72 Datsun 240Z 74 Dodge Challenger 67 Ford Galaxie Conv. 46 Merc 1/2 ton - all the tools you will ever need!!
  3. Here where the work will go! The second photo is of a patch I did several years ago, with the car on wheels in my driveway. I'll be redoing the right way now! After looking at buying, then making a rotisserie, I'll be building and using one like this ingenious set-up:

Ahhh the wax candle trick....I've tried it several times and it just has NEVER worked for me. I think it's just the heat anyways. Works every time - by itself!! Make sure you get it red hot!

Do you have a welder? If not and you're doing resto work - save up for one! This is a case where you could weld a nut onto the stud (either of them) and then twist them out. The one that broke off low works very well with this method -not only do you get a nut head on there, the heat breaks it loose. From here on in though, soak everything the day before on acetone and ATF. Just make up this mix and put it in a spray or oil can. Also, get an A-O or propane torch and get everything HOT before trying to remove. No more broken bolts!
  7. Question posed in PM - thought I'd answer for all.... That would be Mrs. E-tek! Those are some PR out-takes we used for our sposnsors. When we met she was into F1 and street racing in a big way and wanted to learn to race professionally. She took a road-racing course and I "built" her that car (fully race-prepped 71 Z). It was sponsored by a variety of big name but mostly local sposnsors. Fun years. We sold it just a few years back to another racer, who campaigns it in central Canada. Cheers!

  9. Thanks Thor - that's a very nice comment - means a lot. (Sorry it's sometimes hard to navigate tho!)

Great looking Z.... Oddly, most comments in a thread for a while here - and most are for not having posted a photo.....
  11. Sad what you have to resort to to get these Z-guys to post a comment....still not working and you don't count!!!

I've found weed (roaches) in 50% of the old cars I've had.....

Incredible work! I always wished I had the surgeon-like skill and patience to do that in such a small scale. I certianly don't which is why I work on full-size cars!! Kudo's to you and your skills!
  14. Lots of views of my beater above, but not a one reply!! Maybe you guys needs some incentive! Here's some of Mrs. E-tek's PR shots for her racing efforts....enjoy.
  15. Hey guys, Long time lurker and Z fan. Have owned them for 30 years. Mrs. E-tek raced one in Vancouver for a while. This one we've had for 15 years and is about to get the full monty. I restore cars as a hobby and usually keep them1. Thanks for looking! Worst Parts.....
  16. Well, after all that drama, it turned out OK - and I bet it looks much better after the color sand and polish! One thing I know after after being around body shops who work on show cars and doing a few show cars myself, clear ALWAYS looks better sanded&polished. Wondering one thing though - why did you not wet the floor down?

The car looks killer! I'm just starting a 72 myslef that I bought in 1990. An original paint (silver) car that ran great when I parked it 10 years ago! Thanks for the inspirtation!

Has anyone ever used a Z chassis to build an open wheeled roadster? I've been into Z's for 30 years now and have one that is a basket case. I'm wondering if there's a way to remove the strut towers and attach short struts/shocks/mounts lower. What I'm thinking of is something like this: Anyone ever try it with a Datsun Z - even though it's a unibody type? Anyone ever remove the entire shell?
  20. Great job - they stay in buisness for a reason. If the painter is good he makes good money and lays down good paint. Simple as that!

Don't see why that skin wouldn't work. I think all the Z'ds (Except 2+2) had the same quarter profile.
