Great progress - bet she's loving all the attention!
  3. I hope so Bart - just gotta get it painted first! I ordered $1800 worth of parts from Black Dragon yesterday and I already have the paint - supplied by Dupli-color - so it's just hours hours in the shop, which I love.

Although it might not have been a fuel issue this time, I have found over the years that these cars really hate old fuel! Caught me a couple times.
  5. Actually - it's not a business - it's PURELY a hobby - albeit a serious one to me. As for buying an FSM, I have 2 Datsun service books, but not the FSM. Maybe the number is one of the books I have, but they are in the shop, not in the house, so I thought I'd ask one of the fine members on the forum. I didn't ask "Where can I find the number", so I'm not sure why you replied at all.....:disappoin The most surprising thing to me is when people like you answer a question by saying "look elsewhere". You may be unsure of how these forums work, but if you check the rules on any forum - we have been invited here to share the hobby, to help each other, to ask EACH OTHER stuff, to motivate and get motivated and to get or give valuable input. The next most surprising thing to me is people like you who COME BACK to argue the point.... Not sure what other numbers I'd need, as the number Dr Z was kind enough to provide showed me that the disc I have was indeed nearly new (Which also answers Diseazd questions). Cheers.

STRIPES for sho! I'm putting Dark Grey "BRE" stripes on my silver car.
  7. Don't you just LOVE removing that old grit and putting back in shiny new or renewed parts?
  8. Continued the tear down today.... and found some sketchy leak repairs but the cam looked pretty much perfect! Before taking the head off I made my own cam chain block to ensure I don't loose the timing - The front corner had a leak repaired - the source of which was a break in the front portion of the head gasket - With the head off, I could see that although the pistons had some carbon buildup, the cylinder walls were smooth as a baby's-y'know-what with very little ridge buildup - I measured the cylinders for wear and roundness and they came in nearly perfect, so I decided not to go at the bottom end and just do the gasket and paint rebuild. By sealing up the leaks and replacing all the wear parts, plus gasket-matching the manifolds and rebuilding the carbs, I think (Ok hope) it'll be perfect. Time for the cleaning to begin!
  9. FINALLY.....onto some fun stuff!! Valve train looks to be in good shape - The SU's where real sticky, so a rebuild will likely make a big difference - Tomorrow I'll tear down the bottom end and see if I need to pull the pistons. It ran well and had decent compression before going into storage, so if there's little carbon build up and the cylinder walls look smooth, I'll be leaving it as is and just giving it a "paint and gasket rebuild". I'll also smooth and match the manifolds.
  10. I soak my plastics for restoration in Spray Nine overnight, then scrub well, then 50-50 Bleach overnight - works VERY well. GREAT progress - tho even if I had as much time as you have while off work I wouldn't rush it - this is the payoff for all the hard work you did!
  11. Thanks? Now, THAT's helpful. Thanks!
  12. Ordering all my parts but it looks new-ish....anyone know the new or min specs on the 240z 4 spd clutch disc (not flywheel)? Thanks!
  13. Was sanding away today when I caught an edge - Talk about working your fingers to the bone! :stupid:
  14. Got 'er all primered up - Bottoms all undercoated too - This weekend is all about sanding. At this pace, it'll be painted by May!
  15. Hi guys, Wondering if anyone knows if there's a stencil to use to paint DATSUN on the side fender stripe treatment, like this: Also (I'm sure this is asked a lot), is there consensus on best supplier to buy everything needed for a resto. Mine will be painted this summer and I want to buy all the goodies needed to put it together in the fall (seal kit, bushings, hoses, interior sets, etc). THANKS!
  16. Thanks guys. Lots of sanding today. I'm using Dupli-color's High-Build Primer for contrast an a little fill while blocking it all out.
  17. Great Z Casey! I used to have a very similar set of wheels on a 240Z I had when I was 18.
  18. Found this side view before photo and thought I'd put next to Zenobi's side shot: Keeps me motivated!!

Really nice transformation. You did a great job refreshing the engine bay and I love the red VC! Those tires look STICKY! Should be fun.
  20. Painted!!! You LUCKY guy!!! There`s no better part of a build than putting the parts back on a painted shell. Its what keeps me going through each builds metal work, filler work and weeks of sanding.... The color looks great - even without the sun! I love a Z in grey or silver and there`s lots of tints available like yours with the green. I chose a Silver-blue from Mercedes for mine. Looking forward to seeing it come together.
  21. Lots of repairs where done in the front wheel wells of the 240Z, so I put another coat of Dupli-color's Undercoating on some thin spots - ...and got very close to finishing the quarters - A final sanding and they'll be ready for primer! Got the windsheild out today as well -
  22. Thanks very much - I'll be getting a LOT done on the body this week - so stay tuned!

  24. Well thank you Sir! Found one last tiny bit o' rust that needed a patch, then got some filler on 'er - it's coming along now! Can't wait to get to the FUN part!
  25. Just catching up Dan!
