St. Louis Metro Area Members Question for Area
Yep, Im here in St. Louis... and I dont directly know of any shops, but... Mark at Zee Works ((636) 942-3846) in Imperial MO (not far, near Fenton) can point you in the direction of a good rebuilder. He also has a barn full of parts including heads and motors if yours is too far gone. Mon-Thurs is the only time you can get ahold of him... he is, well knowledgeable... at least he can provide some input. -zee ya, Todd

1972 240Z AM/FM Reinstall HELP
If all connections are tight, check to see if you have power... Push the vol. knob and see if the little blue light lights up behind the AM/FM markings on the faceplate. The radio should also have a inline fuse, check that to see if it is blown. When I got my 1st '72 the radio would not make a sound, i played with the vol knob to loosen 23 years of storage dust off the internals and then glorious mono sound. If your Z seems untouched then the speaker wiring should be intact, but there may be a break in it somewhere. Tap into the speaker wire near the radio with a speaker and see if that makes any difference. Good luck, Todd

Photos answer a 1000 Z questions - Help!
Check the area near the inspection lid next to the washer fluid canister. The plate was moved halfway during the '74 model year. This is where is is on my dads '74 1/2 260Z.

Kia Sportage weatherstip rocks!
Just did this today, picked up a set from Pick-n-Pull for $5.83! My oem rubber was toast, so I started with the passenger side. The Kia weatherstrip went on super easy, I cut it at the bottom like the oem one. I was able to get the trim plate back on but it is not flush against the rocker. I moved my striker plate inward for a nice tight fit at the back. My only problem is the front edge of the window frame one spot has a two nickle thickness gap. I'm gonna tinker with it but overall it is a good fit. -Todd -FYI, Pick-n-Pull has a parts tracker on their website that will show what they have instock and when they got it in. The St. Louis yard had 2 Sportages. I got them off a '98 that was barely picked on.

What is youir favorite driving music-if you don't see it, post it!
"You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" -Bachman-Turner Overdrive. -This was the first song my dad heard in his original 260Z when he pulled off the dealer lot in 1974. The day we finnished work on his replacement 260Z in 2005 it was on the radio. And the day I drove my Z home, it was on, so that makes it our Z driving song.

Positive battery terminal safety tip
Wow, I just had that problem, my Z (for the first time) left me stranded at a gas station. I used the vinyl tool pouch tucked between the battery and fender, but that solution almost looks stock, kinda like the gas tank flap...

E-Mailed Top Gear
It would be great to see a modern day comparison on the Z and its competitor's from back in the day. And hell, how awesome would it be to see The Stig in a S30!!! Top Gear is a great show but I can only igmagine what they might do to the Z twords the end...

72 Center Console Connections??
some of the plugs in the console area are for corner marker lights ("rear fogs")and fog/Driving lights for the front (red+green or black wires), pre-wired for the other markets Z's were sold. How are your turn signals working?, I don't see the film canister sized factory flasher unit on your column. also do you have a key in reminder buzz, its also on the column near the flasher unit. The two sets on plugs near the coulmn may be for those... Todd

72 Center Console Connections??
Could it be that your '72 did not have the "Fasten seatbelts" warning light and that pannel was replaced later with a later one?, looking at the harness from my 11/72 I do not see any square 4 plug... Do you have retractible seatbelts or the non retractable ones?

Per-Spec mag 16x7 group buy idea!
What the Primer or the Wheels..., I think it was the size of the tires on the wheels (fairly skinny). I like the 5 slots (kinda done to death though on Z's) like the Shelby Cal 500's, I'd love to find a set of American Racing Libre's (woah!) --Then again I always was a fan of The Dukes of Hazzard... what do you think.. "The General Zee". I have this one I need 3 more... <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/42150949@N07/4312569053/" title="100_2016 by Pleiner87, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4039/4312569053_6ac863eac1.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="100_2016" /></a> And here it is now next to my dads blue 260 with the Shelby Cal 500's... <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/42150949@N07/4312543888/" title="100_1989 by Pleiner87, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4031/4312543888_745e5f3223.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="100_1989" /></a>

Vote for the 240Z to appear in Forza 3!
The BRE Z is in my storefront (Pleiner87) for free, the EAS is still undergoing changes to decals to get them as close as possible. The BRE is listed as (John Morton BRE Z 46) for whoever that wants it. And Vote vote vote, for the 240Z!

Vote for the 240Z to appear in Forza 3!
Yeah sure, my gamertag is Pleiner87, I have not tuned the car at all... yet. Making the 46 text as close as I could took for ever. Here is the #11 EAS Z, im still not 100% happy with some of the text but ill deal with that later. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/42150949@N07/4309938652/" title="EAS_Datsun_240Z by Pleiner87, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2733/4309938652_2f9db98510.jpg" width="500" height="281" alt="EAS_Datsun_240Z" /></a> I had seen someone with the #5 Rally car that was amazing, if you look through the photo storefront you can see his car and he also has graphics for sale.

