Fuel Pump
Ok I dont think my stock electric fuel pump is operating. I cannot hear it when I turn the key to "on" without starting the Z (73 240Z). I checked the wiring and I have power back there when the key is on, but the pump doesn't work. The manual pump works fine and the Z is running off of that. Now here's the question. Should I replace the electric pump with an after market one and remove the manual pump or run off the manual pump? I am sure there are benefits to both. I have seen the fuel pump block out plates out there but I dont know the benefits to removing the manual pump. Any Ideas?

Distributor Timing
I have it timed pretty well now so I will leave it for the time being but will probably fix it when I can use the help of my mechanic friend and his vehicle lift and will go ahead and replace the oil pump while I'm taking it off. Thanks for your fast replies.

Distributor Timing
I believe my distributor is off a gear. I adjusted my timing and had to go all the way past the adjustment hole to get it timed right. There are two timing adjustments and they are both adjusted as far advanced as they can go. I removed the distributor and found that it has a key way and cannot skip a gear. Any ideas? Is there a gear below that may be off a gear? If so, Is it a problem? the Z runs great now that I adjusted it. If its a problem, How do I fix it? Help Please. Chris

Tach Wiring.
My MSD recently died on my 73 240z so I eliminated it along with all the after market wiring. Now the Tach does not work. All of the stock wiring seems to be in place but I dont know which to connect to where (positive or negative side of the coil) to get the Tach to work. Any ideas? The Z runs great w/o the MSD by the way. Chris

Triple Mikuni Rebuild Help
Ok, You have talked me into keeping the Mikuni's... Thanks. I was leaning that way and just wanted to make sure I was on the right track... Its been a few years since I had the Z (15 or so) so I wanted to see what the best way to go was.... Thanks

Restoration... Should I go all the way?
Thanks for all the responses.... especially GarageGoon.. Some of the guys responses made me regret asking. The Z is in pretty good shape. It only minor dents, some surface rust and minor rust out spots at the front of the rear wheel wells (maybe an inch to two inches at the bottom of the well). The paint is faded with primer spots so it doesn't look like much, but its pretty solid under it all. As for the "frame off" responses, I know the car is a unibody and was just looking for advice from some guys that have done that "type" of restoration. I will post some pictures soon.

Restoration... Should I go all the way?
I recently got my first car back.... 73 240z. I am excited to have it back and am looking at getting it running and looking good. Its pretty rough right now. My question, how hard is it to do a full restoration (ie frame off type, bead blasing etc)?

Triple Mikuni Rebuild Help
Hello all, I am new to the Club. I recently got my first car back, a 73 240. The engine was built fairly well but hasn't run in the last 8 years. I recently started to try to get it running. The compression is between 165 and 182 psi. I drained the 8 year old gas out of the tank, purged the fuel lines, replaced the fuel filter and spark plugs and checked for spark. I believe the problem lies in carberation. It has the triple Makuni's on it and I am looking for the best place to get the rebuild kits. I believe I have identified mine correctly as the type 5 (5 screw) model. Additionally, I was wondering how the Holley carb compares to the tripple webber. (My Z is naturally asperated.) Another thing, I cannot hear the electric fuel pump when the key is on and if I remember correctly I should. I confirmed there is power at the pump and I am getting fuel to the carbs. I read the stock electric pump is a pile of Junk. Should I; 1. Replace it with a aftermarket electric fuel pump to aid the manual pump 2. Replace with an aftermarket electric fuel pump and eliminate the manual pump 3. Just eliminate the electric pump and run off the manual one (if it supplies enough for the tripple Mikuni's). Your advise is welcome, Thanks, Chris
