come arround at higher speed. have fun

I am running the tripple setup on my 240. This is the second set I have installed, the first was on a 280. I agree that there is a learning curve for the setup. But once you figure it out they really are a great solution. They are reliable, and do add some to the performance without any other changes. The mileage can be bad if you dont control your foot, but this is not an economy car, and fuel consumption is not not my biggest concern.

I installed a summit fuel cell, I removed the space well and installed a flat floor in the back of the car. I also installed a place in the floor for the sump to go. My experiance has been mostly good. I did run only one line to the front, and vented though the floor. I have had no problems from fumes in the car, of noticed any differance from raised center of gravity. But, I wish I had bought the cell that was inclosed in alluminum instead of the all plastic cell. The plastic cell has begun to sag in the middle. Probably because of the sun heating it through the rear window. I also think it would have added more stiffness to the rear of the car. The spare well adds considerable strength to the back of the car. Good luck.

Yes I did, I will probably do it again this week end. I love that job, I don't know why but somehow it's very relaxing. I may also look into replacint the suply wire to the ignition circuit with something a little heavier.

I wondered about this also, I even constructed a heat shield to help ensure that this was not a likely cause. I also feel that the added capacity provided by the electric pump has lowered this as a likely cause. I ordered an aluminum radiator yesterday, this may not have been necessary, but it certainly will not hurt. I keep thinking that maybe it's a weak spark issue, but with a new coil, and distributer somehow that is hard to support.

I have a 1973 240z, Current setup is three webers, Motorsport headers, Malory dual point. (yeah I know obsolete) but I am an old guy and like tunning my engine. The car runs fine when cool to med warm and has no trouble getting to about 6500 rpm. But after reaching normal oerating temp it feels like I'm hitting a rev limiter at about 5200rpm. I'v tried timing changes, fuel octane changes, added a new fuel pump (carter electric) readjusted everything I can think of. I'm running out of new ideas. Any thoughts?
