Well, earlier i had posted a picture of my engine all torn apart so i could clean it up a bit. Everything from the air cleaners to the Intake Manifold came off. It was running great before hand, but now that ive put it all back on its running really really fast. First time starting it up, once it had a sip of gas it went right up to 5k before i shut her off. I pulled the fast idle scew down as far as it could go and im still idleing between 3-4k rpm with the choke out in the fully forward position. I havent moved any screws on the carbs while they were out and i put the choke lines back where there were in the first place. So which scews do i use and which way do i turn them to get the revs lower? HELP! :-P Heres what we have
  3. Thanks, i thought it looked a little silly with only the balance tube and valve cover polished up. Plus ive seen some really reeeeeeally clean engines members have posted pics of here and i was getting jealous.
  4. Well, at the moment i have some floor pans on order and i have a flat tire... so the car isnt going anywhere anytime soon. So i figured it would be a good time to clean up the engine bay a bit. I just want to replace gaskets and polish everything up a bit. I had already done the balance tube as you can see in the picture, it used to look just like all the other pieces. ive redone all the rubber fuel lines, and i guess while ive got it all undone i could do the coolant lines as well. I dont think i'll have too much trouble with it, just looks a little daunting to someone who has never worked like this on a car before. But i know weve got a crack team here that could put a Z on the moon if we wanted to :-D
  5. I could hear somebody narrating my life... "He was not a mechanic, hardly mechanically inclined... It was only when he stood back that he started to comprehend what his labor of the last couple hours had amounted to. "oh !@#$," he thought to himself, "what have i done".
  6. Dont you love a good polished valve cover? Did mine a while back, but i still need to do the carbs. Is there anything you have to worry about when pulling the tops off? or do they just come off and and go right back on?

Really? Does nobody here know what a rear view mirror mount looks like?
  10. Just did mine while waiting for some parts from MSA. I think it turned out quite well. Used same method, thanks for the tips. I added some closeups too, the paint was rough and now is smooth, and the wheel has a lot nicer colour with a glossy finish.

The car that im working on at the moment i got completely disassembled by the P.O. as he could not finish the project. i have found a couple parts to the interior rear view mirror but i have no idea what is supposed to be there as i have never see a whole one before. At the moment i have the mirror with arm and a little metal c shaped thing attached with 2 screws, and plastic piece with 3 holes in it that line up with the holes in my roof liner. Can't find anything about it in my repair manual or on the net so far. How many parts am i missing and how do i attach this thing to the car?

well, after fiddling with it a couple more times i still couldnt get it off. I found that the PCV tube had a metal tube inside the case and it was getting stuck on the filter and was preventing me from spinning the cover at all. so after getting frustrated enough i took a hack saw the the little metal tube (im not going to be using anymore) and then i was able to get it off with a little more wrestling. Not the ideal way im sure, but it worked

I know this really should be really simple... I have ordered the twin K&N air cleaners with air horns from msa and id like to clean up the intake manifold and such before they get here. When i go to remove the cover for the stock air filter, the two wingnut screws come loose, but then the cover just bumps into the left strut tower before it clears the air horn type things coming from the base plate of the air box, and those get in the way of me just lifting the cover and filter off. :stupid: Is there something i have missed or special technique to getting this thing off? Im sure the answer is right in front of me, but im just too blind to see it. Thanks in advance.

I found the answer after searching the forums for a while, just in case your intrested, heres the answer... Credits to montoya_fan01.. "Seat mount bolt size is 8mm x 1.25, with an 8mm JIS nut which requires a 12mm hex wrench. Bolts are sized by diameter of threaded portion and thread pitch, then length of bolt. example: 8mm x 1.25 x 25mm The hex size is not used to identify the size of a bolt or nut." Thanks buddy!
