  1. Got the plugs out so far and put some Mystery oil in there for an overnight soak. Then plan on dropping the fluids and seeing what I have. What think about the gas tank? Likely sat with old gas for 13 years or so. Thinking dropping it and replacing the hoses, et al, but would like some advice. Definately need to get the crummy gas outta there. Radiator looks rusty on outside as does the cooler in front of it.
  2. My new z came with this black metal louver thing on the rear window. Is it original and worth saving? Lock on one side is gone. Not sure if original equipment or not. Opinions? Also that trim piece around the license... rusty. All surface. Repair or replace? And what did the original look like? Thanks!
  3. Any thoughts on where to get a new exhaust system at a reasonable price?
  4. I am getting lots of advice on the engine, how to make sure it's not seized. Of course, with no battery in it, people are suggesting a couple of squirts of wd-40 in each spark plug hole, some regular oil...some Marvel Mystery Oil (?) and everything else under the sun. Obviously I want to crank it manually to get some motion in there I think....what do you suggest? THe exhaust looks shot from front to back...any good sources for this? Like to keep it close to stock unless you experts think otherwise. Not finding a lot of rust...some but not a lot. I will take some pics and ask for help. Interior looks ok...dash is totally shot. I have another thread going on how to refurb. Thanks for the comments!

  7. Dirty...some surface rust. Needs paint job. A couple of rust spots is all I have found so far. I will photograph and ask for advice from ya'll.
  8. What do you think? I have the air cleaner cover off. Looks complete except A/C quit 15 years ago.
  9. Wow. You read stories about finding the Porsche in the barn, right? Today I bought a 240Z from *California* that has been in storage since 1987. Best of all, bought it from a friend who bought it new. Last plated in 87, this 71 240z still has the 87 California tags on it. Last turned over two years ago. Towed it to my place today and gave it a quick bath. I will be seeking all of your wise counsel as I embark on bringing this one back from the dead. This is 100 percent original (window sticker in the glovebox!) and I am going to need a lot of help from you. Ordered the CD today and have Ward Humble's book on my lap. What would you do first? The exhaust is rotten. The tires are rotten but inflated. I need to be careful I don't just rip into this. But I could use your help! Attached is the beauty after her first bath in 11 years. Thanks!!!!

Hi folks... Dedicate British car enthusiast with chance to buy first 240z. 71, all original, parked for last 10 years indoors. Some surface rust, nothing else major noted on cursory inspection. Bought Ward Humble's book today and am most of the way thru it. Nothing I have not encountered on my Spitfire (why do the English drink warm beer? Because they have Lucas refrigerators!) I think I can get the car for about $600 from the original owner... 90K miles. What do you'll think? Thanks!
