  1. Repairs to edges before welding in floor pan -
  2. Ok, haven't been here for a while and my 240 is still hanging on the rotisserie I built for it for it near 3 years ago!! In the meantime I've built a show-winning 56 Chev Step-side and just finished the metal work on a 67 Cougar. While I await my next paying project, I aim to get the floors done.... Lots of little spots to fix before I can even think of attaching the floor pan: But once those spots are repaired - the pan looks like it will fit nicely More to come!
  3. No no!!! Chili is still VERY MUCH with "us" - well me that is!! She just isn't racing (on the track)....she is however, driving the **** out of her Mini Cooper S on the street everyday!! Good point!! However, I've seen a few times where CarCraft or HotRod will show a Z-car.....just that it more than likely it has a 302 or SBC in it...
  4. Hey guys - CHECK OUT the lastest issue (March 2011) of CarCraft Magazine. My shop is featured in "This Guys Garage" and they captioned my 240Z build. It's front and center in the 2-page photo!:classic: Not online on CarCraft.com yet (so you'll buy the mag!), but it will be. I'll post a link then too.
  5. Sorry, didn't see your thread - plus I've been working on another resto for a while!! The shop is 25x40, about 1000sq ft....about half - no wait - 1/5th the size I need! Quick update - I purchased the floor pans, quarters and rails from 240dkw. he was nice enough to stop in Saskatoon on his way through, so we met and made the deal. With the car up on the new rotisserie I built, I'm ready to really dig in!! I've been hrearing a lot about - and sampling some - of Eastwood Company's resto products and tools. I'll likely use a lot of their stuff on this build, so stay tuned and I'll let you know how it goes!

First I was sad to see the thread title (first drive), then mad to hear you had to wait for it to COOL DOWN before getting outfor a ride!! We've had a CRAPPY summer here, cool and wet! So just as bad I guess - just opposite! Love the ride - ever thing of putting in AC? A vintage air set up would bolt in I bet. I've had a few red cars - and Z's - and the old Enamel reds are the worst for wear. Once they're oxidized they look like Sh1T and won't last long with a shine - as you found out! For sure the PO knew this and had it properly detialed for sale. Sounds like you found the right combinations as well though! Nice rides!!
  7. Nice project. Rusty?HARDLY!! It's a clean car as far as I'm concerned and I've seen and owned a few! Make sure you BAG AND TAG Every lasy piece. Take it all apart, then fix the rust, use POR15 over any surface rust, paint it, then start cleaning and re-assembling! You'll go from this: to this (minus my wife!):
  8. PM sent
  9. Where does everyone buy there parts? I've been lloking at The Z Store. Seem to have most everything I need (quarters, inners, seat covers, carpets, some engine stuff...). Thanks!
  10. D'OH!! I was just down a couple weekends ago for a wedding and would have loved it. I recall Tokiko Shocks with Eibach Springs, larger Front and Rear sway bars, poly bushings, the 5 speed, a lower geared rear end (from a 510 think?)... the exact spring rate....hmmmm... Thanks again for the pics - still looks great!

  16. I've decided on a Dual-purpose resto for this one. I want to get back into slalom, but still drive it on the street. I'll beef it up a bit, use poly bushings, shock inserts, etc. Still on the fence whether to paint it Merceded Sliver/Blue or in BRE tribute colors!
  17. Hey there!!! Ithink about the old ride often! Hope you're treating it well and she's doing the same!! Would love some race photo updates - do you have any threads?
  18. Built a rotisserie - and the 240 is it's maiden lift! I was going to go with the wooden tip-over jig discussed earlier - but my brain works overtime, as do my hands....so I found some plans and probably spent 200 X the time and the money to build this one... And WALA!!! About 60 hours later.... And now I can continue on the floors and inners. which you can see cut out here.
  19. After finishing up many other projects - (many!) - I am about to get back to my 240. First thing I'll be doing is making a rotisserie so I can make the underside repairs as purty as the topside! Although I'm going for a stock/classic bodywork, I want to upgrade the suspension and drivetrain as I go in order to slalom the car. I've done a few of these - they where done in the 80's - so I'm not 100% sure I know what the "hot" parts are today - I'm hoping you guys will help me out here. I'll be installing urethane bushings throughout (is there a preferred brand?), koni (or equivalent) struts and shocks, Larger front and rear swaybars, etc. As well, I may weld up the rear end to give me posi....anyone else ever done that? In addition to strut brace bars, is there any gussetting that can be done to strengthen the 240 subframe /unibody. Looking forward to getting at this one!!

Sweet find. Did u do the metal work yourself ? Grest job! I see floors and towers, batt tray....
  21. great thread, vid and progress! Just love the down-under right-hand (and battery?) Z. the Fairlady (mirrrors out front) look is cool too!
  22. I looked at the "medium" brand floors (one site sells basic, medium and premium floors) and they aren't much more than sheet metal with a few slight bends in them - so I'll be making my own - stay tuned!
  23. Thanks for the tip! Here's some shots of that "little" hole in the photo above. Once I pulled the sound deadener, this is what I found:
  24. Got the rest of it stripped and stored. Pulled the rubber factory sound deadener off the passenger floor and found a completely rusted out floor. Does anyone repop floors and sheet metal for the Zeds?

While I'm not on the side of over-changing fluids (coolant, tranny, diff), I'd say at least flush the gas, coolant and crank-case oil in this case. 5 years is a long time to sit. It can accumulate a ton of mositure. Later on I might do the brake fluid and tranny oil too.
