Reccomended clutchs?
I have never found the stock clutch to be inadequate.... Under 200 hp you do not need more than stock... That is of course if you use the clutch properly.. I find too many people want to try for a tire spin in second and even third gear. This is not good for your equipment, and does not get you down the road any faster.. It just destroys clutches.. A good fresh clutsh will easily put down more rubber in first gear than you need or want to deploy... After all if you are spinning the tires you are making a good show for others, but you are not putting the car down the road, just making smoke. The goal of a aggressive take off is to beat the competition,, execessive tire spin is not to your advantage... Tire spin is only used to keep the engine in the optimum power band during the take off. If all goes well the tires will grap quickly and the car will be propelled down the track... In second gear there is no need to spin the tires, because when you shift the engine should fall right into the right RPM for the power to be on tap... thus a tire spin now will only be a waste of time and a waste of equipment... Always alow the clutch to seat before applying power,,, and your clutch will probably never fail again.. I have put well over 200,000 miles on stock cutches , and driven agressively the whole time.... It's the method not the equipment...You can burn out any clutch, if it is used improperly.. Nuf said.. I will now step off of the soap box.

sad day at the crusher
True sad, but the deminishing numbers only makes the remaining units more valuable...

I'm a traitor... the ennemy within...
No... I will probably look in from time to time.. The discussions have been good... I have also joined a corvette page, to begin learning how to live with the new kind of beast.... My Z will go if someone buys it.. I have way too much money in it to just give it away... So who knows I may have it for a while..

Did Nissan ever Supercharge?
Heck, a motor is just a source of power.... If you could run faster and perform better on the track with any piece of hardware better than any other piece... Then deciding to stay away from it based on some misguided sence of loyalty to a brand name, or theology ,,, only ensures your losing the race.... If that is not your goal why drive a sports car??? Speed knows no religion.... as I have heard somewhere before,, "If your not winning , you are losing"" If the goal is fun, and you are not having enough fun get a new box to play with... Datsun, Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus, Corvette.... It really does not matter... The trick is what works for you.... The guys that designed these cars did not go home at night an kiss their designs... They did it for the money, and their families.... Had another company offered them more they would have worked for the competition....Thats the key word competition.... I do not believe that any automobile is any more than a tool... If it does a great job, and is efficient, great. But if you have to bust your arse to make it almost keep up with a car costing half as much,,,, who is winning?? Sorry guys, I have joined the ranks of corvette owners... I may not be the fastest, But I feel good... Z for sale anyone???? I have one now..

For sale
I am probably selling out... I am just having too much conflict between the family needs and the car in the garage... I like working on the car. But I like it to be when I want too not when I need to..... I have also found a great deal on a Vette.... Sorry guys but I guess I am too lazy for this fight any more.... If anyone wants a '73 with lots of brand new good parts, that runs like a scalded dog let me know.... I guess I am just getting lazy in my old age...... It's been fun. See ya at the track Steve.

Need Quick Rear-end Help Please!!!
I have made all of my solid mounts.... Just take the old parts from a broken unit, burn out all of the rubber with a torch, and weld some steel in where the rubber was... Easy as cake... and almost free, (my favorite price).

Arrrrrr my bonnet doesn't open!
I had this problem on my 280 several years ago... I made a tool from 3/4" X 1/8" flat stock... Maybe 30 to 36 inches long.. It was notched, bent, and rewelded to make a shape somewhat like a C that curved back the other way on top... I ground the end to fit into the hole at the botton of the latch... It took a bit of trial and error but worked great when finished. I opened the hood by sliding my arm under the car and slipping the tool up from below. once I found the hole it opened right up.

