Funny you should say that, this was the reason why I pulled them off to begin with. I thought I had some blockage somewhere in one of the lines that was causing the jerkiness. I found that I had very little pedal travel and the brakes were extremely sensitive and grabby when applied. You could press fully on the pedal and the brakes would grab but never enough to lock up, if you needed to stop quickly you would just stomp down and hope for the best. I broke all the lines loose and put low pressure air through each of them with no apparent blockage. Did you have this problem with them when you were running them? What about the parking brake?

Thanks Arne, that makes more sense now. The front calipers are four piston units, I guess he was just confused between the front and rear conversions.

The PO REALLY liked silver paint and coated everything with it, calipers, engine block, etc. It makes it tough to see anything until you strip it off. If I decide to reuse these I will be cleaning them up and coating them with POR-15.

The calipers are too dirty to find anything on right now. I will be cleaning them up today and will look to see what I can find in the way of part numbers.

I just pulled these calipers off the rear of my 72 240z, the PO had said that he had accomplished the rear disc conversion with Toyota 4x4 calipers. I have searched several sites and have not found any Toyota calipers for the conversion that look like these. Is anyone familiar with this unit? The pads are not too bad now, but I will eventually need to know what these came off of to get replacements. Would this be a good time to upgrade to the 4 piston calipers or should I stick with what is working? The parking brake doesn't function correctly and I am trying to see what I can do about it, it only barely holds when the handle is pulled all the way up. I have no more adjustment left in the cable to pull tighter, but it appears as though it wouldn't matter anyway as the springs on the caliper are compressed all the way anyway. Is there an additional parking brake adjustment that can be made on the caliper? Thanks in advance

Thanks, I think that I will go pick up a new one while I'm at it, it looks like they are pretty cheap. I have two of these 50 amp alternators, one is NIB the other I just pulled off if anyone is interested.

I am finishing the alternator upgrade from MSA on my 72 240. The PO had already installed a 50 amp Hitachi unit but had made no changes to wiring. My question is do you have to switch over what I believe is an external condenser from the previous unit to the new one? The new alt did not come with this part, and I have searched to try to find anyone else with this problem with no answer. These are too expensive to burn up so I want to get it right. The pictures show the wiring before the swap and I have highlighted the part in question.

Reports from the locals here in Florida say that they are done. Sadly they didn't give any of the employees any more heads up then anyone else.

Does anyone know of a good shop in Northwest Florida? There was a shop in Fort Walton Beach that has gone out of business, and I haven't found anything else in the area. Thought one of you South Florida guys might know someone that I haven't found.
  11. That should be perfect. Any experience with the reliability and noise level of the rotary vane pumps? They are supposed to run quieter but I have seen some posts that suggest otherwise.
  12. I am considering removing the mechanical fuel pump and going to an electrical rotary vane pump from Carter. Is the removal of the pump a noticeable difference in drag on the cam? What type of plate would replace the mechanical pump? Does anyone has any experience with this mod?
  13. Thanks for the reply, I'll try to lighten to the secondary spring and see if that helps.
  14. Hello all, I recently purchased a 72 240z with the 4 barrel holley conversion on the 2400 engine. The car runs great except for a slight hesitation around 2300 rpm under load. Free revving the engine is smooth and normal and when pushed past the dead spot will run smooth through the rest of the rpm band under load. I have read that a lighter secondary spring might be the problem as the secondary is coming in too early, but wanted to see what the experts have encountered in the past. Thanks for the help!