Per-Spec mag 16x7 group buy idea!
Wow, Thats the set that was on my '72... I never really cared for their look on the car I thought they looked kinda small. I removed them and put on the stock steel wheels and hubcaps, they are now in a nice dry spot in the basement... <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/42150949@N07/4308296918/" title="100_1927 by Pleiner87, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2740/4308296918_bf3b47a2fe.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="100_1927" /></a>

Vote for the 240Z to appear in Forza 3!
I spend more time on Forza 3 making graphics and designs on the cars than I do racing. It would be great to see a 240Z in game to create our own true to life Z cars. Here is my #46 John Morton BRE Datsun on the '69 432 (If you have the game and would like this let me know I'll send it to you free) I am also working on a #11 East African Safari Z (should have it done tonight!) <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/42150949@N07/4308226044/" title="BRE_Datsun_240Z by Pleiner87, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2697/4308226044_cb426a9724.jpg" width="500" height="281" alt="BRE_Datsun_240Z" /></a>

I have a 904 White / Red '72 as well, and i've seen my share of white/red '72 just over the last year on ebay (15+ for shure). If there are just 1500 in our color combo then we need to start the exclusive White Z Club;)!

Best Z Barn Find
nothing beats finding #13, but I found my parts Z on creigslist that had been in a garage since 1983. It is 918 orange with the '72 only white interior color combo and was built 11/71. When it came time for me to find a driveable Z I picked up a 72 the same build month and their vins are 3693 apart. perfect parts swap!

Period Correct Louvers!
I have the shadow shade with the two rubber cushions per slat, but after years of sun on it the rubber had dryrotted. What I did was cut some aquarium air tube about an inch long with a slit on one side and sliped it onto the slat where ever a cushion was.

Tamiya 1/12th scale Z
ha, I was watching that kit on ebay as well... forgot to bid... I had seen a converson kit on ebay years ago ('04-'05?) the kit had the LHD dash, headlight buckets, lower pan, bumper, steering raack, and other various items to make a LHD S30. I have 3 of the kits 1 G-nose and 2 Safari Z's that had been built years ago and are in rough shape, Ive been working to "restore" those kits.

My cash for clunkers program

240Z Auction - Barrett Jackson
From what the ad shows its a one owner 73 240 with 71,000 miles with documentation. It does not say repaint but the orange looks too good to be all original... All in all a clean looking car with out any mods (does have 5-slot mags and ansa exaust). If this were a 69 or 70 I could see the bids counting up, but a 73... maybe in the mid 20,000???

Anyone bought their old z back years later?
Not as great as the last one but still... Back on Dec/22/2005 I had found a 240Z at a little sleazy car lot in the city and had told my dad about it. We wanted a project to work on and for him to relive his Z days (bought a early 260 new had it till it rusted completely out) we went and looked at it and could not beleive what good unrestored condition it was in, we put money down on it but the battery was dead so as part of the deal the seller would put a new one in it. Here comes Christmas eve my dad gets a call on the phone from the dealer saying "someone broke into my lot and stole 3 cars... the Z was one of them", Yeah right. We got the money back and started looking for another Z, weeks later we found a late 260 and brought it back to original condition. Just back in June I was surfing the web and came across an ad on our local Z club website (Gateway Z Club) and saw an ad describing with no pics what sounded like the 240. Checked Creigslist and boom pics of the Z... It was IT! Years later the Z is MINE, the car thought to be gone for good is back, but now in my hands! And when we were first looking at the Z I had grabbed the owners manual, warranty/radio/Ac booklets which I was able to reunite with the Z. So Thats my story http://www.flickr.com/photos/42150949@N07/sets/72157622312413735/

240Z Build Sheet??? ***Pics included***
-Photobucket currently will not let me put anyting bigger than a avitar sized photo... sorry An elusive item in our Z cars is the build sheet, I dont know what I have here but It looks like one to me... I was at a local junk yard here in St. Louis and came across TWO '73 240s, one a green RUST FREE (OK not rust free but perfect doglegs none the less!) crushed at the top of a pile of cars... Then I came across the rusty shell of a 73, I had seen this Z on creigslist less than a month eariler for sale for $600, the Z was all original including paperwork from the dealer warnty book and card Radio guide and A/C install info papers. I grabbed the Splash pan off it along with other various items. When I moved the center console out of the way down fluttered the "build sheet" with various marks on it... What is it??? anybody seen this before??? http://www.flickr.com/photos/42150949@N07/?saved=1
