  1. The metalwork is definitely one of the two hardest parts of a rebuild, but I don't loathe it like I do sanding! Once it's in paint, the job becomes a joy ride of putting together clean and/or new parts. I'm sure it's what keeps most of us going though the tough days.
  2. Finally got the quarter fitted, welded and ground. I want to take it back to show-room stock condition, so no filling of the bumper recesses! I totally got ahead of myself on this quarter and still have to strip the gas vapour tank and hoses so I can get at the back side! I'll get that done tomorrow, then it just the left quarter and the major metal work is done.
  3. Finally got a couple more hours in on my long-term Z project! When I cut the right quarter off I cut through the rear-end wiring harness. Got that all spliced together - Spent some time trimming the quarter panel getting it ready to weld in - I'm also working on a couple rods, one which will be going for paint soon. Hopefully then I'll have more time to get the metalwork completed!!
  4. It was a replacement panel and although I may have enough equipment to fab them from scratch, the replacement panels are too inexpensive to bother.
  5. Got the inner section fitted, cut and welded on today! All the details here: www.e-tekrestorations.blogspot.com At this rate the metal work will be done by January!!
  6. How about starting a build thread now? Would love to see where you're at. I'm working on mine in between several other projects, so you could catch up in no time and we'll swap build stories as we go! Follow the details of all my projects here: www.e-tekrestorations.blogspot.com !
  7. I actually got them from a member here, 240dkw (he posted above) who bought them but didn't use them. I had Googled them prior tho and they are available. Try the brand name TABCO. Good luck on your build - take photo's as it comes apart, then take your time with fitting, before welding it up and you should do OK. Oh ya - lots more pics on my blog and website.
  8. Judging by the amount of fiberglass and filler....someone tried to turn it into a Corvette.... Going back to all metal - but this time from the USA and properly prepped. Maybe it won't rust as fast.....

  10. Got started on the right quarter panel - Check out my progress on my blog: www.E-tekRestorations.blogspot.com

Beautiful work!!! I've done a lot of different restorations and the reward for all the hard pre-paint work is all the post-paint re-assembly. But enjoy your time - cause it's over before you know it!
  12. Finally got a little more done. The ubiquitous under the battery box rust.... POR15 on the underside will make sure it stays protected Some shrinking to get the curve: A little planishing to roll it out: Now I can cut out that little soft spot near the bottom corner....
  13. Thanks Dan - took a while to get to it tho! Thanks again for stopping in S'toon to get them to me!

I'd gently scuff around the sharpie with a mild (tan) 3M scuff pad, then shoot a coupe light coats of non-acetone based clear over it all.

I've used POR for years and REALLY like the stuff. Rust Bullet sent me some product but I haven't had enough time to fully develop an opinion on it yet. If you overcoat POR within 6 hours or so you should have no adhesion issues. If you wait longer - especially days or more - then you should either scuff it with 220G or use their Tie-Coat primer. I use it on the UNDERSIDES of all sand blasted frames and parts. It looks great (OEM), self-levels when brushed and is tough as fricken nails. Just make sure anynew/smooth metal or painted surfaces have been well-sanded!
  16. Not sure if this is going to be "on topic" enough, but here goes: I built this 240 in 1993 for my then girlfriend, now wife. She's always been a great driver, ready to help and a TOTALLY fun babe! Sorry for the poor photo of a photo...I have lots more - somewhere!
  17. I wanted a better transition from the old to new rail, so I made up a piece that would bridge the gap: Bought this great chisel set with removable ends last week - a real nice set that I could have used hundreds of times over the years!

WOW - nice changes! Keep it forever!
  19. Great info - should be a schtiky!
  20. I'd say that bloke got a really crappy example of a 240. I've has these panels off several and have never seen it that bad. I'd seriously question continuing with that restoration, but as is often the case, you've likely paid for it and done a bunch of work to it already, so it's hard to scrap it....but maybe he came to his senses....in June of 2011!

Great shots - WICKED vette engine swap!! Maybe put in some details about the guy who did the install - does he have any pics of the work? Does it run well and as strong as one might expect?? Really love the wheels too - i have a similar style on mine.
  22. Definitely NOT a CA car!! :classic: I'd show you the '56, but not in this forum!! If you'd like to see more of my work, check out my site at www.e-tekrestorations.com Stay tuned - I'll be doing the other floor pan - and a bunch more - this week!
  23. Am I in the wrong section? Not often you don't see a comment weeks after posting....
  24. Not much traffic on this site eh?? Today I finished up the passenger floor pieces and prepped the rail for installation. The floor fit WAY better than I expected - so I'm hopefull the rest of the metal work goes just as smoothly!!
