Well! There's good news! The chap I bought the car from has just told me that he's been turning the engine over once a week for the last twenty years! It turns over with no problems or sounds now but doesn't start. I figured with it turning over that's 80% done on getting the engine running . Fear not, nothing will be rushed and all will be done correctly so not to cause any damage. I'm picking the car up tuesday week, I borrowed a trailer from my OC ( officer commanding, I'm in the army) so a small trip out to look forward to!

where is the best place to get spark plugs from? Are they different to normal ones that i can get in my local halfords?

Will do! I'm picking her up on tuesday the 25th so expect to see some pictures of her first jouney in 23 years( all be it on the back of a trailer! haha) Can't wait to see what state she's actually in, when i looked at it in situe, all the wheels were flat so couldn't see any of the underside at all! Hopefully there won't be any horrendous surprises! Thanks to you all for your interest and comments, it's really great. Matt

How do i make sure that the colour is like the original when i respray it at the end of the resto? I agree, the green is nice and i don't think i've ever seen one before. Is it a common enough colour?

Alan, Thankyou very much, your offer of advice is very generous! I'm sure I'll get it home and burst into tears or something but I reckon I'm up to the challenge, I have a dedicated and loyal friend base too!! ! Five&dime, It is an exceptionally small world!! Imagine the chances of finding my project twice in as many days! haha. Matt

Hello all, You remember me, I'm the guy who was about to buy a lovely 240Z and then they sold it to someone else! Threaders!! Anyway, I made this find and am bringing her home next week. She's been sitting there with many rats for company for the last 23 years so I'm going to need some direction and tips ( hopefully someone selling spares too ) from anyone who has the time. Hi all, I'm looking for a Datsun 240Z for around £6000. I recently was very let down by a garage that sold the one i was going to buy! So, now i have around £6K sitting in the bank and i'm really struggling to find such a good bargain again! I'd really appretiate some help. Matt

I'm really sorry guys, the bit i meant is the colour coded bit below the grill, i think that you would call it the front valance or apron, or something along those lines. I've (very crudely) shown on a picture of MY datsun the bit that i'm talking about. You have all been very helpful and i apologise for not properly naming what i was actually after. P.S. That is a VERY COOL looking scarab. especially in white!

hi, i'm matt and i've just joined the club. I joined because i'm about to buy a 1973 datsun 240Z. I'm a 25 yr old squaddie with a keen interest in classics and have always wanted a 240Z. It's a lot of money for me so any advice i can get on this purchase i'd be grateful for. The body work seems sound, no blistering paintwork, no rust in door jams or around the boot lid, can't see any in the engine bay, inside is nice too with the seats and upholstery in good condition. The car has done 76,000miles. MY MAIN CONCERN is the chassis, i can't inspect that, are there any tell tale signs? Thankn you very much for your time. matt