Tuners
Yeah I know about the all show guys and the guys that had cars that could really do something other than make a lot of noise.... Even when I was a young guy in the late sixties and early seventies there were mostly cars with loud exhausts and fat tires jacked way up in the air.... I remember seeing before that the really strange ones that had the front jacked up high and the rear dragging the ground.... who thought of that???? I guess the reality of this whole discussion is that every generation uses the equipment available, mixed with thier own skills to find out where they stand on this image versus real performance thing.... Heck when I was young , there was a constant conflict of interests between the cars and the girls..... Depending on where my head was ( not up my arse ) one or the other took priority at that time.... I found that cars were more predictable... and sometimes more fun..... but not always.... and cars were cheaper,,,, but not always... I guess the thing is growing up is a bitch for all of us.... Priorities are hard to get into place .... and when you do , sometimes you hate the answer.... Getting pretty deep??? isn't it Wait I will get my boots..... I amm seriously looking at buying a Miata... My Z is a a total bitch.... It kicks arse without a doubt, but It also consumes tooo much gas,, and tooo much time , and is not alwasys there for me when I need it... I have yound kids,,,( I started late, ) And I am maybe being too consumed by this whole Z thing to see what really counts... I love the Z and may not sell it , unless someone wants to pay enough to get my interest... But the idea of having a trouble free car that is economical, and can kick my Z's arse any day at the autocross is hard to resist.... Sorry for the BS ,,,, But when I see that the discussions sometimes get so intense.... I wonder where my real priorities should be.... After all we are all just passing through this world,, lets make the passing easy for all.

""">":*&&*%^&^%^#$
And another one Damn. This morning I fouled a plug right after starting my trip to work.... And it never picked up again... About ten miles... Boy am I pissed... I only hope I didn't screw up the cylinder too much.... I think I am looking for better plugs.... I know the NGK mantra.... Damn again.... I sure hope I fires when I get ready to go home, or I will no doubt lose it....

Advice for me??
I can only say that after reading previous discussions. The decision has to be made based on how you use the car, and what other parts are on the car... I recommend reading other previous discussions on this site.... There was a lot of good info, that you can use to make your decision...

PCV and Smog systems removal '73 240z
Unless you are trying to create a fully restored car, there is no reason to keep any of that Junk... Normally I would say park a trash can next to the car, and fill it up.... But some of the other members of this site may want those power robbing parts.... Just remember to plug any holes left in the intake system when they are removed, and everything should work out fine..

Tuners
Gee ,,, I just do not see the reason for the angst.... You must have been a kid once, maybe been a little too arogant... Maybe made a mistake or two,,, or three.... Heck I even owned a 63 corvair once.... slowest thing on the raod back then... I raced it for all it was worth.... Must have got it to 60 once or twice..... These young guys will grow up and most of the ones that don't go to jail will be driving old taurus station wagons full of new kids in a few years .... Don't rain on their parade... Truth be known most of them really admire your Z.... Pay attention when you drive by. The stares are not them laughing at you.... every car enthusiast appreciates a classic.... Chilll let them grow for a while..... someday they will be us,,, and we will be old codgers... I need another drink now.... BY

You guys give good advice
You are right that the only cars that can command a high resale (today) are the very pristeen cars.. But from my point of view a car is a consumable.. A perfert car that I am afraid to drive or scratch is of no use to me... Why have a race horse to just look at... It was meant to run like the wind... I am sure there is investment potential in many Zcars out there, But who really wins.... The guy that seldome if ever drives his car, and never runs it hard... Or the guy that uses it daily and kicks it for all it's worth regularly.. and arrives with a grin from ear to ear many times a week.... I will live with the rust, and fun.... A shine don't make my car go any faster...

Heck I would be happy with a well built 2.8 and no NOS... My old 280 could easily get to 145 mph,,, Might have even gone a little faster. Thats enough for my daily driver..

triple Weber setup for sale
They would have to be better than awsome to be better. For the same price I would pick the webers.. There is a reason why they are the choice for cars like Ferrari, Lamborgini, Lotus, Etc... Just an opinion...

Oil leak problems?
Clean the engine with some foamy engine brite, or other method, and locallize the leak location. Also when you park the car put a piece of paper under the car , or park in new location.. Take note of where the leak is coming from... The front main is an easy repair. You will be lucky if this is the only leak.... My car seems to be leaking, because there is some on the outside of the block. But I can make it between oil changes without adding oil, so old zcars do not enherently consume oil... Replacing the oil pan gasket is a more difficult repair if needed. But can be done without removing the engine.. The rear main is a pain because you will have to remove the transmission... Your first step must be to locate the cause of your leakage... Then procede accordingly.. Check your plugs also, if they are not showing a lot of deposits, and or oil you are probably right that you are not burning the oil. Good luck...
